Finally read the chapter, I can see why Hayama won, even Soma in some way seems to accept it(though i dont know how is kurokiba doing), and its wasnt an asspull in any way, seems like a very solid reason to choose the winner, now I do want to read next chap asap

I don't think he will complain much about the administrative responsibilities because it's part of growing up and becoming professional. Jourichou also doesn't seem like the type who will do administrative stuffs since he is portrayed as laid back and nonchalant but he was still able to manage all of those stuffs which comes with the seats position.
I can see him rejecting an offer to take a seat though, unless taking a seat is the requirement to challenge any of the members. It's not as though it's mandatory if the principal asks you to take a seat.Asking Soma to examine all the past documents, schedule the budget and plan for events is probably his worst nightmare.

Well, glad you felt that way.

Time for the rest to follow suit.

Even though it was kind of disappointing, I think it's a good way to set up Souma for some more growth as a chef to overtake some more people. It's like when he almost failed at the egg dish challenge, a loss only means an opportunity to learn more. In this case, he learned how important a personal identity as a chef means, which means this won't happen again in the future.

Well I gotta admit I raged for a second. I would have preferred to see Kurokiba win then.

Wouldn't be so bad if the tournament arc didn't drag on for 60 chapters. Having him lose here just means we're going to wait even longer for him to challenge the Elite 10. That's what most people are angry about. Also, a lot of people dislike Hayama, so having Hayama win means we're going to see more of him in the future.

At least all of this personal growth and flashback of their lifes will make it easier in the future when they show up in later arcs. Those flashbacks wont be as neccesary as now beecause we didnt have any info of them to justify some scenes in this arc.

to be honest, i actually kind of expected soma to lose, mainly because this is a shounen manga, where battles are fought, through food rather than fists. In my experience with these kind of mangas, the mc is always required to lose at least once, no matter how strong they are.

Yes that is a general rule, but it's oddly upsetting because of how Souma goes about and says stuff like how he'll use everyone as his stepping stone and similar things; despite the manga showing on occasiond that Souma isn't extremely talented, he just learns a lot from his failures and lacks the inhibition to do so.

That's what shounen characters say most of the time and then gets smashed once or twice.

The way I see it just because he said he would use everyone as a stepping stone does not mean he is going to win all the time. Losing is also used as a stepping stone to get better. So far I think all he really has been doing copying his dad and that way he would never be able to surpass him.

Well, there you have it. With the scanlation out, the reasonings behind the judges' decision are made clear.

Akira found his specialty while the others didn't. Which isn't to say that Souma lost because of any lack of talent or genius; the dishes were praised equally. Specialties have nothing to do with that as anyone can specialize.

That is fine. The stepping stone must be strong or else the one stepping will fall.

It is nice to see that they were many people in other forums/manga reader sites disappointed with the result of this chapter.

The common complaints were because Hayama was not a very likable character, and unable to defeat the same guy in the same arc really leave a lot of bad taste to many, including me.

Also, for me, speciality is just overrated. Variety is what made the person amazing in the real life.

Instead of using the speciality as an excuse to fault Soma, I would rather the judges simply announced that Hayama's dish is more delicious than others. Never like the statement such as "All of you guys are talented, but person A is the winner due to whatever reasons". To me, it is nothing but an empty encouragement to make you (the losers) feel better.

Well I predicted he'll lose anyway; its a shounen manga afterall and Soma's cooking is shallow. He hasnt found the person important to him yet(or has he; he just doesnt know yet) that can elevate his cooking to a new height. His father already said it in ch. 1 afterall. I just hope he finds that reason soon tho.

They say the best spice is "AiXLove" afterall.

I really dont like where author is going with that since i know he is a previous H artist , Akira will probably be sacrifice to an elite and he will loose really horribly ( he might even loose jun etc...) . When you think about it Souma really didnt had much motivation to win this battle in the first place( Shounen characters tend to loose when there isnt anything at stake ) , when an elite 10 destroy Akira( plus Jun) Yukihira will probably be the one to save them . Anyway this is too predictable .
