I think the good old Brits would make a decent villain. They've got a definite style, like the Nazis or Soviets, that could be capitalized on, and they were a superpower once, unlike pathetic North Korea. They could be badass, especially if a touch of steampunk is involved.

I can already think of a scenario: It is the year 1933. The Great Depression has hit Great Britain hard. An extremist party, revolving around reverence toward the crown, takes Parliament and and conducts a mass purge of leftist, "undesirable" elements, such as Catholics, Jews, socialists, and "wogs". All of Britain's troubles are gradually heaped upon the French, who had been the Empire's rival for centuries. 1939. The Britisch Imperium launches a surprise seaborne invasion of France and takes Paris in a matter of two weeks, humbling the once-powerful nation and ending the Republic. Democratic, Weimar Germany is invaded up to the Rhine, where only Soviet supplies help stabilize the front. But our attention now turns to the Western Hemisphere. The American people and government are slow to accept the British Imperium for what it really is. A military modernization effort has been underway to defend against possible incursions by Anglo-Canadian troops, but budget cuts and the effects of the Great Depression curtail its efficacy. From the Briton angle, however, the very existence of the USA has been a continuous insult to his Majesty's glory. In secret, and drawing upon captured French stocks and transports, the Brits move large numbers of men and machines to North America. On July 4th, 1941, as fireworks fly, a different kind of spectacle breaks out from the north. The Imperium's war machine, spearheaded by tanks and bomber aeroplanes using the latest "thunder" strategies, strikes fast and deep into the American heartland. New York falls, and Chicago is under siege. An enemy army stands mere miles outside Washington DC. Garrisons in the Pacific Northwest have been encircled and destroyed, and California is in danger. But the American people fight on. The President has announced that not one more state shall fall. The "American Patriotic War" has begun. Last edited by LeoXiao; 2012-11-07 at 00:58. |

@LeoXiao -- That actually seems pretty entertaining.. It reminds me a bit of what people were ruminating would have happened if after Washington lost The Battle of Brooklyn Heights.. he actually surrendered like he was "supposed to" or the British simply pursued.. Reminds me of (partially) the setting for the background for Code Geass..
So does anybody know if all the "Koreans" in (New) Red Dawn speak english? Reply hazy, try again |

Just remember, if you can't understand what they/it is saying, then it is always okay to shoot first and ask questions later... |

Pfft, if they'd casted asian actors in Avatar, people would be complaining next that asians actors only gets to lead in movies that are terrible
Fact of the matter is, entertainment produced for the consumption of a specific region is going to cater towards the dominant culture in that region, I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. People in those websites complain about the lack of asian characters or actors in the "good guys" role, yet how many times are westerners play the main or even good guys in Asian films? or are they usually cast as the token bad guy? hell, you see it in animes all the time too, just about every time the US (or really any westerners, except for Germans it seems ) is in a show, they're typically portrait as brutes/incompetent/evil etc etc. Where's the outcry from those people complaining about racial inequality in films again? It's one thing to complain about blatantly racist portrayals in a film, advocating some sort of affirmative action for movies just because a minority group doesn't have parity of good/leading roles in film? not so much. and I'm Asian |

And I could sort of understand the complaint. Asian character generally are type cast way too much. These days or rather aways I feel like Hollywood portraying Asians in too much of negative light.

Entertainment trend follows cultural trend. It's ultimately a business, they're not going to shoot themselves in the foot so a few people can feel better about themselves. Asian actors will become more mainstream in Hollywood once there are more Asian presence/influence in mainstream American culture, ie. once it's profitable to do so. This isn't just for Hollywood either, this goes for just about every single entertainment industry in the world. |

Also, would you not argue that entertainment could create its own cultural trend? No need to go along with what current society dictates everytime.

For example, I would say the most successful example of "entertainment" that had "created" a cultural trend in recent years would be the likes of Fox News etc., but even then they're merely feeding and reinforcing an already existing narrative, instead of creating the wave themselves. Like I said, it ultimately boils down to money, the movie industry is what is is because it's most profitable to be that way, if it suddenly became profitable to push Asian actors in movies, you can bet it'll happen faster than you can blink. |
