My guess is that the guy with the fat face (be he Kaidou or the unnamed guy) is the goofy one. After all, EVERY group/organization introduced in this series so far has had at least one goofball to balance things out....

...And speaking of groups, I'm very much interested in learning more about the other two Yonkous' crews, particularly Kaidou's. Maybe his men had a hand in decimating Moria's old crew.....
I sincerely doubt Kaidou's crew did nothing when their captain faced off against Moria, he did state that he had a crew far greater with members equal in strength to Luffy's own when he went into the new world. If the Emperor's crew played no part in taking down a crew of that caliber, the Strawhats are going to have to do some major "growth" during this little "separation" arc.

The jokster idea is plausible, every organization needs its "cloud-coo-coo-lander."
I doubt it's Kaidou though, if Moria had been defeated by someone like that I think he'd have more of a grudge if he came against a similar adversary(Luffy in this case).

Red Haired Pirate Crew
A powerful crew of pirates that travels freely in the New World!!

Commodore Shanks
First mate: Ben Beckman
Crew: Yasopp, Lucky Roux
Others: New member, Rockstar

Shanks is a leader who is well-supported by his crew. With a calm and collected first mate, and also other strong followers under his command, the aura of this powerful pirate crew can easily be felt anywhere. With new members joining in, this organization continues to expand further in size.

Power
Caption: Gazing at the other pirates from above, as they sail on the seas in great style!!

Feared even by the World Government, this pirate organization sails freely on the high seas, driven by its beliefs.

The crew do not enjoy plundering, freedom and happiness is the mainstream ideology in this organization, just like their commodore's magnanimous personality.

Picture with squirrel
Person A: Hey hey hey, whaccha doing? Stop, you've been working the whole day. Come back now.
Person B: No, if I stop now, I'll feel ashamed.
Person A: Your life is more important than your pride. Your task is complete. Don't bother anymore.

Comments: He values his comrades most. With great magnanimity, he shares a good relationship with his crew.

Picture of Shanks with crew
Crew: What do we do, captain?
Shanks: Prepare to set sail.
Crew: Lookin' for Whitebeard?
Shanks: Aye.

Comments: A scene from a moment on the Grand Line, ? Island. The captain's decision is always so quick and apt.

Key Person: Shanks

The fearsome red hair pirate dubbed as one of the Four Emperors!!
One of the four emperors who conquers the New World alongside with Whitebeard. Usually when he arrives, he needs only a few words and simple actions to change the entire mood of the battle. His sharp gaze is his prominent features as a great pirate.

Picture of Shanks clutching his arm: "I will bet on it for the sake of the new generation..."
Comments: Shanks saw the shadow of his younger self on Luffy. Using his arm as exchange, he entrusted the future in Luffy's hands.

Picture below: "His aura remains as always."
Comments: Those who are unprepared will always be overwhelmed by the Red Haired' aura.

Whitebeard Pirate Crew - strongest pirate crew in all the Blues!!

Captain: Edward Newgate
1st division leader: Marco
2nd division leader: Portgas D. Ace
Deserted from 2nd division: Marshall D. Teach
3rd division leader: Jozu
... up to the 16th division leader

In order to properly manage the 1600 strong "family", the crew is split into 16 divisions. The posts of division leader are held by top class followers, who manage the rowdy fellows under their command.

Power
Possessing the honourable title of "the world's strongest", they aim for the top of the pirates' league!!
Before the start of the Great Age of Piracy, there existed a legend of the pirate called Whitebeard, who gathered a large crew of strong fighters under his flag. The crew joined him because of his strength and sense of righteousness, thus the organization is as firm as a rock.

A force that is definitely fit to be known as one of the Four Emperors. Deemed as the strongest pirate in the Grand Line. This great and well-known pirate organization is now on their journey for One Piece.

Picture top with Buggy
Buggy: Whitebeard is...that fellow, the only monster who can fight against the Pirate King Roger. There is no argument that he is currently the strongest pirate!!!! The man who is closest to One Piece!!!!
His name spreads across the four seas!
Caption: Buggy flees from his sight. Since the death of Gol D. Roger, he is now the most fearsome pirate.

Picture below the above
Whitebeard: That bastard committed the most unforgivable act on a pirate's ship, that is, violating the code of killing a comrade....!! Anyone on my ship, no matter how unworthy, is like a son of mine. The soul of the murdered will not rest....!!!
The firm unity becomes a catalytic power!!
Caption: Whitebeard calls his subordinates as his sons. The family-like management style of Whitebeard's crew is its greatest strength.

