Good dubs that kids might enjoy.

Hi everyone,

I want to show a 8 year old girl some good shows. She likes cute stuff and I would like the shows to serve some educational value as well. Something like Card Captor Sakura would be awesome but she can only understand English and the English dub for that show is atrocious beyond belief.

So, any recommendations for good shows with decent dubs that a 8 year old girl might enjoy? Cutesy artwork and some decent action here and there along with a decent story would be perfect.

Much obliged!

Nanoha has some pretty intense scenes for an 8 year old girl, don't you think?

First, I suggest browsing the threads tagged with "children":

http://forums.animesuki.com/tags.php?tag=children

Angelic Layer is a good show with a decent dub, but it does have a couple of CLAMP touches that might raise some eyebrows.

As always, preview any show you intend to let a child watch, preferably with her parents. It might also help to read an episode synopsis if you don't intend to preview the entire show. From the series I've watched that are aimed at kids, the Japanese have many fewer qualms than American producers about presenting material that is difficult and disturbing to children. I'm talking here about events that might connect with kids' own lives, not over-the-top shows like Ren and Stimpy. Episode seven of Kemono no Sou-ja Erin is a good representative of what I'm talking about.

I've not listened to the dub for Mahou Shoujotai Arusu (aka "Tweeny Witches"), but I'll add that to this list here. If you ever decide to push her a bit and try watching shows with subtitles, I recommend Chi's Sweet Home and Dennou Coil. Chi is a good introduction to subtitles because the show is aimed at young children and uses simple vocabulary. Each episode is only three minutes long, too, so it's easy to stop if reading becomes too tiring. Coil is more demanding since the target age group was probably 11-14.

Thanks everyone for the solid suggestions. It's oddly difficult to remember shows when you want to recall them. Perhaps I should have developed the habit of list-keeping after all.

She has a fairly colorful parental history so the post you linked to is very relevant here, SejiSensei. Thanks for sharing your perceptive.

If I were a child I would chose animes with Adventures, Super Powers and Fantasies.
List:
hack//Legend of the Twilight
Avatar The Last Air Bender and Legends Of Korra.
This is the only show I know that is dub.
