Well in the fanfic tankery is the west is co gendered because tank warfare in the west is more widespread than in the east. They didn't care about the gender because they needed the manpower.
That guy who is saying that piece to Erika and Maho ? His great great grandfather was one of the first tankers of WWI. His great grandfather was a tanker in WWII. His grandfather was a tanker in the Vietnam War and his father is a tanker that recently fought in a recent military intervention in a civil war in a nation in the Middle East where he lost his right leg and was awarded the Canadian Victoria Cross. |

Odd since it will be "Current Series" again in less than a month.
As for the fiction, we still need to see the remaining two episodes before we can be sure what is going on between Miho and Maho, and why Erika has such a large axe to grind with Miho.

Girls und Panzers did fairly well on release of volume 2. At least for the Blu-ray release. DVD sales were sort of low. Combined I think it comes in overall at fourth place behind Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, and Kuroko no Basket.

The main problem with this is we've actually SHOWN a relatively recent match -- mainly the international competion that Maho participated in, which actually involved a German team -- and again nothing points to there being any male participation. If there are guys, they're in the bureaucracy of the Federation rather than being actual tankers.
And even if there were any male tankers, there's likely a strict delineation between "combat" tank driving and "sport", which Senshado technically is (apart from being a martial art). Hmm... Speaking of fanfiction ideas, it would be interesting to find out whether or not Miho or Maho have any aunts. Shiho being a coldhearted jerk is a given, but the interpretation to her place in her own family (as the eldest or second daughter) puts a different slant to her jerkassery.

Anyway the story idea I had is introducing a co gendered international academy ( but still primarily a Japanese Academy ) Ocean's Blue (academy warship). It had transfer students from various nations. It recently introduced Tankery because they wanted to offer more extra curriculum activities for it's students. The Tankery in this academy is unique because it allows both males and females in it. Somethings thats frowned upon by the other academies especially the fanatical Black Forrest Peak College. The main character is male teenager named Christopher 'Chris' Evans. His real family name is actually Richardson. The Richardson family has a long history with tanks. Chris's great-great- grandfather was one of the first tankers in WW1 ( he survived the war and moved to Canada ), his great grandfather was a tanker in WWII ( commanded Sherman tanks in Italy and then in Normandy in a Sherman Firefly ), his grandfather fought in the Vietnam War as a tanker and his father fought in a recent war in the middle east as a tanker where he was awarded the Canadian Victoria Cross for his valor and bravery ( he also lost his right leg ). Usually when your family has such a long history with tankery thats something to be proud of. But Chris doesn't see it that way, it's not that he hates tankery and thinks that it's for girls, he loves tanks and is into tankery. It's just that ever since he was born when other people ( other than family ) look at him instead of seeing "him" they see him as the son of a renowned military family and his family's legacy and think that since he's a direct descendant of such a well known tankery family he would some day do something that would live up to his family's honor. He doesn't want that. He is his own person, he wants to be judged by his own actions and accomplishments. He wants stand out on his own. And not within his family's shadow. So he had a talk with his father, changed his family name to his mother's ( she passed away when he was in elementary school, cancer ) and transferred to the international school. When he joined the Tankery course some of the females kept giving him and the few other males the odd look. Some of them considered allowing males into Tankery to be sacrilege. But not all of them were like that, some ( including the instructor who is from the US Army ) welcomed them warmly. They had 5 tanks. 1 Comet A34, 1 BT-7M, 1 StuG IV, 1 Sherman Firefly and 1 Canadian Grizzly I. The Instructor had a practice competition ( last tank standing wins ) to see what the newbies were made of. The free for all match was in a tight urban city environment. Chris commanded the Comet. And after learning to work together with the crew they defeated the other tanks and won. He earned the boys and girls respect. What do you think so far ? |

Consider it Spam with eggs, sausage, bacon, and spam....wait....
I wonder if that bit was originally written for the OVA or if it was the actresses adlib based on what they were talking about in the first place, followed by a rewrite to add it in.

Sometime, I really wonder if Usagi-san team members really just 1 year younger than Miho and friends? Their personality are like elementary school students.
At least, Azusa and Ayumi (who look most mature in their group) should act more mature. Don't get me wrong, I like how they are like now but I just wondering.
