Kinzo is grabbing Krauss by the neck, surprisingly strong. Of course, Kinzo is ridiculing Krauss who is quite miserable, relying on Natsuhi as well for such kind of request.
In the end, Kinzo throws away Krauss and as usual, states that he doesn't care of his fortune or whatever as long as he can meet Beatrice. He still says he has his promise to give everything back, but the name of Ushiromiya isn't part of it, hence he wonders who would be the most suitable to succeed this name.
In a whim, Kinzo decides to grant Krauss' request and will show himself before the siblings.
A little while later, Maria and Rosa come back from the rose garden (the usual rose incident). They have good times with the other cousins and the scene is suddenly interrupted by the meta world, Gretel dropping loudly her cup of tea.
Then, the scene switch with Ange and "Meta Maria". Ange uses Maria's diary and still think Maria is not objective in claiming that she is happy.
Everything switch to the "current past Maria"
Rosa calls Maria that she is too busy with work and she won't be able to come back home until midnight of the day after tomorrow. Maria wonders what they will do about the movie they planned to watch together this sunday, but Rosa forgot and let a surprised tone. Without much question, Maria apologizes in order not to embarass her mom. Then Rosa let the house under Maria's care, asking her to take a bath everyday, buying food at different shop each time and to avoid any policeman.
After the call, Maria is a bit lonely but quickly got a better mood, as she is having fun with Sakutarou.
Upon observing these memories, Ange still question Maria's happiness as Rosa obviously forgot about their promise. But Maria is calm and says that it is irrelevant, because whether Rosa remembers of their promise or not, she wouldn't be able to attend it with her because of her job.
And even so, Maria is happy because she could have a pajama party with Sakutarou instead. Ange is very frustrated and in verge of crying, thinking that "Maria onee-chan is longing/starving for Rosa oba-san's love", converting her sadness into random activities and such. Ange is unable to understand how Maria can claim she is happy despite her current situation.
Maria believes that Ange is pitiful/poor child, though Ange still cannot understand. Then Maria points out that her night was happy as described by the diary, so it is the case. Ange then remembers of her discussion with Bernkastel, where a truth can be different depending of the "observer".
Then, Maria claims it is her power, the power that allow one to be happy which Ange doesn't have. Ange would like to know the details, but Maria herself doesn't know exactly about this power and before long, as able to know its use.
And then, when Rosa came back, Maria is completely hyper which surprises Rosa a lot, thinking someone visited her something. As promised, Rosa brought some souvenirs. One is a box of cakes, but the other interests more maria: it is a set of ceramic animals with holding different instruments.
Both Maria and Sakutarou are excited to have the number of their friends increasing like this.
Maria then thinks Rosa must be tired, so she would like to prepare her bath and choosing the oil, but Rosa declines as she is rather tired so she will take a shower instead and go to sleep. Maria is still very cheerful and takes her coat, but drops something from it by accident. Maria then picks it up and notices it is a shinkansen ticket to the destination of a famous onsen resort. As soon as she picks it up, Rosa sharply hits her and the atmosphere becomes dead cold.
Maria is clueless why Rosa is angry, but she realizes that she might have touched something precious to her mom without any permission so she feels guilty and apologizes. Rosa doesn't say anything and leaves the living room.
Maria is quite sad and is convinced it is her fault, though Sakutarou states that she wasn't a bad girl at all. Both believe this is only because she is tired and they have a happy evening together already.
Ange has enough, and Maria still doesn't understand her point. Ange can't stand this "happiness", stating it is quite miserable. Maria admits she doesn't know why Rosa was angry, but so doesn't Ange, so giving a judgment to someone without knowing their own feeling isn't any good, so she believes Ange isn't an adult yet.
Ange is astonished that Maria, being 9 years old can say that, especially after picking up the ticket. Maria doesn't see the point and Ange states that this ticket is quite strange despite Rosa claimed she had to stay at her company the whole time. She perfectly knows that Rosa was in fact travelling, leaving Maria alone at home. Maria still is unconvinced, thinking it isn't an evidence, stating it might be an old business trip ticket that she left in her coat by chance. Thus, Maria believes it is just Ange's imagination and delusion and still doesn't understand why Ange tries to make Maria and Rosa's relationship "worse than it is actually".
Maria then tells Ange that she can find happiness in this world if she find the fragment, which this world has a lot of them.
Back to the "present", Rosa is in her room but notices an enveloppe which was made by Maria, with "To mama. I wish to share happiness with you". Unsure, she reads the content.
A little while later, Maria is in the bathroom, but Rosa suddenly barges in and buries her head in Maria's back, crying and apologizing.
