If we take away the music and just look at the visuals, this new opening might actually be the best.
-All Might receiving One for All from his predecessor. -Deku and All Might siting in the bench, which is a call back to the cover from a really important manga chapter. -Both the line ups for the Pro Heroes and the villains. -Tomura kneeling in front of the screen and the hand reaching out to him. -Class A charging forward. -And of course, pretty much everything shown after Deku and All Might go Super Saiyan. Sadly, while the song itself has its moments, the music doesn't have a good flow, specially compared to the opening that preceded it, and it ends up hindering the finish product as a whole. Still, the opening is not really that horrible and might grow on me with further viewing. I didn't thought much of Sora ni Uteba at first, but it soon became my favorite opening, and, at the very least, it still leagues better than Boruto's new op IMO. As for the ending. I liked it. I'm a big fan of watching shonen anime characters in more casual settings. However, Heroes is still the best ED and Datte Atashi no Hero still comes in second, but I do think this one just barely edges out Dakara, Hitori ja nai. |

I've actually enjoyed trying to recombine the OP's visuals with other songs, and there's a couple pairings that are legit improvements. One of the best ones may be with Inuyashiki's "My Hero":

Have to agree with most folks that the visuals for the new OP are great, but the music for it felt... less so. Not that it's a bad song, but it didn't feel right for the content of the OP.
I'll give it time. Not much else to say about the episode itself. Mostly recap with some filler. ...Iida is frikken ripped, man, geeze.

I almost skipped the ep because people said it was mostly recap, and while there was indeed some recap, it was nicely integrated into the narrative of the ep and there was actually more new content. I actually really got into it, and was disappointed Eraserhead cockblocked us in the end.

Yeah, there was a fair amount of original content. Too bad all of the original content was entirely meaningless filler. Of course Eraser Head was going to stop them. Letting them have that contest would have broken the sacred rule of never reaching a resolution during a filler scene.
God this episode was bad. I won't hold it against the series as a whole, but it was bad. Not only did nothing meaningful happen, all the characters were reduced to caricatures of themselves, if they had any character at all. Like, none of the characters were particularly deep to begin with, but this was just flat. Everything just screams "Hey, this is what happened before. Hey here are these characters. Hey this is what these characters are like. Also this is how these characters act. Some of these characters have particular traits. Have we mentioned these characters tend to act in particular manners yet?" Hopefully next week we can get back to our regularly scheduled plot where characters act like they normally do, rather than acting more like themselves than usual. Well, considering BNHA 3 aired this month, and a certain superhero movie is going to air later this month, this probably isn't surprising, but still....

While its true that quirks have more in common with Mutant powers the themes of the two are different. X-men places a HEAVY focus on their super powers being a source of fear and hatred; the mutants basically can serve as a sort of stand in for any oppressed minority group. Avengers on the the hand focuses more on heroism and how the world reacts and deals with the existence of heroes and villains. Between the two i feel like the themes of MHA are more in line with what the avengers go through... In a sense MHA feels more like the world of the avengers, but only where heroes are more numerous, numbering in the hundreds, instead of a few dozen. You could even say that schools like U.A. are natural extensions of the regulations that began in civil war Heck I feel like the idea that the world has an 80% rate for super powers doesn't actually have that much of impact on the series since we spend so much time with just the heroes and villains; we spend little time with regular super powered people. Normal folks having powers feels more apparent in the vigilante spin off Though i do think MHA might be something you might get if Mutants actually WON their civil rights and actually became a normal part of society... but that never seems to happen to the x-men; Marvel always seems to work to keep them oppressed

I honestly like some of the connections they made between the top heroes in the MCU and the top characters in BnHA.
Izuku & Captain America: Both came from very small beginnings and were both told over and over they wouldn't amount to much and yet still both kept trying anyway. They were both given an unorthodox way to become a super strong hero and both have a very strong sense of justice and camaraderie. Also, neither is willing to leave a man behind and will put themselves in danger if it means saving someone else, especially a friend. Bakago & Iron Man: Not as many similarities here, but other than the fact that both can make things explode using the palms of their hands , both started off as entitled brats who thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. Both had a harsh experience that changed their outlook but not necessarily their attitude. Both are very smart, but that sometimes doesn't always work in their favor. Both also happen to be rivals with their matched counterparts in Izuku and Cap. Black Widow & Ochaco: Umm? Well, both are female, have reddish-auburn hair, and care about their teammates and friends. And Black Widow is great friends with Cap (and in the comics and alternate stuff, sometimes a love interest), just as Ochaco is great friends with Izuku (and also a potential love interest). Todoroki & Thor: Well, both come from privileged families, and both have a lot of family issues. And both of them have elemental like powers. Todoroki can also act prince-like at times, and like Thor, despite not being the first born, he is his father's chosen heir. Iida & Dr. Strange: Um, not really seeing a whole lot of similarities here other than both of them come from privileged backgrounds. Also, both of them did some really stupid things that caused them to get a debilitating injury and changed their outlooks on things. All Might & Hulk: Well other than the obvious of both of them having two completely different forms and both of them being the strongest there is, there's not really that much else of a connection. All Might, like Izuku, is a lot more like Captain America with a mix of Superman. But I guess with Superman a DC and not Marvel character and Cap already taken, Hulk was the next best thing. A pretty good campaign collab overall.
