Nothing is set in stone, things can changed later for the sake of the story. There are manga where the protagonist and the girl lead was implied as a couple in the beginning of the manga but that said protagonist eventually end up with another girl like Onani Master Kurosawa, Bloody Monday, Ultimate Hentai Kamen, Hitsuji no Uta...

Sorry dude, but whom Souma is going to end up with has been set in stone since chapter 1. The desires of a few fans won't get in the way of how the author wants his story to develop, sorry.

Megumi ended up being the first to start develop feelings for Souma as I'd already thought, which I must say doesn't bode well for the girl's romantic expectations.

But not when is so outright blatanly asserted in the very first chapter, and especially when the main female lead gets a side chapter focused solely on tasting love for the first time. I don't need more than this to tell who's getting Souma's food (heart).

@K. Shiruto I agree with you. To me it's also obvious Erina is the one who he is going to end up with. This manga is predictable. Looking back at chapter 1 and at the oneshot chapter. Erina is not just a random side character.

That doesn't say anything. I'm only concluding this based on what we know about the story so far. Looking at chapter (1 till 4), the oneshot and about Erina who doesn't know anything yet about the father of soma. Is definitly something that can't be rejected because we got a chapter of Megumi realising she loves souma.

I was under the impression that it was his knife. Doesn't he keep it in a case or something and brings it everywhere with him when he cooks?

Jokes aside, I doubt this manga will even touch romance on a serious level. It'll most likely be one-sided stuff and teasing from the author from time to time, and that's it. Characters like Ikumi, Megumi, and Erina will be fun to poke at with that stuff because of their personalities.

On a side note I would love to see a non-ero romance manga by the artist of this manga, Saeki Shun. The character designs are great.

You know how the saying goes that "sex sells". But still, I think a large part of her popularity in the character poll comes from the type of manga character she is...and it's what a lot of Japanese readers tend to like in their characters.

Not to mention that we don't even know for sure if that was even Tsukada's idea or if Tosh just decided to draw Erina.

Erina may be the main heroine during the early development, but i think the author changed his minds. I mean, if Megumi isnt the main heroine, she can always got written out from the manga after the Buffet arc. There is no reason for the author keeps using Megumi in almost every chapter sincehe has many other female characters available to use.

In fact, as a author, he can always create a situation for Soma and Erina to be a forced team for indefinitely duration and develop from there, but it didnt. Apparently, the author prefer to have Megumi stuck with Soma.

Remember! Megumi isnt main heroine, and she can be treated like Nikumi but for some reason, she end up in better position than Nikumi. If this isnt because the author or editor likes her..then i dont know what is the reason or divine intervention behind Megumi's abudance screentime.

Megumi is just there for the Moe. Erina is pretty much entangled with what actually is going on and has an indirect past relation with Souma. Souma's objective includes beating her + the other seats, plus he already challenged her with a "I'll make you say that it's good" line. Their "weights" on the story are completely different..... That being said, like other people have stated, I get the feeling that the manga will be lax enough so that Souma never picks "the one".

The biggest faction war I've seen on this forum was School Rumble with Eri vs. Yakumo. Nothing has even come close. Once the anime hits I can see Megumi vs. Erina perhaps rivaling that conflict.

Megumi just made it to the finals of the cooking competition. She is already one of the best cooks in her class. how many peiple passed 8? She is one of the 8 highest ranked cooks in the entirety of the freshman class judged by some of the harshest critics ever seen in the manga to date. I'd say her cooking skills are pretty good.

Japan loves a good Tsundere though I think she is pretty generic in her Tsundere qualities - Alice is a much more interesting character in the terms of conflict and potential love interest part tease, part tsundere and all moe. Yes, much more interesting.

for a romantic comedy, you're probably right, (man that manga was funny); but for the popular Shonen long term mangas like bleach, naruto, Fairy Tail I think those are pretty huge in the terms of shipping wars.
