Well obviously if you favor Survivability over DPS, trickster-Dante is the way to go. But after awhile, and attempting the insane new Bloody Palace, I've put more focus into DPS.

And your argument of over-using the 'B' button is abit flawed. That's like saying you over-use the 'Y' button for melee. There are only 4 buttons on that controller after all. Using 'B' IS part of Nero's fighting style and Combo.

You can use it all the time to solve your problem, but that's doesn't mean it's Recommended. Against some mobs like the Frost and Assault and the Angelos, it would leave you open to back-stab.

And you have to remember, that one arm is suppose to even the score between Nero and all of Dante's Devil Arms and Style, that's alot to live up to.

How many hack-and-slash characters have a propane-fuel injection system in their sword? The fact that he is a playable DMC character makes him memorable by itself. The fact that he has Devil-Vergil, is going to solidified that fact.

And Yes, that arm helps as well.

Btw, you use the word 'imbalance', but who or what are you comparing it too? There are only two playable characters in this game, and both of them have their difference way of playing.

As for the term one-trick pony, are you telling me that you use every single one of Dante's styles and weapons?

One of the bigger plot problems is the finale a little, since there's so many characters semi-intertwined, it seems a slight pity that connecting some is a little hard to do.

Not to mention I'm trying to balance the gray a little. I've noticed I've kinda made TSAB look more evil than the antagonist.

Sounds like me, just with a bit more writing progress. I have a lot of stuff planned out except for holes right in the middle. But I've read your stuff and know enough to think that whatever it is, it will be awesome :3

Accounting for tags, there's about 12000 words in Episode 01, and about 15500 in Episode 02, so about 27500 words total .

Fun fact: Originally, Alpha was going to have a lot of Xenogears references, including a finally involving Nanoha piloting the titular Gear itself against the final enemy.

History

Jia Rong is an ethnic Tang born on Midchilda to an ordinary family and led an otherwise ordinary life of school at Gakutenoh Academy from Kindergarten all the way up to High School. He would eventually develop a knack for plumbing the Tesnet for the most obscure data, and sometimes he even yields classified information that he’d squirrel away for the future when he needed it.

But his most unique point is his obsession with mecha and walkers. While other guys horded babe magazines, Kai hunted Arm Slave, The Warhammer, Newtype and Hobby Belka, the many other periodicals that dwelled on the vintage war-machines and those being used in the Rim Worlds. Instead of giant posters of fanservice, his room is lined wall to wall with shelves of Funpla procured by Uncle Mardukas after each 97th assignment. He even treats himself like a robot; he waits for a wound to be “repaired”; he describes fever as “Condition Red”; he calls panting from exertion “venting”. And he would always proudly proclaim his life-long ambition was to build his own suit, however unfeasible, and fly it.

Therefore, the most wonderful thing that has happened to him was a chance encounter with Kha AKA Alexander Rowell in the Grade Terminator “0” while he was in school at 13.

As Gakutenoh was a top choice for members of high society, the school once became the target of a terrorist hostage taking. Always eager to be the hero, Kai brazenly attacked one of the radicals man-handling another student, and would’ve surely died in that struggle if not for the Cleric’s timely intervention.

The mental image of the 0 Grade saving the entire school single-handedly was burnt into Kai’s mind. It was possible for mecha to exist and thrive in that day and age – they just had to be cored by a mage!

He had the basic designs for the Frame as it was still used by the TSAB in the Rim Worlds where mere mages cannot survive the perilous environments; what he needed was parts. At that time, Kai had been working part time at Lowe Guild, a company that salvages scrap from all over the planet. By begging or by earning from Lowe, and borrowing tools to make the rest, Kai quickly gathered whatever he needed to put together a rudimentary magical device that took the form of full-body armor.

The end result was an amateurish machine that could barely move, much less fly and shoot. Not only that, it lacked the henshin storage function of a normal Device, and Kai had to build wheels into its feet so that he could push it to school and back.

Kai and the dodgy device P01 Red Frame appear in Mahou Itsugi Powered Artei mostly for comic effect as the butt of jokes about the mekka-otaku. Even other club members of the “Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture” like Darco and Lingo all discouraged him from trying to build a useless walker in the era of magic. Kai would have none of it; running on his own impetus that people have long labeled “crack”, Kai would perfect and rebuild Red Frame into P02 Blue Frame by late 0069.

