"All things eventually come to an end" - one of the things that I learned from YKK two years ago.
If that's true, let's just hope that it's the author's own decision and that it would be given some kind of closure. Since the first season covered up to volume 5 of the manga, perhaps the remaining material would be enough for another season?

Even more important... just how is it going to end? Mushishi may have a continuous story, but it's also rather episodic in nature.
Is it just going to be a story encapsulating the overall theme of everything that has come to pass, after which Ginko journeys on to the next village just like always, or will it be something more lasting and final? |

I want this to be the final chapter. Or even better, a Bangaihen ala Emma of at least 2 volumes. Or even better, a second/spin off series, ala the Kino series.

Sometimes writers grow tired of their own creations and feel a need to move away from them, if not end the story. It's a natural part of the creative process. The writer has outgrown her characters and feels a need to explore other possibilities. That's something to celebrate, in my opinion. For example, Ursula Le Guin wrote The Farthest Shore thinking it would be the last Earthsea novel she'd write, but she returned 20 years later with Tehanu. It contained new ideas and a new style of writing that I enjoyed.
Mushishi is one of those stories I don't feel a particular need for closure. Ginko is a wanderer, and I'm content to imagine him wandering for all time. |

Hence my wish to see a new or spin off series.

*Agrees totally*
I'll be waiting for that stroke of genius that rounds up all that we've seen of this fantastic universe within a single short story. And no way would Tanyuu get a Bad End. Urushibara isn't one for epic lulz. I hope. |

Plausible, but so bitter it's not even sweet. I doubt that possibility, as said. |

Oh well, she definitely needs an heir to the Mushi she has, so I won't be surprised if Urushibara actually gives her one the next time Ginko sees her, since we need some form of resolution to her story as well... Meh, no way would such a mundane plot thread come up in such an extraordinary manga. Let's leave it to the artist shall we? |

See i don't think we actually do. If the last chapter for the manga is simply just another Mushishi story, then that means Urushibara is leaving Tanyuu's fate to our Imagination. Sure i'd rather see Tanyuu's story end in the manga, and i like to believe Urushibara knows that's what a huge collection of her fanbase wants to see.
Also i'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. Enough material now for a second season?

Well all good things must come to an end. As for an ending for Mushishi I think the idea with Tanyuu is a very welcoming ending in my opinion. However if it is just another normal story I'd be satisfied with that too because I can never really hate Mushishi. I just can't bring myself to hate it.
