I'm not going to lay this one at Mari Okada's feet. She's only credited for screenwriting, so I imagine she was hired by diomedea and Pony Canyon to flesh out their "original work." There's only so much you can do if your employers give you a bad idea to start with.
Speaking of bad ideas, wasn't there a road leading to the village that the bus was heading down? Why not just use the road to go down the mountain instead of getting lost in the forest? Eh. |

Nah. Anyway what's really useless in survival situations is spoiled or incompetent people... or generally people without a pertinent skillset. For example that would make the entire cast of this anime, without any gender distinction (with the possible exception of Speedstar).

So glad that those guns are not real, that sure brings back some realism into the series.
And then there are other things like strange voices, resurrect dead people and strait roads that lead in circles. So it is either an afterlife kind of thing or Silent Hill kind of thing. I am voting for Silent Hill as it is much more fun. I though of hallucinogenic substance as well but it just doesn't add up to resolving things. And I am glad that some of them still has some brain power left and are listening to Donald Trump advice. Next episode will continue killing, you could see that from the name of the next episode. And did that Jack person died? He seems just to have disappeared but not confirmed as dead. And lastly, and seriously ( like vaden said ) why the hell didn't they just followed the original road toward bridge? |

If this is copying the nature of Silent Hill then it's not exactly doing a very good job of it.
At this point since we're already considering the presence of the supernatural, all bets and pretty much off.

Bah, swing and a miss. It's Judgeness or whatever his name is that kicked the bucket. Pretty dumb way to die as well... seems like there's no rhyme or reason on who dies next. Well at least the episode title hints that it may be one of the Yuuna's turn, but who? I honestly can't differentiate between any of them. Maybe all three?
And why the heck did Masaki start crying? Heck, when did she even get back with the group? On top of giant Mitsumine, too many questions does this episode ask. I guess for as 'stupid' this show is, it's still intriguing, so at least it has that going for it. Quote:
I have a hunch since last episode that Jack's real reason to come was to shadow Maimai, so I'm actually glad he broke out of the prison to follow the group. I really doubt he broke out of jail just to exact his revenge on Judgeness; after all if Jack REALLY wanted to kill him, Jack would do it while he was asleep the night before the group set out to try and leave. No, there must be some other reason as to why he'd break out of jail then, and the shipper in me says its because of Maimai.

I'm betting on hallucinations too so far since all these people were seeing those who were on their mind (I guess). Ketsu saw Jack (while others didn't), driver saw his daughter (pretty sure that those three didn't see her) and Maimai saw a giant Mitsumune (while we still haven't heard about the others' opinions and I'm sure that they'll vary).
Also there's definitely something suspicious about the way Masaki speaks/acts. Oh and BTW this latest episode wasn't written by MariOkarta. |

A dead girl and a giant mitsumune? I still can't figure out where this is headed, Although..
It might turn out to be some kind of airborne spore/chemical thing that makes people hallucinate, and why the village was erased from the maps and also made the former inhabitants crazy (very recently according to the state of the vegetable patch they found), but that's just my speculation based on what was shown so far. Looks like one of the yuunas will be the next to go, I'm trying to remember which of them is the most unremarkable but so far all 3 have been unremarkable, except maybe for the loud one. Didn't the driver see someone or something when he was left with the bus? Isn't that why he came with them to the village? Was it just because of the ghost/hallucination, and not because somebody approached him and told him to go to the village? So many questions.. Oh and at the rate we're going (2 missing persons in 4 episodes) by the end of the last episode most of the cast will still be alive

Some interesting things happened in this episode. Jack escaped, by the looks of his jail being opened. The group has split off, which allows them to see more of the surroundings, but it is not leading them anywhere. As everyone was running out of the tunnel screaming, that meant that they all saw something at the same spot and same time. They can't be hallucinating different things in the same spot and time, so Giant Mitsumune really was there.
The daughter died 10 years ago, and the girl he saw looks too young. She is either a hallucination or a ghost. From what I can guess so far, the sounds of those beasts might be the remnants of the villagers. These original villagers wanted to be away from civilization for a reason. When they found out that outsiders were coming, they probably abandoned the village. There is also probably some toxic chemicals in the area, which caused the villagers to lose their minds or turn them into monsters.

Are we even sure Hyoketsu no Dumbness is gone for good? I mean, perish the thought of me actually missing him, but we didn't exactly get to see a body. Then again, that's something in common with Yottsun (curious how an episode titled "Yottsun's drowning" actually didn't even give us one more glimpse at his supposed corpse...).

I'm with Hyoketsu being gone though, 3 eps in and I quickly tired of his chuuni antics, especially when he set off Jack. |

This episode reminds me of Silent Hill but with crazy characters.
Mitsumune, the kid, is such an idiot. He became obsessed with Misaki simply because she complimented his name? That girl definitely knows something, but when she suggested they remain in the village, an alarm bell went off. As of now, only Lion seems the most sane. Someone suggested they may all already be dead and this is like The Others where their spirits are trapped in an area. But if they are already dead, then how are they still dying?

So after those craziness in last episode Mitsumune and Tsundere girl just went "Daijobou" with Lovepon? Do we need to call that plothole? or the panic because saw drowned man just justify it?
So to say, Mayoiga is not among the best but definitely ones of most entertaining in this season |

Whether supernatural phenomena or controlled narcotic/illusion, someone or something is definitely playing with them, and it seems to be at least somewhat intelligent. Those sounds seem to come with great timing, suggesting to me that there's a degree of intent behind them to perhaps herd the people when they're going somewhere they shouldn't. And clearly, whatever it is it's not actually physically appearing in front of them, it's simply taking whatever's on an individual's mind and playing it back on a large scale. If a person's worried about a monster in the forest, they'll hear a loud roar; if they think a crime's been committed they'll hear a loud siren. If a guy's worried about getting away from a criminal he'll wind up seeing that criminal chasing after him, and if a cute little tsundere can't stop thinking about a guy who pushed all the right buttons for her, then she'll wind up seeing a giant version of him blocking the path out. It's clear, however, that whatever is doing all this doesn't want anyone to get too far from the village. The exit's been blocked by fear, so to speak.
Additionally, I suspect the 8 they found on that tree wasn't Nyanta's 8. Koharun didn't make that map she just has it, so it stands to reason someone else would know the map and be able to guess where they'd go, in which case it wouldn't be so difficult to hurry ahead and place that number on the tree, making it look like they'd gone around in circles. They were using a compass much of the way and marking their path, so planting that fake marker seems much more likely than them actually looping back on themselves. BTW, I do not think Jack was actually there. The first one to spot Jack was the guy who'd almost gotten sliced and was probably partly trying to get away to get away from him. This would make him fit with the other hallucinations. Once the guy mentioned Jack, everyone's thoughts went to Jack and they saw what they were looking for. People seem to see the same thing if someone mentions what they see or they're all expecting the same thing (like after seeing claw marks), but when no one says anything they all see what they expect to see or what's on their minds. |

I agree that their food supply/water source could be tainted causing hallucinations. It could be environmental depending on what happened at the site previously. The site previously had electricity and semi-modern public phone so something "bad" must have happened to the village in the past. Like maybe the village was near a secret experiment facility that got destroyed. Perspective of events will shift when you have more evidence and scientific understanding. Don't know what's up with "Giant Mitsumune" (could be a hallucination) but I wouldn't have dropped the flashlight.

It's becoming increasingly likely this series has supernatural elements. If that turns out to be the case, I'll be a little disappointed. It's more fun to see a bunch of nutcases kill each other than seeing them influenced into killing by an unknown entity.
