Same sentiments as you are. Still, Takeshi and Emi beating Kousei at a piano competition isn't worth it in my opinion as Arima-kun is shaky due to his trauma.

That was an absolutely beautiful episode. At first I thought Emi and Crazy Hair would be antagonists, but they're actually both very nice people that have been deeply influenced by Arima and wish he would come back to their world. I particularly liked Emi's motivation. She wants Arima to go back to the way he was before his mother turned him into a robot. To go back to being a human player. Hopefully, he'll be able to show her that next week, but it's hard to predict what is going to happen.

I liked how they tried to animate pianists' motion correctly. Slightly disappointed in the performance chosen for Emi's Etude. I have heard some played with much more passion, live. Maybe I am asking too much, as my classical music standard was often described as impossibly high.

I have to believe that Kousei will be inspired and perform well next episode. If Kousei does not do well, then it will probably devastate Emi and Takeshi. I feel like his two rivals will just move on and end their story if Kousei does not well. I would not make sense for them to feel inspired to help him if he fails.

If he do it bad, then there is the frustration of seeing their one and only aspiration crash, making them feel irritated since they have surpassed him not by their talent(i wont deny that they have it), but because he is unable to be the one that they wanted, thus, leading to a more aggressive rivalry where they want him to reach them so the true battle can start. Thats how i see it.

How can there be a rivalry when they don't even interact with him out of competitions? They'll just be frustrated, and there is nothing they can do. They'll just feel disappointed and move on if that is the case.

However, if Kousei does well (not necessarily win), they can see that he's not all there yet and feel like the victory is cheap. Then they can be motivated more that way for the next opportunity.

Because if they see Arima fail, and fail hard at a level that will make you feel sorry for him (as in, he can't ever hear his own playing), they'll know that they didn't beat the guy that has been their main motivation for 2 years (especially Emi, who only started to play because of him), and that is a weight that is worse if Arima were to perform relatively well, because the guy they're chasing no longer exist (as far as they know, we as the audience know that Kaori will get him to play at his former level but in his style, not his mother's) and they will know that they were incapable of beating him, and now they've lost their chance... That is something that takes quite a bit to move on, enough for them to still be relevant to this story.

Lol, your comment seems to be indicating that Kousei is going to either fail or perform badly. I hope that is just me being oversensitive.....

lol... now I almost let Watari took Kaori away... looks like Emi deserved Kousei more than another girls

beautiful plays by two performers. Very breathtaking and intense.
The way both of them survived during these two years and finally satisfied after meeting Kousei is really deep.
Feeling sorry for both of them because they're going to rageflip after watching current Kousei
I just hope Kousei would at least play the score until the end considering he is playing without hearing his own music

Was referring to the interaction between the trio, as some above said, they would still be connected independent of the results

He once left with no indication he'd ever come back. For two years, they hadn't moved on.

Anyone know the name of the song they play as an insert song? The piano piece that isn't a classic. The piece starts from 3:55 on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_Ir9vGVTFY

Emi is definitely my favorite girl/character from the series now. A great finishing performance. I can't say the same for what Arima has got going on so far though. I mean, his past bites back again with his thoughts...

On another note, it would of been funny if she actually "confessed" to Arima right there. It's the same as the manga though so I didn't expect it.

dang, guess its going to be a thorny road for Arima to get over his trauma.
Wonder if SSJ and Saori Hayami will interact with him more deeply or will just see him @ competitions.

Goddammit, the cliff hangers are always a pain.

How cool would it if Arima totally bombs his performance, but Takeshi and Emi come to the rescue and become his mentors. I'd like that.

they explained it an episode or two ago
part of its envy of talent.

and also many see music as an expression of emotion, and if you just play like a machine, it removes that emotion.