That eccentric obsession aside, Kai is a very helpful and friendly person, and many people, especially the girls, find his warm and inclusive personality very attractive. As he is a firm believer of hard work, guts and determination in conquering all, Kai is relentless in whatever he does, and routinely scores near the top of his class every year. However, this hardly translates to sports, where his clumsiness and two left feet often leave him on his bum rather than on the ball. Kai also is part of the Eta swordsmanship club, but no matter how hard he tried, he could barely improve beyond the bare basics and compete.

His stubborn fascination with walkers may confound many, but his never-say-no attitude to detractors and life in general won him respect of many future high-flyers, like Nanoha and the Aces. And while it frustrates her to no avail, Sophia counts Kai as one of her closest friends in school.

Many years, and many more laughs later, Wu Jia Rong graduated from Gakutenoh with top honors and is now an Engineering Sergeant under scholarship to FutureTech Laboratories’ Center for Biochemical Applications to Technical Medicine. His path would eventually cross with the Aces once again in MC 0075, when he is hand-picked by Hayate to be Shari’s assistant in the founding of Lost Property Riot Force 6.

With his newest assignment to the cutting edges of both technology and battlefront, Kai firmly believes that the day he could fly in the same sky as the Grade Terminators is fast approaching…

Powers

Kai has no powers what-so-ever. Instead he uses his Linker system as a generator to power his Frame. As such, all his “skills” are equipment-based. Even though he has the looks and feel of a Mobilesuit, Ash/tray can’t fly but jumpjets from spot to spot until the completion of P06 Out Frame.

Due to his background job, he almost never sees combat and he's fine with that. But if the enemy were to appear at his doorstep, he would gladly jump into Silver Frame and take him on, no matter how powerful.

About the Ash/tray series

As big as it looks, it's only slightly over 2 meters in height, as the system is a Magic Frame battle suit, with maryoku thrust vectoring and power-lifting built in. Outside of the suit Kai may be next to useless, inside he's as good as the average B-rank mage.

But why "Ash/tray" of all names? "Because the ZD plunket in the occulation-regulator assembly that is always goofing up in the first Red Frame resembled that of an ash tray," Kai would reply. No one has managed to understand whatever that meant, and any attempt to probe further were met with "Classified Information".

The MBF production code for the series stands for “My Backyard Frame” and the PXX that follows denotes the prototype generation. It is a testament to Ash/tray’s humble beginnings 6 years ago, when Kha built Red Frame using refurbished parts cannibalized from the various trinkets that pass through the salvage company he works part-time at.

The earlier frames, Red, Blue and Black, apart from him out-growing the fitted frame, were all made solely for creating a working armor that wasn't a liability, as they were plagued with weird but comical bugs like venting a pantsu-flashing typhoon when Kai sneezes, flipping whoever taps the left shoulder, or having a voice projection system that converted all of Kai's words into "Fumoffu" while shutting it down would crash the whole operating system. And the list goes on...

Gold Frame was the first attempt to build some functionality to the Frame. Kai wanted to add spell reflection to the armor's coating and hence improve survivability in real combat. But Kai ran out of funds, and the Guild out of parts, and despite all the scrimping, the Frame was left missing it's right arm. It was eventually sold to Aurion Dauer, who would then reuse the materials to make the golden Grade Terminator "Vivio".

Silver Frame, the product of Kai's mini-thesis that won him his scholarship, was the only Frame close to weapons grade.

Kai reused the idea for Gold Frame, but proposed that using the cheaper, silver-colored Kaluminum instead of the rarer, more durable, golden Zendarium, and to only apply that treatment to the armor surrounding more critical parts of the body. This resulted in a cheaper and much more practical frame able to take wear and tear while being very suitable for mass-production. It was only too bad that the judges felt Silver Frame was too gawdy to be tactical, but they nonetheless approved the construction of the Frame for research purposes, and assigned Kai to be its test pilot. In exchange, Kai had to periodically come up with innovations for the Frame, and somehow fix its shine while remaining reflective in order to keep the Frame.

