I need a gif of Hozuki eating cotton candy though.

So much brilliance in that ep - and the series. I especially loved the whole Inagawa Junji mask joke. His narrations are one of the truly wonderful parts of the series.

In what is surely one of the strangest, unlikeliest and most heartwarming stories in my time as an anime fan, Hoozuki no Reitetsu did indeed meet and exceed Stalker estimates and is now the #1 selling series of the Winter season. V.1 sold 15441 combined, and V.2 (simultaneously released due to the delay in V.1) sold 11754 without an event ticket. And both will add substantially on Thursday.

Unbelievable. Inconceivable! A second season is a mere formality now.

Great to see the show's done really well on sales, it's the kind of engagingly quirky show we need more of!

The sale numbers are insane, any particular reason why it hit such a chord with the Japanese audience?

Also more importantly are there enough chapters for a second season?

Because the Japanese audience understood the jokes?

While that's most likely true, judging by the fanart on Pixiv, I think the female audience fell hard for Hoozuki and Bai Ze (especially together), which might explain why the DVD sales are on par with the BD sales.

The guys probably took a liking to the girls. Peach Maki in particular seems very popular.

Also, I think the art and animation looks fantastic, so that may have helped as well.

13 episodes of anime, 13 volumes of manga and counting. I can't imagine there's not enough for a second season.

Since each episode contained 2 stories, I'd count the show as functionally having 26 stories. A relevant side question would be how many stories are there per volume on average? (There's probably plenty more stories left though.)

Roughly 6 chapters plus omake per volume, so there should be about 80 chapters out there total. Certainly far more than the minimum for another cour.

Yay for enough material! Now all we need is an announcement. Unfortunately, that may take a while until the production team can work it into its schedule.

I've just watched the two OVAs. A bit more on those goldfishflowers, some background on the cat journalist, a kitsune host club... I didn't realise how much I missed this show. Season 2, when?

Damn, this show delivers - third OVA was the best of the lot. How in the world is there no sequel of this show yet?