Picture with Ace
Ace: I'll ensure Whitebeard become the Pirate King.
Caption: Ace is truly impressed with the leadership of Whitebeard. The crew are willing to throw their lives away for the sake of their captain.

Picture with Marco
Marco: Oi, what are you doing here, Red-Haired?
Shanks: Oh. That's Marco from the 1st division isn't it? Do you wanna join my crew?
Marco: You're damn annoying.
Caption: Every member of the leading staff are strong and capable, even Red-Haired, who is one of the Four Emperors, is very impressed with them, and unconsciously try to recruit them as his crew.

Key Person: Edward Newgate

The legendary person who is closest to being the "Pirate King"!
With a body that resembles a giant and an intimidating aura that can shake the sky, (Whitebeard is) the strongest pirate who has ever challenged the Pirate King for supremacy.
Though he has aged and requires tube (liquid) feeding and specialised nurses to care for him, whether it is his spirit or ability, that has never deteoriated!

Dark picture in the center
Grinning face: Able to throw justice away. (?) Never let that kid do as he like. To let Teach know how to behave like a human is my responsibility!
Caption: He does not let anyone harm his comrades, moreover, he would not allow his comrades to plot against one another.

Pictures on right
MIB: Nobody can stop it! Time must move on speedily!
Whitebeard: That doesn't scare me, because I am Whitebeard!
Caption: The fearless Whitebeard. He has the courage to face any danger that approaches him directly.

Picture with ship (The 4 Emperors finally met!)
Caption: If Whitebeard fights with Red-Haired, even the skies can split into two! Is this the premonition for the storm of change to arrive?

The Pirate King's Opponent
Whitebeard has fought with many pirates during his life long journey as a pirate. Among his opponents, the most famous will be the Pirate King, Gol. D. Roger!
Picture with 3 peeps
Whitebeard: Having fought many battles with Roger's pirate crew, I remember some of the people with special characteristics. That interesting guy with a red nose who was with you, is he still alive?
Caption: An old friend of Shanks when the latter was still a trainee onboard Roger's ship. In this cruel world, not many can survive.
Picture at the bottom
Whitebeard: When I see your face, the wound which that bastard gave me is starting to hurt.
Caption: The wounds left on Whitebeard's body are the evidence of his battles with Roger, they are unforgettable memories....

Portgas D. Ace
Ace, the Division Two leader who seeks to kill the deserter

He grew up in the same windmill village as Luffy and possesses the power of the Natural Type Devil Fruit, the Flare Flare Fruit! He has extraordinary combat skills, even before he acquired the power of the Devil Fruit, his abilities were way above Luffy's. Ace left for the sea 3 years before Luffy and he met Whitebeard. Impressed by his spirit, from then on, he gave everything in his power to ensure that Whitebeard becomes the Pirate King.

Under Whitebeard's orders, Ace went on a solo mission to settle scores with the ex-crew Teach. The battle between Ace and Teach led to an event that dramatically changed the entire Grand Line!

Picture on right
Ace: In that case, all the more I wouldn't let you free. That fellow is my younger brother. Needless to say, I will not become your partner either.
Caption: Having known that Teach's target is Luffy, Ace's battle spirit became more intense.

Picture on left (betting his hopes on his brother!)
Ace: Come to the top of the pirates' league, Luffy.
Caption: Even though they are opponents, he does not look forward to his brother's development.

Bottom Right Picture (The battle of fate!)
Ace: Fire Cross!
Caption: On the Benaro(?) Island, the fight with Teach finally started! (Ace) uses the powers of the Flare Flare Fruit to its full potential!

Bottom Left Box: The Special Will of D
Unperturbed by external influences and seeing through matters till the very end is Ace's style. Can this be the power of D also?
Picture
Ace: Why? If it's you, I wouldn't stand on ceremony. I'm definitely going.
Buggy: It's confirmed then. It's so difficult to organise a feast!
Caption: He joined Buggy's feast without hesitation and they had a great time!

No. I doubt it....
If the last enemy is going to be something like The Pirate King and Whitebeard situation...
Blackbeard wouldn't fight the bill...
Whitebeard is about honor and morals... something Blackbeard completely lacks...
I think one of the Supernovas or a character yet to be introduced will be Luffy's last enemy

Doubt it.
I think Shanks will retire if Luffy become a Yonkou...
When he was talking to Whitebeard about his missing arm...
He said he "made a bet on the New Era" or something like that...
So I think Shanks has high hopes for Luffy..
So Shanks can't be his enemy

Strangely, I would like to see a Shanks Luffy duel happen, however unlikely it may seems (I am sure it will be cool). Personal desire aside, I am sure Shanks is going to help Luffy hold down one of the big players in the New World.

