Actors and seiyuu are struggling financially from event cancellations, from a survey this week of Japan Actors Union members.

Among the 523 respondents,
- 75.7% had not been paid for any cancelled performances
- 52.3% have depleted their savings & 26.3% have had to take on debt
Oof. That's rough. I hope something can be done, assuming conditions don't improve

yeah no. Seiyuu cannot do professional work unless they have studio grade equipment and soundproof room. not to mention sound quality over the internet.

It seems some of them have started doing Youtube videos as a stopgap measure.

Like i said, If the equipment is adequate enough, Many current era youtuber easily have studio grade equipments, they aren't that rare and pricy compare to 5 years ago, and Seiyuu work also involved podcast, etc... Which can circumvent enough. It is still hard, but still doable. The majority still don't have it, but imagined that those who have channel on youtube or do streaming have relatively good equipment.

Actor is clearly the one who have worse hit, since if they are filming drama or series, it is on hiatus and god know if it get shorten and even cancelled. One of the actor in Super sentai got corona and the entire show is on hiatus. It mean nothing even if they have good equipment or not. The only hope for actors at this point is hoping that pre filmed part is enough to cover them for the duration of quarantine.

@erneiz_hyde: seem like it, i think many of them already have a youtube channel already though this certainly push it way more. But aren't you have to sign a contract with youtube to receive the money ? I don't do video but I heard that there is some kind of contract with Youtube for creators

The equipment to record high quality audio at home is surprisingly cheap. The issue might be reducing unwanted echo and reverb in the room you're recording but thankfully that's basically hanging a few drapes in front of a flat surfaces.

It's not going to be perfect but you can go a long way with post, especially if you already start with a decent mic and capture card combo.

I think recording from home might prove to be the future of voice acting across the world as things currently stand.

Dunno what people talk around here but my favorite voices/actors in accordance with the performance given in their respective anime, are of the following characters:

3. Soi Fon - Bleach
4. Phantom Miria - Claymore
5. Theresa of The Faint Smile - Claymore
6. Claire - Claymore
7. Zane Truesdale - Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - english dubb
8. Becky - Little Princess Sara
9. Aizen - Bleach (why doesn't he have 2 names? o.o)
10. Ichimaru Gin - Bleach
11. Ulquiorra Cifer - Bleach
12. Vegetta - Dragon Ball - english dubb
13. Kojiro Hyuga - Captain Tsubasa - german dubb
14. Aoshi Shinomori (The Leader) - Rurouni Kenshin - english dubb
15. Hajime Saito (Wolf of Mibu) - Rurouni Kenshin - english dubb
16. Tier Hallibel - Bleach
17. Sajin Komamura - Bleach
18. Seto Kaiba - Yu-Gi-Oh! - english dubb
19. Uchiha Itachi - Naruto
20. Lala the "eternal doll" - D.Gray-Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbiFSfj_BcA
21. Brook - One Piece - when he sings (spoiler): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUyNC4eY3Fc

Where there is no specification of dubb, it's obviously the japonese original.

While everyone is sitting home Yuuki Aoi decided to read children books for people and published the records online. She also inspired some fellow seiyuus to join her:

Aoi has such a rich voice. It's rare to hear female seiyuu with her low-pitched range. Still she can kick in her little-girl voice when she needs it like in her performance linked above.

Definitely. He had a lot of memorable roles, and based on the reactions of many younger voice talents, he was also both a good friend and a mentor to them.

Thats way too soon to go. I have heard him since as far as back there in the late 90s.

Indeed - he was known as being a great sempai. I saw him at the HxH event at Jump Festa in '12 or '13 and it was clear he was a father figure to the rest of the main cast.

Han Megumi tweeted that Fujiwara put "Nice Forehead" in the subject line of every email he sent her.

I remember him going on hiatus a few years back for health problems and he definitely worked a lot less since then, but that news still came out of nowhere for me. He was a legend, with many memorable roles under his belt and a very distinctive voice. RIP.

My playthrough of the FFVII remake which I just started will be all the more special after this.
