But, Asahina-san wouldn't sound the same without a loli moe~ voice.

The problem is, the voice is TOO young for her looks! I don't mind if she looks lolita AND have that voice, that way I'll hate her; Or remain who she looks like AND have a more mature voice, that way I will love her. Either of them but not in the middle. Now I'm torn apart to love her looks but hate her voice. After all, they're in high school, and should have reached puberty alreadys. Even in the light novels they only mention she got a cute look not a lolita VOICE!

Good lord... I've lost count of the women I've met that sound like that ... ya know... grown women? in their 30s and 40s grown? (yes, most of them were asian). Its the size of the pipes... small women just tend to have higher-pitched voices on average.

Ah well.. more for me and less for you then

Well it's true, age doesn't really have an absolute corrolation with a woman's voice, especially Asian women. I don't know if it is a physical trait, or just has to do with vocal characteristics from Eastern languages, but when they scream or moan it tends to be higher pitched than you'd expect.

I personally find Mikuru to be adorable. Her character just wouldn't be the same without that voice. Her combination of looks, voice and personality, make the situations she gets into simultaneously sad hilarious and... hot.

I'm really getting into the story now, and I can't wait for the next episode.
I'm realling getting curious about the relationship between Kyon and Haruhi.

Mikuru's voice is "too much" for me. It blows right through "cute", doesn't even slow down for "vulnerable", and goes square into "stupid" territory.

I love this episode. It made me laugh so hard the whole episode especially when Yuki's in action. The animation quality is superb like usual. I think the the story is well developed. Eventhough it jumps from novel point of view, it doesn't give me weird feeling. 10/10 definitely ^^

Edit: I can't wait for the next episode. I'm so curious about the tootpick XD

stupid animation loop. that was the only bad point. everything else was fantastic

That one group has released a fansub for ep4.

I anticipate a flood of new interest in this topic as people start watching the translated version ^^

(Cries as there's no way for me to d/l the sub for another 7hrs.)

I had a hard time trying to get onto the forum earlier on today for some reason... anyways.

Yuki really did steal the show in ep4 as previously mentioned. Alot of people have been relating Shinjin to the giants in Naushiica, EVA and whatnot on top of our not-to-distant talk w. crossovers. Hehe...

Got the subs already
Great episode! As I've stated before, the two cutscenes in the middle added to the sci-fi mystery aspect that was introduced last week. Also the banter between Itsuki and Kyon about the batting signals were great! Definately complimented Haruhi's monkey-dancing well

I wonder how long it'll take before Haruhi catches onto Mikuru's slipups

This epsiode was almost as good as the first. I could see how people not at least somewhat familiar with the story could be a bit lost at first though. Once I get all the episodes, I'll try rewatching in the order Haruhi recommends in the next episode previews. This series gained a few points, and is now in 5th place on my favorites list. (Making two of the top 5 KyoAni series.)

While I agree Yuki was great in this episode, the interaction between Mikuru, Haruhi, and kyon was what did it for me. Not to mention the extreme levels of moe Mikuru generated while attempting to play baseball. Overall it gets a 9 from me.

*lol*

Now with the subs filling in the gaps left by the raw-watching, I'd like to upgrade my verdict from 8 to 9 (and I tend to give very careful ratings)

What a great, great show.

So next episode should go back to where episode 3 left off.

Episode 2 and 3 were named "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I and II."

Episode 4 was named "The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya"

Episode 5 is named "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya III"

So those who think they jumped into the future shouldn't worry, it looks like some holes will be filled