Can't help but wonder how is the relationship between the Yonkou exactly.

Is anyone else wondering why WB's crew is full of young people and not old men or is it just me?

Or maybe this is his second or third crew..perhaps his first crew was wiped out twenty years+ back?

^We haven't even seen Whitebeard's entire crew yet, so I think it's too soon to say that his whole crew is full of young blood. Furthermore, we don't even know if guys like Marco and Jozu are actually that young (for all we know, either of those guys could be older than Shanks). We definitely know that Blackbeard (who was a former Whitebeard pirate) was a bit ahead in years, since Ace comments that he's lived twice as long as him.....

Pardon the double-post, but I thought it appropriate to bump this thread in light of the fact that the latest chapter introduces us to a number of pirate captains from the New World (though only half of the ones shown were actually named). Even more interesting is that all these people are allies of Whitebeard, which goes to show just how overwhelming his influence is. Now we'll finally see just what New World veterans are capable of! As I said in the 551 thread, "Thunder Lord" Makugai and "Bohemian Knight" Doma are the captains who caught my interestt he most. There's also some old woman who resembles Lola amongst the captains (so she may be Lola's mother, who was said to be a great pirate of the New World). And of course, there's also the chance that we may see other Yonkou aside from Whitebeard make an appearance in this war (most likely Kaidou, since he already attempted to attack Newgate before he could reach Marineford)......

I'm a bit confused as to why Aokiji, Akainu and Kizaru (i.e. the Admirals), the rest of hte Marines and the Shichibukai seemed unaware as to what WB was capable of. I mean, it would seem logical to me to inform your Navy and allies as to what exactly your facing in advance, especially when you are facing the World's Strongest Man. Guess Sengoku thinks differently heh.

Did anybody understand what was happening between Kaidou and Shanks? It said something about how Kaidou was headed towards Whitebeard, but Shanks intercepted him, and the Marine commented that a fight between two Yonkou is barely something they could deal with at that time. What was Kaidou's initial intention and why would Shanks stop him?

To anyone who thinks the story of One Piece will end after the current story arc, don't bet on it as we have yet to be introduced to Kaidou and the other unknown member of the Yonkou.

Kaidou was about to attack Whitebeard from behind. But Shanks intercepted him and their battle ended in a stalemate. The World Government was worried what the battle between the may have led to.

Oh, I've heard rumors from whoever thought of it that Oda had all the elements he needed to finish the story of One Piece when we have yet to see all the characters and their capabilities.

ooooh.
Well, when you think about it, he actually does.
The strongest pirate vs. the world government.
If Luffy wasn't the main character, and him being Pirate King wasn't the main goal.
This would be a perfect setting to end the manga.

Well, I mean, there's still the whole second half of the Grand Line. Not to mention the Straw Hats haven't even gotten to Merman Island yet. And there are a lot of odds and ends that still need tying up. While it's possible to bring Dragon into it, he's another thing missing.

oda can just end it with... The journey continues... he doesn't actually have to finish it for One piece to end. Plenty of mangas end abruptly. Doubt one piece will be one of them since its such a $$ maker and so popular

or he can just kill off luffy in this war...

Go to all that trouble of writing and drawing for 10 years+ only to have the protagonist die randomly?

What sort of shit ass story is that?

Btw, someone mentioned this on AP and I found it interesting as it isn't so obvious (well I missed it despite being relatively familiar with Greek mythology), but there seem to be quite a number of parallels between Whitebeard and Poseidon (Greek God of the Sea).

Quoting his post:

Quote:
On the note of Whitebeard and his Gura Gura fruit, I was checking out Wikipedia when I found the Poseidon, the Greek God of the sea page. I was most curious about this line:

Quote from Wiki:
"In Greek mythology, Poseidon (Greek: Ποσειδῶν; Latin: Neptūnus) was the god of the sea and, as "Earth-Shaker," of earthquakes."

In it, it notes that Poseidon had many children, when that was said it made me think of his "sons". I think there is symbolism between this and Whitebeard being the "Strongest man alive." [On the sea?] And also his DF, as well as his relationship with his crew. Then again, it could be coincidence.
Anyone else find this interesting?
