Personally, I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer so we have more material for a longer anime (and we don't get the 'classic' episodes mixed in). Looking forward to the OOO though, although Sorachi could just put something like "I'm a troll," maybe it is アニメ.

Do we know yet if Sorachi's writing it or if it's anime-original?

That flyer advertising the anime special was emphasizing the fact that it's a "limited return" an awful lot... I wouldn't put it past that animation team to dedicate the entire episode to the fact that they're lying and a new season is in the works.

History time:
The new character's supposed to be Takasugi's puppet... What are the chances that we're witnessing the beginnings of Gintama's version of the Meiji Restoration? I did a bit of wiki-ing (definitely not a Japanese history virtuoso), and Tokugawa Iemochi (who the shogun's based on) dies early and is succeeded by Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun who resigns after one year and "went into retirement, and largely avoided the public eye for the rest of his life." Kind of suspicious...

If so, we might expect to see Sakamoto popping in too.

You know I was thinking Hattori giving the Shounen Jump to Gintoki and telling him to give Sarutobi some of his advice in Chapter 502 felt a bit of a death flag. Then I thought to myself no one ever dies in Gintama anyway so I was just imagining things but now I can't help but wonder.
