Binchou-tan
びんちょうタン
A slice of life moe~ anime. A 4-panel manga started recently serializing in the seinen(young men's) manga magazine Comic Blade. It was mentioned on MoonPhase (which I already posted about it) that this is an anime for tired men. Genre: Seinen |

I saw the psuedo-first episode on animate.tv. From the look of it, it does sort of seem like an anime for tired men. All she does is get up in the morning, ride a duck, and visit a field with flowers. Wait, did I just say ride a duck!? Yes, I did. She also has this inexplicable log tied on to her head for some reason.
I guess this is just a chill out kinda anime. Edit for my full first impressions+OP. Last edited by froinlaven; 2006-02-03 at 04:42. |

Yeah, it is.
As for "Binchou-tan", it's pun. Her name is Binchou-tan (which is a very cutsey, almost-loli way of addressing a little girl), but binchoutan means "charcoal" which is what she is wearing on her head. 8) Yonkoma-inspired anime are always quiet mindless fun. A "chill out anime" is a perfect description. 8) |

I thought the first episode of this was excellent. This was extremely well done (if you can look past the whole "-tan" girl thing). Sort of Anime meets old school Disney/Miyazaki. The music was very pleasant and the animation was great. I loved the atmosphere. For a 12 minute piece, it was well paced. Simple story well told mostly through visuals.
The 3D work in the beginning was a bit dodgy, but overall, I give Episode 1 an A-. /edit: Bah...excuse my poor, repetitive writing style. I'm running late for a dinner date. |

Well, if it's in a similar slow-paced style to Aria I might check it out

I just checked out the first episode. Pretty cool since the Japanese is basic so I didn't need any subs! Plus there's barely any talking anyway. Actually, I already saw this episode a while ago because it was online since December. Anyway, I still think this is a good chill-out anime.

Now I'm waiting for BS-i version to be available... Likely higher quality, wide screen... all the good stuff to go with the good series. |

Well I was wondering how long it'd take for this.
I'm sure there are plenty of fansubbers that wouldn't mind the fact that theres only 5 lines of dialogue in the show . Plus, high-res raws (1024) are available too. Although I don't know if they used them...

That was one hell of a perfect first episode, and i'll agree the 3D-ness at the start wasen't much needed.. but was still nice to have.
Does anyone know how many episode's this anime's going to be.. i'm thinking maybe 13? ^^;

I'm gonna need to start off my post by saying I really enjoyed the show and that I have seen and enjoyed other slice-of-life-type anime. Why do I start my post like this? Because otherwise it'd just seem like I was trolling.
So while watching it I had a horrible nagging feeling. A desire for bombs to drop, ancient demon gods to awaken, etc. It comes with the terratory for me, I guess. So anyhow, I'm going to enjoy supressing those wishes by saying Binchou is one of the survivors from a mascot uprising which wiped out humanity And yeah, the 3D bit at the start was unnecessary and actually kinda crappy IMO. Other series have done far better with 3D. |

Weird, weird, weird show. Why is she soaking the coal? Why does she boil it with rice and put it on her head? I don't get it. And then it ends. Uh.
Anywho, "seinen" also means "mature", so "seinen comics" (成年コミック) can refer to porn manga. Just, er, so you know. Let's be careful, mmkay.

Binchou-tan's name is a play on words, that is, a pun. Binchoutan is a type of charcoal, that is commonly used in beauty commodities, but is also used sometimes to give more flavor to rice, you actually see Binchou-tan do that in episode 1. The coal she has on her head is Binchoutan, in case you were wondering. |