With that, Kai set out with relish and through the course of StrikerS, he would build several metamagic devices for Silver Frame. Below is a collection dated to around May 0075:


Defensive Powers

Barrier Jacket – The red and white jump-suit like garment that Kai wears whenever he is testing new equipment sent in by the Labs. He wears it as an underlying garment before donning any of the Frames.

G-Field – Kai's name for Ash/tray's field defence.

Frame on! – A spoken command that activates Silver Frame to unfurl from Solo Mode and let him step in.


Offensive Powers

Mage Gatling – The weapon that gives Kai his full call-sign. Works very well when having to stand ground against overwhelming odds. It has been with him ever since he built Red Frame years ago, and has been refined and upgraded over time. Like other rifle-type devices, this can use belt-fed non-lethal, stunning or lethal rounds. Kai likes to yell "ATATATATATATATATATATA!!!" when firing this device.

Grade Rifle – A stereotypical medium-range beam rifle from a mecha anime. Fires 5.56mm magically-charged shots, and like other rifle-type devices can select and use non-lethal, stunning or lethal rounds.

Grade Shield – A stereotypical tower shield from a mecha anime. However, this jig is chock-full of gadgets. On top of holding both configurations of mage javelins, it houses the umbilicus port for charging the suit while awaiting launching and additional vector jets. Regrettably, the first equipment to get blown up is usually this.

Subaru - While it is natural for Kai to proclaim that he knows Subaru inside out, he does not understand why she'd clamp him down before he can complete his sentence. Other than that, he and the Nakajima sisters get along very well, and even let him "borrow" their bodies to learn about sentokijin musculature.

Teana - On good talking terms, but with no real common ground in between. He does feel for her having lost her family, and when she started her downward spiral, he was very concerned, but unable to do anything.

Uomo - While out testing Silver Frame's new sensor suite, Kai discovered Uomo and a team of Type-5 stealthbots spying on Southfort. He tried to arrest the humanoid despite Hayate's warning him not to engage, and despite being out-numbered 7 to 1, his understanding of common AI flaws allowed him to succeed in destroying all the Gadgets. However, Uomo managed to escape.

Their paths would cross over and over throughout StrikerS, becoming the stereotypical "rival pilot" relationship of a mecha anime.

After StrikerS, Kai would discover that his adversary was a male and freak out pretty badly...

Hence, he’s often seen running errands all over Southfort, especially for the tech department to which he’s attached to. The goodwill often translates into spare parts to maintain/upgrade the Ash/tray.

History

Jia Rong is an ethnic Tang born on Midchilda to an ordinary family and led an otherwise ordinary life of school at Gakutenoh Academy from Kindergarten all the way up to High School. He would eventually develop a knack for plumbing the Tesnet for the most obscure data, and sometimes he even yields classified information that he’d squirrel away for the future when he needed it.

But his most unique point is his obsession with mecha and walkers. While other guys horded babe magazines, Kai hunted Arm Slave, The Warhammer, Newtype and Hobby Belka, the many other periodicals that dwelled on the vintage war-machines and those being used in the Rim Worlds. Instead of giant posters of fanservice, his room is lined wall to wall with shelves of Funpla procured by Uncle Mardukas after each 97th assignment. He even treats himself like a robot; he waits for a wound to be “repaired”; he describes fever as “Condition Red”; he calls panting from exertion “venting”. And he would always proudly proclaim his life-long ambition was to build his own suit, however unfeasible, and fly it.

Therefore, the most wonderful thing that has happened to him was a chance encounter with Kha AKA Alexander Rowell in the Grade Terminator “0” while he was in school at 13.

As Gakutenoh was a top choice for members of high society, the school once became the target of a terrorist hostage taking. Always eager to be the hero, Kai brazenly attacked one of the radicals man-handling another student, and would’ve surely died in that struggle if not for the Cleric’s timely intervention.

The mental image of the 0 Grade saving the entire school single-handedly was burnt into Kai’s mind. It was possible for mecha to exist and thrive in that day and age – they just had to be cored by a mage!

He had the basic designs for the Frame as it was still used by the TSAB in the Rim Worlds where mere mages cannot survive the perilous environments; what he needed was parts. At that time, Kai had been working part time at Lowe Guild, a company that salvages scrap from all over the planet. By begging or by earning from Lowe, and borrowing tools to make the rest, Kai quickly gathered whatever he needed to put together a rudimentary magical device that took the form of full-body armor.

