I have a new found respect for Iguchi Yuka after listening to the ending song. Shes almost always uses that bratty voice so I kinda typecast her into a one voice seiyuu. But boy, was I surprise to hear her sing in a normal voice and actually doing quite a decent job at it too

You obviously haven't watched Sankarea and Mayo Chiki; Iguchi Yuka has proven herself to be very versatile for a long time.

Yeah, in Mayo Chiki you can't even tell that the lead girl is the same voice as Index.

One last post for off-topic,

I count her as having four types of voices;

Index/Tsukihi/Mizuno as 'Normal girly'
Maria/Maho as 'bratty'
Mero as 'deadpan'
Konoe as 'boyish'

I actually have watched those. For me, I can always manage to pick out her voice work almost instantly since she mostly uses the same kinda voice with slight variations in delivery. But with with the ending song, I couldn't even tell it was her.

Here's a preview for the coupling track to the LE/RE (non-anime versions) ED single, stand still.

[mod edit: moved from the Episode 4 thread]

I don't think the really happy upbeat OP is going to work with the rest of this arc though. I didn't think about it until now but it will really clash with the storyline.

Just because the content is darker, doesn't mean EVERYTHING needs to be moody =_=

Every Railgun/Index opening is upbeat, despite how gloomy the particular plotline. OP/ED has no effect to me on the mood here, but if they throw in non-manga slice-of-life Saten scenes during the next few episodes, that would definitely spoil it. :P

I'm not saying it needs to be gloomy just a little less "happy go lucky".

How is it happy go lucky? It's essentially a techno song.

Does being a techno song mean it can't be happy go lucky?

Said OP also has numerous scenes of various high-powered people trying to murder each other. I don't think we're in danger of losing the mood.

But those scenes don't have that kind of a tone because of the music. The whole thing still comes off as very uplifting and cheerful.

*watches the OP again* Mmm... no. Sorry. The music could be described as intense, energetic, high powered, fast, or any similar such things, but not really uplifting and cheerful. It's not depressing, but that doesn't make it automatically uplifting. If you want to hear an uplifting and cheerful OP from this season, go watch Yuyushiki's OP.

Railgun S' OP is suited for an action-oriented season, which, unless I miss my guess, is what this is going to be. It is not strongly oriented towards either dark or light.

That's one perspective.

While the song is technically upbeat, personally I don't feel it's uplifting, and much less cheerful. Not gloomy either, but there's some anxiety on the voice.

Adding the lyrics, I would say it's hopeful in a tense situation.

My guess is they were trying for a middle ground, while keeping fripSide's style as best within the song's intention.

Once again, this is just my opinion, but I feel the ending song is more cheerful than the opening... and fairly less tense.

Intense and energentic is uplifiting. And I already said that it doesn't need to be depressing.

There's no way you watched that and didn't get a cheerful tone from it.

There's no way you really believe your point of view is universal.
