That is surprising, a 14 year old chain smoker.

Well, it's surprising to see it in an anime, anyhow.

Is it any stranger than a chain smoking adult loli?

I think Styl being 14 is a spoiler, I know I was surprised and thought it was connected to a plot-point somewhere. Should we really be saying it so casually? :?

...

Anyway, I like this guy. Like Touma, he adds an interesting angle to the Index story, one that hasn't been fleshed out - a stern, all-business adult on the outside, but a kid on the inside. He acts a bit tsundere as well, how strange.

I also love how he summons that Dark Archon Innocentius all the time. Thoughts in chaos!

Normally, by his first appearance in the novel, it was already revealed he was 14. The anime didn't bother to reveal it then like the manga didn't, so it probably won't ever. Not really a spoiler...

That's definitely stranger, but I was thinking more along the lines of having someone underage smoking. Just from my personal experience, I've seen tendencies to not have such things in anime at all, (ridiculous stuff like minors getting drunk off of fanta/juice since they can't have them drinking alcohol) so I was a bit surprised. Might just be my inexperience, though, and I don't want to derail the thread too much with this.

There's no scene that shows that he doesn't smoke. He might die of lung cancer.

Well as they say... "They don't grow old, they die young."

Would there be any rational explanation for Styl's age not really corresponding with his appearance?

No, it's just like Komoe. The author thought it would be interesting/attract readers, so she did it. Just like plenty of other anime characters.

*digging up ancient thread*

In Episode 2, Stiyl uses a spell which my sub translates as "Squeamish Bloody Rood". However, the direct translation of what he says would be something like "Vampire-killing Crimson Cross". Index Wiki also calls it "Vampire-killing cross".

Is Squeamish Bloody Rood some kind of official translation? If not, where does it come from?

Well the word for Vampire in Japanese literally means blood sucker.

Lol, 'Squeamish Bloody Road' is in fact, the official english name of that spell. To be exact,

"Ash to Ash, Dust to Dust, Squeamish Bloody Rood!"

However, you are right that the direction translation is "Vampire-killing Crimson Cross".

Still, someone might want to change the wiki...

Probably why they didn't reveal his age in the anime.

I thought with just one rune Innocentius will appear but later I read that using more runes Innocentius will be more stronger, thats true?

If you're referring to that scene in volume 7, then yeah apparently.

Though Stiyl has always used more than one rune, so maybe there's a minimum?

actually, it's not the runes, it's the amakusa creating a magical circle that empowers innocentius...

btw: i've known plenty of 12-13 years old around 1.90-1.95 meters tall...Stiyl's height isn't all that strange, and i was a chain smoker myself at his age...so yeah...

no styl did say that the more runes the stronger inocentius can get but that inocentius in vol 7 is phenomenal that even if he spent his lifetime can't understand it clearly. So it just meant that the inocentius their is SUPA strong! that's all. But his magic clearly depend on the number of runes.

no, i meant, the innocentius back then is that powerful because of the amakusa, rather than the number of runes...the number of runes does make it stronger, but it's the amakusa's circle that makes the difference...

No, he did use the trinity to lower the most said strain in order to resist Index's barrage. Also, he already said fighting her one-on-one is just plain stupid.