The end result was an amateurish machine that could barely move, much less fly and shoot. Not only that, it lacked the henshin storage function of a normal Device, and Kai had to build wheels into its feet so that he could push it to school and back.

Kai and the dodgy device P01 Red Frame appear in Mahou Itsugi Powered Artei mostly for comic effect as the butt of jokes about the mekka-otaku. Even other club members of the “Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture” like Darco and Lingo all discouraged him from trying to build a useless walker in the era of magic. Kai would have none of it; running on his own impetus that people have long labeled “crack”, Kai would perfect and rebuild Red Frame into P02 Blue Frame by late 0069.

That eccentric obsession aside, Kai is a very helpful and friendly person, and many people, especially the girls, find his warm and inclusive personality very attractive. As he is a firm believer of hard work, guts and determination in conquering all, Kai is relentless in whatever he does, and routinely scores near the top of his class every year. However, this hardly translates to sports, where his clumsiness and two left feet often leave him on his bum rather than on the ball. Kai also is part of the Eta swordsmanship club, but no matter how hard he tried, he could barely improve beyond the bare basics and compete.

His stubborn fascination with walkers may confound many, but his never-say-no attitude to detractors and life in general won him respect of many future high-flyers, like Nanoha and the Aces. And while it frustrates her to no avail, Sophia counts Kai as one of her closest friends in school.

Many years, and many more laughs later, Wu Jia Rong graduated from Gakutenoh with top honors and is now an Engineering Sergeant under scholarship to FutureTech Laboratories’ Center for Biochemical Applications to Technical Medicine. His path would eventually cross with the Aces once again in MC 0075, when he is hand-picked by Hayate to be Shari’s assistant in the founding of Lost Property Riot Force 6.

With his newest assignment to the cutting edges of both technology and battlefront, Kai firmly believes that the day he could fly in the same sky as the Grade Terminators is fast approaching…

Powers

Kai has no powers what-so-ever. Instead he uses his Linker system as a generator to power his Frame. As such, all his “skills” are equipment-based. Even though he has the looks and feel of a Mobilesuit, Ash/tray can’t fly but jumpjets from spot to spot until the completion of P06 Out Frame.

About the Ash/tray series

As big as it looks, it's only slightly over 2 meters in height, as the system is a Magic Frame battle suit, with maryoku thrust vectoring and power-lifting built in. Outside of the suit Kai may be next to useless, inside he's as good as the average B-rank mage.

But why "Ash/tray" of all names? "Because the ZD plunket in the occulation-regulator assembly that is always goofing up in the first Red Frame resembled that of an ash tray," Kai would reply. No one has managed to understand whatever that meant, and any attempt to probe further were met with "Classified Information".

The MBF production code for the series stands for “My Backyard Frame” and the PXX that follows denotes the prototype generation. It is a testament to Ash/tray’s humble beginnings 6 years ago, when Kha built Red Frame using refurbished parts cannibalized from the various trinkets that pass through the salvage company he works part-time at.

The earlier frames, Red, Blue and Black, apart from him out-growing the fitted frame, were all made solely for creating a working armor that wasn't a liability, as they were plagued with weird but comical bugs like venting a pantsu-flashing typhoon when Kai sneezes, flipping whoever taps the left shoulder, or having a voice projection system that converted all of Kai's words into "Fumoffu" while shutting it down would crash the whole operating system. And the list goes on...

Gold Frame was the first attempt to build some functionality to the Frame. Kai wanted to add spell reflection to the armor's coating and hence improve survivability in real combat. But Kai ran out of funds, and the Guild out of parts, and despite all the scrimping, the Frame was left missing it's right arm. It was eventually sold to Aurion Dauer, who would then reuse the materials to make the golden Grade Terminator "Vivio".

Silver Frame, the product of Kai's mini-thesis that won him his scholarship, was the only Frame close to weapons grade.

Kai reused the idea for Gold Frame, but proposed that using the cheaper, silver-colored Kaluminum instead of the rarer, more durable, golden Zendarium, and to only apply that treatment to the armor surrounding more critical parts of the body. This resulted in a cheaper and much more practical frame able to take wear and tear while being very suitable for mass-production. It was only too bad that the judges felt Silver Frame was too gawdy to be tactical, but they nonetheless approved the construction of the Frame for research purposes, and assigned Kai to be its test pilot. In exchange, Kai had to periodically come up with innovations for the Frame, and somehow fix its shine while remaining reflective in order to keep the Frame.

