@yami, yes, i do agree that Rune has been spending too much time with sempai, but i'm guessing sempai wasnt too much of an influence since they already think alike, Rune is after all sempai's doppelganger... *shudders* i suddenly scared myself with that thought...

Noticed something today while watching epi 17. When Lin is performing the ritual at the end it appears he's holding a sword. When I first saw it I assumed it was the same sword from the Urado arc but I chked vol 5 and in that he's not holding a sword. Am I seeing things? Did the anime add it? I have a screen but its not uploaded yet.

As stated in the anime thread, someone on Wiki said Lin was 25....I dont really believe that since his age has never been given. So while on irc yesterday, Aki (who's a LinFanGirl like honey) and I started discussing how old he was. Aki said she thinks he's 27 based on a small part of Heiki that Shadow transed for us a while back.

In the trans Madoka tells Mai that Lin is a grad student at Cambridge...here's the snippet..

"That's right. Headquarters are in London. The lab is in Cambridge. Lin's a research member in the lab in Cambridge and also a grad student at Cambridge University."

So based on that, Aki believes he's like 27ish... I dunno, Im still saying older but we still dont have a definite answer

Btw I did notice 1 big thing btwn vol 8 and the corresponding epis it covered. In the anime we all remember Bou-san asking Mai if the Naru showed her all that stuff in her dreams...which didnt make sense, since she's never told them about Naru in them. In vol 8 Mai goes into alot more detail about her dreams and in that same scene by the stones, Bou-san doesnt say anything about Naru...again Im crossing my fingers that the trans is correct so Im wondering why the anime did that?

The translation is correct with regards to Mai not mentioning Naru's presence in her dreams. When that episode aired, I shot off a quick email to Shadow asking her to check the Japanese manga. She wrote back that Mai does not mention Naru in that scene. Not in the manga; not in the book. I have no idea why the anime would add in that detail. Maybe someone in the script department simply got careless?

Deducing that Lin is around 27 because he's a graduate student is reasonable if you assume that he entered grad school immediately after undergraduate school. But there are lots of people that hold off going to grad school until later. It's a reasonable guess, but there are lot of factors that could invalidate it.

The bottom line is that there's so much about Lin that we don't know and would like to know. *sigh* Of course, that could be said about nearly all the characters other than Naru, Mai, and Naru's doppleganger.

Reading volume 8 reminded me again of one of the reasons I love GH. I love the fact that it's such a well-crafted mystery novel. (I'm treating all novels of the Evil Spirits series as if they were one single huge book at the moment.) Significant clues and information are subtly introduced into earlier chapter of the story. Only by knowing the ending, do you realize how important those little early information drops are.

Spoiler for post v9 revelations:

A great example of what I'm talking about occurs in volume 8. The scene is where Masako explains how the area feels strange to her. It's neither a good place nor a bad place; it feels like a Native American sacred ground she visited once. Mai is impressed that Masako has been to America. Masako replies that she's been there once while attending an exorcism conference held by the ASPR, the American Society for Psychical Research. Masako's comment explains why she's familiar with Native American sacred ground. But that little tidbit of information becomes so much more significant later on in the story that takes place following this one. However, it's not until you know the full Evil Spirits series that you realize just how important Masako's casual comment really is.

On a side note, I do have to wonder why a Native American sacred ground which is essentially an Indian burial site would feel all that different from a Japanese burial site. Shouldn't hallowed ground feel the same regardless of the religion or ethnicity?

Knowing how dense I am, if I didnt know what I already know, I probably wouldnt have thought anything of that scene

I so wish theyd have kept this in but obv there is only so much you can put into 22mins and the anime had also never covered Naru's trips before so why start now...still...
I think that opening few pages did alot to give subtle hints as too what goes on in and around the office. I think it was in Sensei's essay or maybe Shadow said it, about Mai not being allowed to answer the phone. I hadnt known that info before so it was nice to see if finally explained slightly.
Another small thing I liked was the comment made to Naru and the gang about the 3 mediums who had died already investigating the house. Kinda set you up that things werent gonna go there way to begin with.
