Hopefully he will win. But if he does not, I think it's acceptable for Souma to lose in the first round because he's against the worst possible opponent.

Matter not, Megumi is still in the tournament. The protagonist always being invincible is pretty cliche so we need some fresh ideas.

Megumi is nice enough and all but her fights are boring and I have no interest in reading about them if they're the mainstay of the tournament arc.

Out of all the weekly manga I'm reading, Shokugeki no Souma's art is by far the best. It looks absolutely stunning. I'm very impressed a weekly manga can be so detailed. The character design is fantastic as well, each character look beautiful. Toshi has improved a lot since his doujin days.

That a even better way of making people want to drop this manga. Using power of love or love conquer all by Megumi is clichest of the cliché, I don't want my Shokugeki to become like that. I swear if Soma lose and Megumi make in the tournament further, I'm dropping Shokugeki right now.

I doubt there is any chance about Souma losing. In this tournament he has both, people he wants to beat and people that wants to beat him (none of those is Megumi, of course ). As per rule of the shounen style, there is no way that's going to end in nothing, he is going to have some strong face offs.

I'm looking forward to Alice aide's reaction after the match. And of course there is the question of on how hard is Alice going to fall for Souma without him realizing it

I doubt it will happen, the manga is very realistic since the beginning.
Megumi has 88 (the lowest score of 8 candidates) using the method "I think the most important person when I'm cooking". At best she could pass the first round but It's the talent that will make the difference in the final tournament.

The protagonist always being invincible is pretty cliche so we need some fresh ideas.

The only time he won it was against Nikumi, for the moment he is just a badass loser

Actually, I hate those so-called "rules" so much. They usually prevent the story from developing to an more interested way, make it so boring and predictable. I hope Shokugeki no Soma won't be affected by them.

There is a big difference between someone winning and someone losing; Souma has lost quite a few matches, but only if you put it into the context of not placing first.

Each time he fails to be at the top of the pile he takes it as an opportunity to learn. Against his father, against the Elite Ten member to save Megumi, the Curry Challenge; his first in school challenge he was 'dismissed' before the chairman deliberately saved him. Souma has lost a lot. What makes this enjoyable to read is that he rarely follows the stereotypical shounen path of wallowing in self-pity until someone drags him out of it. He takes it as a challenge to do better next time. It's more entertaining to read that way and he feels more like a protagonist to 'root for' rather than get exasperated by.