With that, Kai set out with relish and through the course of StrikerS, he would build several metamagic devices for Silver Frame. Below is a collection dated to around July 0076:

Barrier Jacket – The red and white jump-suit like garment that Kai wears whenever he is testing new equipment sent in by the Labs. He wears it as an underlying garment before donning any of the Frames.

Mage Gatling – The weapon that gives Kai his full call-sign. Works very well when having to stand ground against overwhelming odds. It has been with him ever since he built Red Frame years ago, and has been refined and upgraded over time. Like other rifle-type devices, this can use belt-fed non-lethal, stunning or lethal rounds. Kai likes to yell "ATATATATATATATATATATA!!!" when firing this device.

Grade Rifle – A stereotypical medium-range beam rifle from a mecha anime. Fires 5.56mm magically-charged shots, and like other rifle-type devices can select and use non-lethal, stunning or lethal rounds.

Grade Shield – A stereotypical tower shield from a mecha anime. However, this jig is chock-full of gadgets. On top of holding both configurations of mage javelins, it houses the umbilicus port for charging the suit while awaiting launching and additional vector jets. Regrettably, the first equipment to get blown up is usually this.

Subaru - While it is natural for Kai to proclaim that he knows Subaru inside out, he does not understand why she'd clamp him down before he can complete his sentence. Other than that, he and the Nakajima sisters get along very well, and even let him "borrow" their bodies to learn about sentokijin musculature.

Teana - On good talking terms, but with no real common ground in between. He does feel for her having lost her family, and when she started her downward spiral, he was very concerned, but unable to do anything.

Uomo - While out testing Silver Frame, Kai discovered Uomo and a team of Type-5 stealthbots spying on Southfort. He tried to arrest the humanoid despite Hayate's warning him not to engage, and succeeded in destroying all the Gadgets. However, Uomo escaped.

Their paths would cross over and over throughout StrikerS, becoming the stereotypical "rival pilot" relationship of a mecha anime.

After StrikerS, Kai would discover that his adversary was a male and freak out pretty badly...

"Earth to Leona? You there?" Aurion smiled normally as if nothing ever happened between them at all.

Leona jerked at that sudden call as she leaped back several meters, literally.

"Auri.. Aur.." Leona stammered, her face red, both in embarrasment and mild anger, after that... that... outrageous act. And also self-anger, for even thinking about wanting to engage in a 'in her own mind, a dangerous love-affair with an older man.'

"It was... it was... a mist-"

"Feeling better now?"

"Eh?" Leona wondered at that question.

"Leona... I don't know what is it you're hiding, and I won't pretend to be a smartass... and speculate stuff although personally, I have a fair idea of what I think is going on. I just want you to know that... don't blame yourself on things that weren't your fault, and that the reason we're here together is because no one can carry every burden alone." Aurion spoke softly, as the wind blows softly.

It were thoughtful words... almost enough to make Leona forget what happened earlier... almost.

I'd figure you needed something to relax yourself, so I got something from Shamal, and coincidently, I somehow had something recently made to test out either, this thing here you see, which allows for 'realistic' mouth-to-mouth feeding and CPR, so I thought, hey why not kill 2 birds with one stone?"

Aurion bantered on sheepishly, ear-to-ear, not noticing that Leona's... really, really, really, really, really...RED.

"Aurion....san." Leona said in a most, calm, mannered voice, while a nice smile forcefully etched on her face.

"Yes?"

And the last thing Aurion saw was a leg, and something light blue.

And your argument of over-using the 'B' button is abit flawed. That's like saying you over-use the 'Y' button for melee. There are only 4 buttons on that controller after all. Using 'B' IS part of Nero's fighting style and Combo.

You can use it all the time to solve your problem, but that's doesn't mean it's Recommended. Against some mobs like the Frost and Assault and the Angelos, it would leave you open to back-stab.

And you have to remember, that one arm is suppose to even the score between Nero and all of Dante's Devil Arms and Style, that's alot to live up to.

