Just a question because I plan to watch this soon.
Do I need to watch the Arrow, Flash, etc to understand this series better or can I watch it as a standalone? I've watched some episodes of both series before though but haven't kept up with them this year.

It's not like you can't watch it alone, but Flash /Arow establish all characters of Legends (bar Rip Hunter), provide backstories and overall settings.
Plus if Legends will follow same pattern as other two, you can expect two (maybe three now) crossover episode arc where each of episide will be in different show. So I would at least recommend watch Arow/Flash first.

Yeah, this week's episode was heavily Arrow-focused...although I don't get why Leonard didn't want to stick around with Mick - they're both criminals in the best possible world for them. Even if the rest of the team goes back and changes the future, that possibility cannot be erased, since time is not linear (don't they teach them anything at Time Master Academy?) so what's with the whole "we gotta save the world" thing, I don't get it.

That's the line between him Mick. Mick doesn't care about much of anything except enjoying himself. There is no one he wants the world to be saved for. I'm sure Snark figures that once Savage is dealt with he can get back to his regular life of crime. He doesn't need a world as chaotic as the one they landed in.

How the heck did Stein take out a trained pirate by himself? Even if he did get the jump on him, it shouldn't have been that simple.
Under normal circumstances Sara should have been wiping the floor with Mick, but she was at a disadvantage here, so I can accept her losing. Despite what the show wants us to believe, I highly doubt that Snart actually killed Mick. http://imgur.com/a/dHjg6
