One more category: cooking. Rinslet has the standard of a professional chef despite being an ojou. Funny enough, it was her maid who was horrible as a chef, and their relationship subverts. It was Rinslet who cooks and looks after her maid because she's clumsy. Ellis is a fine cook herself, although her dishes are less fancy and elaborate than Rinslet's-- much family-oriented. Est never cooked. As for Claire and Fianna, they are both lethal chefs. Funny enough, in volume two, there was this cooking competition between Fianna and Claire. Claire's food looked like charcoal, whilst Fianna's looked delicious. Est and Kamito instantly declared Fianna the winner base upon appearance. Disgrunted, Claire had a taste of Fianna's food and she almost died. What's even more hilarious was the fact that before the competition, Fianna mentioned that she used to cook for spirits as a miko and sends them home happy--'happily asleep' as she latter added.

BTW, about Claire being the prettiest, wasn't Kamito most physically attracted by Ellis though? Throughout the six novels, he was consistently, verbally and mentally, commenting about how beautiful he thought Ellis was.

I'd say it was both. He was truly amazed when she first fought him. He was pretty much dazzled when he saw her performing her blade dance under the moon. And in volume six, he specifically mentioned "that awe-inspiring face of hers , it was exceptionally beautiful." I don't think he has directly verbally praised any other girl apart from Ellis.

In summary, Ellis has the best looks(might be disputable), best figure, much mature from the rest and is also a competent cook.That blue ponytail....THAT's it,she's MINE, hands off her, Kamito!

Yeah it's just that in volume 5 everyone was fascinated by Claire in a dress including the girls. I probably took it the wrong way then.

But that makes Ellis.....
Have the best body and proportion.
Have the best or second best face.
Have the second best cooking skills.......

I have re-read the ball scene. So Kamito thinks that all the girls were stunningly beautiful in gowns, but Claire was the center of attention at the ballroom after being dressed. As for Ellis, she was the one praised the most when the girls did not dress up elaborately ,I believe. He was so impressed by her beauty and the elegance of her sword dances that he flat out told her a number of times that he thinks she's beautiful. By the way, as I've mentioned earlier, the official popularity poll goes in the following order:

By the way, folks, I am currently also reading an earlier novel by the same author as STnBD. I can't tell you the title in English, but seeing that some of you might be interested, I will tell you what it's about. It's set in the late sixteenth century Europe during the wars between Louis XIV and his opponents, the Dutch, the British, the Spanish and the Austrians. Vauban, along with the Man in the Iron Mask are the antagonists of this series. The story primarily explores the mystery of the free masons, whom Vauban, the Man in the iron Mask (their Grand Master in fact) as well as the protagonist and his master are also members of. The stone masons in this series have powers similar to gradiation magic( the type of magic Shirou Emiya specialises in) and the story emphasises upon fortresses and ways of breaking through them--since the protagonist is a member of a mercenary group which emphasises upon siege engineering. The heroine of this series is a Saber like girl who is also a fortress spirit, an existence that could make any fortress she dwells in impregnable.The style of this light novel varies a lot with others because it is historical fiction combined with fantasy.Haven't read the whole thing, but the author hinted that it might have a 'Three Musketeers' tone to it, as well as exploring secret societies and famous structures in Europe. Including STnBD, it seems the author has written a total of three series since debuting in 2008.

Of the girls I've seen, I would go with Est. This is mainly because she is the only one who can actually stand up to Kamito. Though my real preference is for a Harem End.

What do you mean by stand up to Kamito? Please elaborate. Despite her popularity, I see her more as a fragile imouto figure who needs to be looked after. Unlike Restia and all the other spirits, she couldn't even look after herself. A significant part of her relationship with Kamito was about the latter looking after her. This is also one of the reasons why I want Yui Ogura as her VA. She's a genuine loli. This view may subject to change should Est become more independent.

The other girls are typical tsundere characters, who all love the MC but have trouble expressing it. However, unlike most MC (cough*Saito*cough) Kamito is a huge S, and whenever he starts teasing one of the girls they are completely helpless. Which is pretty damn funny to readers. The only ones who can keep up with him (that I know of) are Est and the bit... I mean the Principal.

One of the moe factors surrounding Est was how he had to look after her--such as padding her head, feeding her and placing a blanket over her when she fell a sleep. Est constantly takes naps, and she really behaves like a really young child--albeit with occasional cheeky remarks.Also, unlike other spirits, she seem to have no defensive or offensive capabilities on her own. Even Restia was able to fire lightning bolts, I think.Moreover, she is snarky partially because she had portions of her memory sealed. The original Est was a kuudere.

In my opinion , Est is similar to Shiki (Tsukihime) 1 side she look helpless and innocent while her other side is a genuine god-class troll who can make other look at her bitterly and i doubt the past Est is really that diffirent from the current Est.