Devil Trigger wise, I just like to use his "Showdown" Attack

Raijin'Shiden (God of Purple Lightning) - The ultimate combination attack in Tesla's arsenal, as the name suggests, it apears as purple lightning charging and arcing its way around Tesla's body. It temporarely boosts both physical strength and speed, allowing Tesla to defeat oponents she otherwise could not match in melee. The attack can also be released as a Long-range siege type attack.

No, it was beyond that. When she looked into his eyes earlier of which she's fully avoiding now, she was already mesmerized... It was because it was Aurion. There was no other reason, his eyes which filled with life, yet when one looks closely inside, there is a void, perfect... untouched... like a emptiness that is sad, yet pure... happy, yet hollow. Something which drew others to him.

She knew if she ventures inside... it's over for her. Yet, a part of her, something inside her screams for it.

She had never craved for someone this badly before. She wants Aurion Dauer.

Her hands were moving behind, as they moved to embrace him... wanting to accept that void, when Aurion pulled away from her, as he gently, with his fine arm, wiped the slight traces of saliva on her lower lips.

Leona felt her entire body, tight and anxious, suddenly relaxes itself completely after that... hot exchange. And at the same time, she felt her shoulders completely light, and her mind... despite that sudden act, completely unfazed. For a while, she didn't notice Aurion at all.

"Earth to Leona? You there?" Aurion smiled normally as if nothing ever happened between them at all.

Leona jerked at that sudden call as she leaped back several meters, literally.

"Auri.. Aur.." Leona stammered, her face red, both in embarrasment and mild anger, after that... that... outrageous act. And also self-anger, for even thinking about wanting to engage in a 'in her own mind, a dangerous love-affair with an older man.'

"It was... it was... a mist-"

"Feeling better now?"

"Eh?" Leona wondered at that question.

"Leona... I don't know what is it you're hiding, and I won't pretend to be a smartass... and speculate stuff although personally, I have a fair idea of what I think is going on. I just want you to know that... don't blame yourself on things that weren't your fault, and that the reason we're here together is because no one can carry every burden alone." Aurion spoke softly, as the wind blows softly.

It were thoughtful words... almost enough to make Leona forget what happened earlier... almost.

"E...even so, that was no excuse to be so vulgar... and... k... kiss me all of a sudden! Although I admit it works... no, what am I saying, anyway, it was still over the board!" Leona stammered further, though not as clearly as angered as before, now almost like a little girl embarrased.

"Oh, you mean this thing?"

Aurion flipped out a small card, which popped out a peculiar looking device... which looked like a staff-shaped syringe... with an edge shaped like a mouth.

"You mean..." Leona pointed at that... 'contraption' and she motions her lips and 'its lips.'

"Well, you see... I'd figure you needed something to relax yourself, so I got something from Shamal, and coincidently, I somehow had something recently made to test out either, this thing here you see, which allows for 'realistic' mouth-to-mouth feeding and CPR, so I thought, hey why not kill 2 birds with one stone?"

Aurion bantered on sheepishly, ear-to-ear, not noticing that Leona's... really, really, really, really, really...RED.

"Aurion....san." Leona said in a most, calm, mannered voice, while a nice smile forcefully etched on her face.

"Yes?"

BASH!

And the last thing Aurion saw was a leg, and something light blue.

"ERASE IT FROM YOUR MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nighty's EPICNESS is most unparalleled, even in crack!

Even though Leona giving a superb kick like that is out-of-character, me still likes it.

Character planning layout = 60%. There's some characters whom backstory is still pending, and such, along with what character to put in and how.

LOL WRITING PROGRESS = 5%. I wrote... say, 70% of 3 tracks in DestinyS's version of SS04, 20% of Jail Break, 20% of the random "KEWL" speeches throughout DestinyS, 5% of the finale, and 10% of the beginning. Oh, and 30% of flashback to Alhazred's destruction.

One of the bigger plot problems is the finale a little, since there's so many characters semi-intertwined, it seems a slight pity that connecting some is a little hard to do.

Not to mention I'm trying to balance the gray a little. I've noticed I've kinda made TSAB look more evil than the antagonist.

I agree on the fighting part, it's very difficult to write a detailed one. Liingo is probably the only one who writes the most comprehensive battle scenes ever.