The meta maria sees this as normal and both parent and daughter could get a reconciliation. Ange just believe Maria's happiness is just too painful. Maria still believe that Ange doesn't have the power of happiness and she must find hers. Ange is skeptical and wonders what is this "power". Maria says she can teach him about it since Ange is able to read the diary, but then as Ange wonders who tought Maria about that power it was... Beatrice, who appears as well.
Maria and Beatrice are then transported into Beatrice Garden, where the latter learns about Maria's best friend, Sakutarou. Beatrice is surprised that Maria managed to put a soul in a stuffed animal, but Maria doesn't see it as a non living object.
Beatrice is still saying that considering how a stuffed animal is, it wouldn't be the perfect vessel for such "summoning". Hence, she believes that Maria got quite a real power, in truth, this is "Magic". Maria is surprised because she is still an apprentice, so she cannot practice Magic. Still, Beatrice confirms it is Magic, praising Maria for her feat that even Beatrice herself would have hard time with (due to the anti magic human environment).
Then, Beatrice tells Maria they can materialized Sakutarou beyond the stuffed animal, but they would need a better image of him. Then Beatrice calls out her teacher, Virgilia.
The silver haired witch appears and everyone is having a happy tea party with Sakutarou.
Then, the trio is about to acknowledge the existence of Sakutarou as a friend of "Mariage Solciel" (this is the name of the Alliance of the Witches, roughtly meaning in french "GroundSky Marriage").
As result, Sakutarou now has a humanoid form (it looks like mini Satoshi cosplaying some... weird animal
)
Maria is excited and thanks Beatrice for this present, though Beatrice believes it is normal for the birth of the "original witch", as Maria managed to use the "original magic", the power to create.
And then, Maria receives her witch dress (even if she has the same wand than Eva-Beatrice, she is NOT an endless witch apprentice/successor)
Meta Maria shows up her new dress to Ange, clamoring she is happy, though Ange remains silent about that. Still, Ange thought she couldn't get happiness. Then, Maria would like to teach her the original magic for Happiness, and then affiliate her name to Mariage Solciel.
_____________
Back in 1998, Ange is investigating this time Kinzo's book collection, through a professor of a university, specialist in tale and folklore of the west. This person however has another occupation though: occult, alchemy, demonology and the like.
In april 1987, since the disappearance of Kinzo was still not confirmed, Eva was forced to sell many properties of her family in order to keep her financial situation. Therefore, she sold at some auction, Kinzo's book collection. Then, the man explains the "legend" of rokkenjima, especially that message bottle that fisherman found years ago (it was mentioned in episode 1 ending scroll).
People thought it might be the fisherman invention, and they noticed that the handwriting of the letter wasn't Maria's, hence increasing the chance this letter was a fake. However, there was ANOTHER message bottle that was left around the island and that the police retrieved. And this letter had the same handwriting, which confirm the authenticity of the one found by the fisherman.
Both letters were huge, like a diary describing the ceremony of the witch. But the mystery got even more intriguing as the contect of the letters were different. Both letters recorded everything that happened during the incident, however only the start (18 people confined on Rokkenjima because of the typhoon) and the end (all of them died, the witch has been revived and everything has been engulfed in the Golden Land) were matching. No one knows whichever is the correct one or if both are fake. Which is yet another case of the "shrödinger's cat".
In her thoughts, Ange wonders why there was such letter, especially that it might not be written by Maria. Also, nothing guaranted that the bottles could be found. Furthermore, the existence of 2 letters make the whole point dubious as well.
Still, the messages bottles proved that Eva wasn't the culprit and the later probably went mad to let Eva alive or something.
Seeing after how much this man could talk eagerly about all this occult matter, Ange is fine with the information she got and thanks him. Before leaving, she first asks if he has a occult hobby or something, and he admits he wants to fulfill his childhood dream, perhaps becoming a witch/black magic practionner.
Then, Ange asks if he could see the message bottle, and he did, to the point he can remember of the handwriting. Ange then shows him Maria's diary, especially a page were many formula with "beatrice" in katakana were written. The reaction is very fast: the man became pale and wonders where Ange found this book.
Without asking further, Ange concluded his reaction is enough to determine that the message bottle were written by Beatrice. Ange then leaves with the diary and gives the remuneration to the professor. In panic, the later doesn't want it and begs Ange to tell him where she found this book and what was it.
Ange states that they are interesting in the outside of the cat box, while she is in the inside. She doesn't pay heed to his request, and use another battler-ish greetings (gubbai, jentorumen. Haba naisu dei
).
The professor tries to call her out, but Ange actually introduced herself as Sumadera
Speaking of which, Sumadera heard from her henchmen that Ange used her name to contact a professor.
