Our closet is full of odd little games most "muggles" have never heard of. "Settlers of Catan" is one of the more identifiable ones.

They have the innate advantage of working when the power is off.

I heard one comment today that the snap election is designed to thwart Ishihara before his Sunshine Party can get better organized to contest the elections. As the article notes, now is not a very auspicious time to hold an election from the DPJ's point of view. It does look like both the DPJ and the LDP will be denied a majority, though, and will need to form a coalition.

They might as well go ahead and schedule the next election after this one, you know they're going to need another one soon anyway

See, I don't care what religion it is -- this attitude is crap. A multi-cultural society *must* remain secular at the core.
Also, such a move could further incite prejudice and hate crime than tolerance.

And speaking of hate crimes, nothing is more potentially offending than this school textbook in India, obviously written with an extreme vegetarian slant (the author's name -- too damn phony to be Indian -- is probably a pen name stolen from a Filipino national on Facebook):

Quote:
The chapter details the "benefits" of a vegetarian diet and goes on to list "some of the characteristics" found among non-vegetarians.

"They easily cheat, tell lies, forget promises, they are dishonest and tell bad words, steal, fight and turn to violence and commit sex crimes," it says.

The chapter, full of factual inaccuracies, refers to Eskimos (Inuit) as "lazy, sluggish and short-lived", because they live on "a diet largely of meat".

It adds: "The Arabs who helped in constructing the Suez Canal lived on wheat and dates and were superior to the beef-fed Englishmen engaged in the same work."

Why is a non-vegetarian writing about the ethically superior vegetarians as compared to his kind?

I Google-checked this Poddar character, and it's more likely not an Indian name but a pen name (stolen from a real person) used by some bigoted writer to hide the authorship of this distributed form of hatred.

Thursday's interview segment on Colbert featured an anthropologist who attributed the increase in human brain size to the switch from vegetarian diets to meat eating.

thanks, but I wouldn't be "going in" either way.
my reserve unit mostly deals with logistical aspects rather then combat duty.
still, thanks for the concern.

Well you would be dealing with commandos tasked to disrupt supply lines, instead of the normal ground troops.

Stay safe.

Turkey to ask NATO for [Patriot] missiles on Syria border

It seems that Turkey will ask NATO on monday to send patriots missiles to their border to Syria. Rumors have it Germany might deploy their systems and soldiers there. (Well, unless Merkel can avoid it.)

If the adversary was a conventional army or if he would be deep into ennemy territory, I would say than it could be more probable, no ?

Thousands march against same-sex marriage bill

Thousands of people rallied in Paris and across France on Saturday to protest a government bill that would extend marriage and adoption rights to same-sex couples. March organisers said marriage required "one dad and one mom for every child."

Well fuck that noise.

Does anyone know the demographic of same-sex supporters in France? I thought they were quite socially liberal.
