Yeah Coyote Tango for some reason has one pilot according to the official specs but Crimson Typhoon has three because it has three arms.

Out of curiosity, is Rinko Kikuchi's character Mako Mori like the only female pilot among the main cast?

No. One of the Russian pilots is a woman.

The Russian twins are non-identical male-female siblings.

The chest thing on Gipsy Danger is just a vent for its nuclear reactor.

It does have plasma guns in its arms though.

‘Pacific Rim’ Director Assures Audiences He’s Not A Michael Bay Copy Cat

Quote:
"We are far, far, far away from that in a very willing fashion," del Toro told THR. "For good or bad, this is my movie. This is my universe and my creation, and I do not create through comparison.”

The details about Del Toro’s “creation” have been mostly kept under wraps, but we do know that “Pacific Rim” revolves around a battle royale between the monstrous Kaijiu creatures and the man-made robot weapons called Jaegers, which were designed to defend against the Kaijiu.

"The fights don't occur in well-lit, supercool, car commercial-looking environments," del Toro said of the robot-vs.-monster battles in “Rim.” "They occur in the middle of a raging sea storm or in a savage snowstorm. They happen in a universe that is incredibly saturated."

Del Toro also mentioned the difference in the massive size of his ‘Bots - they are as tall as 25-story buildings - and joked that he’d put them up against any other cinematic machines that have come before them, saying that they would crush "robot in the history of mankind in a toe-to-toe showdown."
Bay got owned!

What's with the names anyways?
I can't imagine the Japanese ever naming their first super robot, not to mention the first super robot in the world, "Coyote Tango".

Same goes with US, I think it's kinda weird that US with their patriotic fervor would name their robot "Gypsy Danger" .

Maybe they're actually not names but reporting names ?

Oh wait, the first kaiju destroyed Osaka?
I finally get to see my home town get stepped on??

Because kaiju tend to love stomping on Tokyo every time, and not giving a hoot about the 2nd biggest metropolis.

I might be wrong but IIRC Godzilla and friends already stomped Osaka in one of his movies. I also remember some monsters from Ultraman, Ultraseven, or Ultraman Jack did it.
