Let's start from about 14 and a half minutes into the episode...
Earlier there was a subplot about the guys sort of "peer pressuing"
Otani into getting Koizumi a gift since one of the other guys got his
girl a ring. Otani was not pleased of course. But there's more on
this later.
From what I can tell, Risa's friends give her a birthday party. Due to a
misunderstanding between Otani and Risa he does not attend. She's
happy her friends have gone all out to get her a big spread of food, a
cake with strawberries and gifts galore it's a little tiny bit sad because
the guy she likes isn't there. Eventually they adjourn to the roof of the
school to watch fireworks.
She's up there and her happy face starts to fall realizing that all of the
couples are happy at the top of the school watching the fireworks...
oh no, not more crying and on your birthday too? She starts to
reminisce of things Otani has said to her.
Then someone texts her on her phone at 17:21 into the ep.
She turns around and there's a figure in the shadows, Otani.
She sneaks over to him without her friends noticing
He's acting kind of strange. He presents her with a birthday gift, a
necklace with a pendant of the rabbit that seems to re-occur in just
about every episode (it's on her purse, it's the rabbit that bit the
other rabbit on the ear at the end of the episode where Maity was
goading Otani, it's been on bulletin boards and buildings and buses
in the city they live in, etc.).
She reacts loudly with Kawaii! and a bunch of other stuff and he
quiets her down quickly, he's being quite cagey and quiet.
They talk a while, I'm not quite sure what was said but he relayed
his embarassment of buying the necklace and all the women in the
store were grinning at him (18 mins 56 seconds) and Risa just smiles
and thanks him.
Here's where things surprise a bit: he sort of shrinks into himself and
at around 19:30 tells her what he said when she fell asleep after the
basketball tournament. Then:
He says "Koizumi" and she says "huh?" and he
kisses her suddenly
and instead of her being happy about it she's just in total shock and stares
straight ahead.
She reacts a bit oddly and he seems taken aback. THEN:
Then he gets a serious look on his face and grabs her hand.
The next shot is of them kissing passionately for quite a while!
You hear her thoughts thinking something to the effect of "am
I dreaming?"
And meanwhile her friends keep watching the fireworks, oblivious.
It's petty much a given that they are a couple now, for now unless
someone splits them up or they devolve into the bickering they sometimes
degenerate to.
For once Otani is honest about his feelings and Lisa's hopes are fulfilled.
How long can it last?
Also, how will Nobu react?
