Exclusive: John McCain Slips Across Border Into Syria, Meets With Rebels:
"Sen. John McCain Monday became the highest-ranking U.S. official to enter Syria since the bloody civil war there began more than two years ago, The Daily Beast has learned. McCain, one of the fiercest critics of the Obama administration’s Syria policy, made the unannounced visit across the Turkey-Syria border with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army. He stayed in the country for several hours before returning to Turkey. Both in Syria and Turkey, McCain and Idris met with assembled leaders of Free Syrian Army units that traveled from around the country to see the U.S. senator. Inside those meetings, rebel leaders called on the United States to step up its support to the Syrian armed opposition and provide them with heavy weapons, a no-fly zone, and airstrikes on the Syrian regime and the forces of Hezbollah, which is increasingly active in Syria." Israel warns Russia against arming Syrian government:
"Israel quickly issued a thinly veiled warning that it would bomb the Russian S-300 missiles if they were sent to Syria, as such a move would bring the advanced guided missiles within range of civilian and military planes over Israel. Israel has conducted three sets of air strikes on Syria this year, aimed at preventing missiles being brought close to its border by the Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah." From what I remember, when it comes to things on their own border, the Israeli take care of it themselves.
Since air superiority is pretty much how the Israeli have won most of the time, they aren't about to give it up. Especially to Syria.

The Russians probably won't sell such advanced hardware to a place where its technology can be easily pilfered by undercover NATO agents.
Even if they did, they would sell S300s with special command codes that does not address to the rest of their arsenal; which then they would sell the codes to the Israelis for extra money, knowing that they would leak them to the Americans and cause the latter to be more complacent. Which then they can capture the technology when a F-35 or B2 is shot down with that.

Well I'm sure Israel won't mind a russian mediterranean fleet loitering near its shores. How much more suicidal can it get I wonder.

Syria: The Spanish Civil War All Over Again:
"History may not quite repeat itself, but the war in Syria — invariably, “the Syrian Civil War” — is eerily similar to the “Spanish Civil War” in the mid-1930s. The latter started as an internal conflict, as did Syria, and then sucked in the major powers, including Great Britain, France, Hitler’s Germany, Mussolini’s Italy, and Stalin’s Soviet Union. The Syrian war features active intervention from Russia and Iran, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Qatar, and increasingly busy action is en route from Great Britain, France, and the United States." Empire building is a hobby that is hard to get over.
And yes Israel will do it to keep their air superiority. The likelihood is that Russia won't do anything in responce because Syria is not worth it as long as Russia can keep its Naval base. If Russia does do something, well....it was a nice world.....
