Well, that makes sense inasmuch as almost that entire trailer is excerpts from the mini-live-action film for EoE, which got cut from the released movie and only later released as an extra.

(If you read a transcript like http://www.evaotaku.com/html/alteva.html or find a copy of the video online, it actually makes a fair amount of sense as a more realistic version of the 'alternate universe' we saw in the TV ending.)

Yeah, I saw that quite a few years ago...

But I think you're missing my point. People who saw that trailer (like me) in '97 were not really prepared for EoE. So I think people complaining now that the "Piano Trailer" doesn't prepare them for 3.0 are not looking at it with the proper focus.

lol, if I wanted to take it that far I would've spouted something with 3DPD and waifu's in it

While it is an interesting take, the original character designs have just been too ingrained to give anything else a worthwhile chance sadly enough. Maybe if they did something similar with the Angels, then it could've been a different story lol

That'd be incredibly silly because this is also a drawing, that while detailed is still really quite stylized in a cartoon fashion

Whatever he wanted in the original no longer applies to Rebuild. Now it's all about moe moe Rei, and tsundere Asuka Shikinami. He has become a sell out.

It's an interesting translation between styles. The artist got the basics right: Rei's basic character design is made out of rectangles and triangles and the childish features work.

Shame he or she messes up on perspective and proportioning, the right side looks deformed.
