Tankoubon was removed but they're keeping the bunkobon list? Damn, that's not cool for titles like Honzuki that lost a chance to shine completely.

Not sure how to read into this. Some obvious ones like Oregairu are missing but some relatively recent series are there instead like Tomozaki-kun.

Oregairu's got one too many hiatus'. Tomozaki-kun's had a relatively recent debut, but it must be extremely popular to make the top 10 in a decade list.

Actually, according to the book, oregairu isn't included because it's now enshrined in an exclusive Hall of Fame.

I wish I was kidding

You know what, I was actually asking for something like that years ago. Wish they went further and lumped Index and SAO into it as well. Also do something similar for the top characters as well; that way Misaka not coming first or second won't be the most shocking piece of LN news of the year. Misaka, Kamijou, Accelerator and Kirito should be exempt as their popularity is provably consistent in the long term.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Oregairu did end up in the hall of fame, I would just argue that they are some other series and characters that should probably join them there.

So, reviewing the boys and girls points, for some reason Ayanokouji has 1350 points when the usual winner has around 600-700

Turns out we have a lot more voters this time around.

2020:
Collabs: 46
HP voters: 4785
Total participants: 4831

2019
Collabs: 52
HP voters: 1639
Total participants: 1691

2018
Collabs: 56
HP voters: 2159
Character voters: 1578
Total participants: 2215

Maybe, but when Oregairu was in the polls, it consistently placed in the top 3 for years and sweeped multiple categories at once (best male character, best female characters, book rating). Remember that one year where Yukino, Yui, Iroha, and Hachiman, and the series were all in the top 10 at once?

While Index and SAO do place often, you can see even from this year that the books don't always place top 10. It's not anywhere close to the same level.

Sounds like they are trying to save face after the hiatus did a big blow on it's reputation.

Maybe they just caught up with the anime. I mean, when the series was on the last episode the last scene of the final episode got viral

And around the same time there was volume 7 which is for many the pinnacle of the series, which makes for a powerful combo (or who finished the anime went straight to vol 4 and saw that scene).

Well, good for him anyway.

The anime was two years ago. So I feel the ln just got more popular. It consistently sells 100k now so not really suprising for the votes to grow. Also Ayano and Kei are both special characters in their own right. He is not your good guy mc that won't do horrible things. For example, what he did to Karuizawa in vol 4 (I'm being vague since someone may wanna read it without being spoiled). Basically he can be more villainous than some antagonist in the story. While Kei went from a mob character to the main heroine status. Maybe that is the reason people jumped to vote for them cause they are different and interesting.

Nah, you're expecting readers to vote on logical deduction. By that logic, SAO in its prime with 400k volume sales would have crushed the competition.

But honestly, even with all the hypothesis we can make, it does seem that there's a lot more outrage this year regarding Mikoto's loss than anything else, even on 2ch.

But I do think my point holds some truth to it. Ayanokouji is completely different to any other character on the top 10 list. Which gives him popularity. Also this didn't come out of nowhere cause last two years he showed improvment in rank (#10->#4->#1).

Now for the outrage. Well to be completely honest it is understandable. I'm pretty sure most people expected her to win, so when she was not even close ,it was a huge shocker to everyone. Ginko got confessed to so a boost in votes is acceptable. But Karuizawa in my opinion is what is the main cause of the outrage. I mean even cote fans are suprised. Her arc ended nearly two years ago and she barely had any promotion recently. She at best had two scenes in last couple of volumes cause other heroines held the spotlight. If V11.5 was released before the poll closed, the reason would be same as Ginkos. But since it wasn't it is just a mystery on how the hell did she win and with this many votes.

Now what kind of mental gymnastics are the members of the cult doing?
