You are not making much sense here!

So, is Kyon's sister a simingly unknown character or a jugernaut? I mean, wasn't she the one who defeated Nerine?

Say wha-? I haven't seen Shuffle, but your claims made me go back and look at the bracket. Quite honestly, I think you're way off in calling the others seemingly unknown.

Let's take a look.

Kyon's Sister 850
Mashiro 703
Nerine 303

Ok, seriously, Kyon's sister and Mashiro are unknowns? Maybe you didn't watch Haruhi and Mai-Otome, but those were two pretty darn big shows, at least from a weeaboo fansub watching standpoint. Of the two, probably Kyon's sister had less than 30 minutes of screentime in total, and yet she stomped all over Mashiro.

Itou Nobue 385
Sakurada Nori 381
Shigure Asa 362

You've never heard of Ichigo Mashimaro? The trend setter of the lolicon manga genre? I'll certainly agree that Nobue-oneesan is far from the most moe character of the series, but still, she's pretty damn promenant in it. Then there's Rozen Maiden, another show I never watched, but it has a huge fanbase. Just look at how most of the dolls are slaughtering their opposition. They very nearly did in this one as well.

Rein 541
Sia 282
Amaha Masane 174

Finally a group I really know very little about, but I do know enough that Fushigiboshi no Futagohime is fairly high in cute loli-ish content that there's very little competition there and I think the results prove that. Whomever that Witchblade character is probably isn't the little girl I've seen from the series in so many pictures that have been posted to 4chan.

Finally, I think what really hurt the chances of the Shuffle girls is that the series aired nearly a whole year ago. Time passes, people forget and move on to other things. If anything, that's probably the main reason those 3 lost. They've been pushed aside by newer, cuter, and fresher girls. Sorry, that's just how it is.

I'm sorry, but you have this statement backwards. I know Shuffle is somewhat popular around here, but it's popularity is not as high as it might seem. Rozen Maiden has a much larger and more dedicated fanbase (and apparently, so does Ichigo Mashimaro, much to my surprise). And losing to a Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi girl should, at this point, be just about expected. Ultimately these are characters from better known series, not lesser known.
(Kareha FTW! My my my Asa-chan!)

And, for the record, Ichigo Mashimaro is enjoyable in a completely non-lolicon way - though I'm sure it's appeal is much greater if you happen to be a lolicon.

EDIT:

Of course, Mashiro is an annoying git through most of Otome - so that balances it out somewhat. The beautiful thing about imouto is she's never on screen long enough to get obnoxious, but she's around often enough to do cute things like this:

In addition to your (very good) point about how long ago Shuffle aired, let me also throw in (again) that _no_ anime based off of an ero-game has done well in the tournament this year with the exception of Fate/Stay Night. And even then, F/SN (the anime) has a lot more in common with Shakugan no Shana or Rozen Maiden then it does with Shuffle or DCSS.

How? You'd go through all this per-show voting, then watch Asa/Kaede/Nerine/whoever now lose by an even LARGER margin, because they would now only be facing THE MOST POPULAR characters from more popular series.

If Asa couldn't beat Nobue OR Nori, how do you think she'd fare against the most popular girl from Strawberry Marshmallow, Ana Coppola? Or one of the "big" dolls from Rozen Maiden, like Shinku, Suigintou, Suiseiseki, or Souseiseki? Nerine couldn't beat Imouto OR Mashiro - she couldn't even get 50% of the votes received by Mashiro, the SECOND place finisher. So how would Nerine do against Haruhi, Mikuru, or Yuki? Or Kaede against Eri or Yakumo from School Rumble?

Not to mention we'd be going thru rounds of narrow-appeal, low-turnout voting - because runoffs between a single show's characters wouldn't draw nearly as many votes per contest as we're getting now.

To follow along (and I think I'm heading to bed after this count):

As of the 700th:
Yakumo 442 (and some annoying spammers)
Mikuru 442 (and a cute ascii bunny-girl Mikuru serving coffee)
Mikuru made a biiiig push in the last thirty or so votes of the 600's.

Second: 601-700: Yakumo - 442(37); Mikuru 442(42)

EDIT: And to jump-start the Shana count on the bracket:

Shana through 600: 399
Nagisa through 600: 321

Shana through 700: 437
Nagisa through 700: 349

Thanks so much for your updates rooboy. You and Lackadaisical's efforts are greatly appreciated.

This truly is an intense battle. I sort of thought Yakumo would run away with it, but Mikuru is making a come back. I can't wait to see the final results tomorrow morning.

I would have let lackadaisical do them (I think his counts are more accurate then mine - tired eyes, and I'm getting old ), but I think he might have already headed off to bed. I agree it's going to be a morning to wake up to. When I counted the 600 series posts and saw that it was now tied I couldn't believe it (of course, the count's probably off somewhere - but it should be pretty close).

I actually have to write a poli-sci essay before bed, so if the 700's are done by then I'll throw in a count of those as well.

I think more and more people from asia are voting now. The posting seemed to have sped up, and it's now already at 750 posts.

I started with the anime - watched a couple of episodes of it, and found it pleasant enough to watch with the kids. I pre-screened all the eps beforehand, and they were fine.

The manga (it's actually a doujin, I think) is a different story. I stopped after about 2 or 3 pages - it was way too... creepy. Think Bratz-level little-girls-playing-adults stuff and throw in about a zillion panty shots. Yeesh...

Yakumo (through 800) 477 (35)
Mikuru (through 800) 492 (50)
Yes, you read that correctly - Mikuru picked up half of the 700's vote. Haruka actually received a fair number of votes as well.
Shana (through 800) 469 (32)
Nagisa (through 800) 377 (28)
And I'm pretty sure Kotona is picking up velocity (but because we haven't been counting her votes there's no way I'm going back to do it).

No, it's a manga (though I can't remember for the life of me where it was serialized - I think it might have been the same magazine that did Azumanga Daioh). I've never seen anything all that objectionable in the manga, but I might have missed it. I have fanservice blinders so I miss lots of stuff until someone else points it out. The anime (which is where I started as well) is all-ages friendly and flat-out hysterical. Though I remember watching it when it was being fansubbed and feeling a little creepy whenever some other people would discuss it.

I happened to find the manga in a shop when it was published in France. I myself questionned the point of releasing it here when it was hard enough to make the conservative side of the french population accept anime and manga as a part of the youth's culture since the late 1970s.

PS: this was from a first glance.

It's a manga. Going on 5 volumes. It's also licensed. There are doujins of course, which go in much more...adult directions.

There is one scene where we see Ana topless in the bath while Miu has this obsession with her being a little more developed. Other than that, I can't think of anything too edgy.

Go go Mi-mi-mikuru-ru-ru-rurun!

I actually enjoy the Ichigo Mashimaro manga more so than it's anime counterpart. If you ask me, the manga literally runs circles around the anime.

The anime is still super cool though.

Anyway, Mikuru seems to be doing fine, but I still worry about Nagisa. If SP fans are late voters, they better get their act together soon.

Ok, a little update from me before I go to bed.

I might have made a few mistakes here and there, but this is what I counted.

Yakumo (through 881) 509 (32)
Mikuru (through 881) 526 (34)

Well... Yakumo is winning, which is good
Mikuru's votes are steadily declining, which is bad
And Haruka has disappeared altogether from the contest

Bleh, I hate this match.

Yakumo is winning? Mikuru is currently leading! I may turn bald from the constant rollercoasting of their leads!
