Who knows? We have two episodes left, maybe Okabe will pull a Heroic Sacrifice and shift the timeline to a place where he's dead, but Kurisu and Mayuri both live.

The problem is that he seems to be protected by that Attraction field that prevent him from dying until way later. My bet is that if he tried, either Mayuri or Kurisu would do the sacrifice themselves.

In Beta world line, wasn't John Titor supposed to appear in 2001?
But now, we find Amane Suzuha in 2010, calling Okarin to help her preventing WW3.
Time Machine supposedly can only travel back in time, that's why Suzuha decided to visit 2010 to find her father before going to 1975 in Alpha world line.
Assuming we're now in the same world line as the first episode (probably with minor deviation in divergence number), I guess Suzuha traveled back to 2010 first to warn Okarin about the WW3, then went to 2001 to do something which is most likely related to WW3?

I liked how they copied the game and interrupted the credits this episode. Too bad they didn't animate the drama CD...

Where Feyris talks about how their fathers met and then manages to persuade Kurisu to get back to the lab before Okabe erased the log.

Otherwise the series has been very faithful so far.

Er I thoroughly hated that drama CD I'm so glad they didn't include any materials from it in the anime, it seriously screws up Kurisu's character (not to mention another someone else). Even then the CD was designed to be listened to AFTER someone knows the true ending as it completely changes the mood of the show at that point in time if you don't know the ending from one of a bitter-sweet/depressing one to a happy-hopeful one, which is just wrong on so many levels.

It's not that I don't like happy scenarios, it is that I want consistency in my story. The drama didn't do that because:

In the game/anime, you get the feeling of despair at that moment where Kurisu and Okabe thinks that they would never meet again, which is a perfectly good reason itself for Kurisu to go back to try to tell Okabe how she really feels because that would be her last chance. Also the conversations between Okabe and Kurisu in the game we know for a fact that Kurisu herself doesn't believe the multi-verse explanation because there was no evidence for it and that it was just her "crazy idea" (literally "妄想" in the game), and Kurisu isn't a person that believes in things without evidence. So from those we are supposed to feel that Kurisu was merely making up comforting words to lessens the guilt that Okabe feels as to convince him to go back to Beta line and save Mayuri. For her to suddenly feel hopeful that she would meet Okabe in another timeline/world line because of that little bit of back story between her father and Feyrius father as written in the drama just clashes with everything we've had up to that point in time in the story about the characters and what they were discussing previously.

Oh and don't get me started on how they try to white-wash Kurisu's father in the drama too.

Yes, the usual rational Kurisu would be like that but...

But it wasn't because of her love for Okabe that gave her hope though - I would actually believe THAT if they just left it there, it was supposed to be because her father had a present for her which he never gave her that he left at Feyris place many years ago, and the tape left at Feyris with him talking to Feyris' bulter about how he supposedly felt he had hurt Kurisu and never made up with her that gave her hope that maybe her father still loved her. Combined with the talk from Feyris we supposed to be led to believe all of that gives Kurisu hope that things would turn out all right, yet at the same time we also know that just a day ago Kurisu had rang her father (in front of Feyris no less) and he completely rejected her, not to mention we also know that her father would actually want to/managed to kill her. It's really hard to believe that if her father really cared about her, he wouldn't have abandoned her and not contact her for 7 freaking years. None of THAT makes any sense and simply wasn't convincing enough to make one believe that would make Kurisu hopeful. It was just very poor writing. They tried way too hard to make things tie together neatly and also make Kurisu's father sympathetic, but it all blew up in their face IMO.

In the drama CD Xcomp and I are discussing about they tried REALLY hard to recon him as a good person and a caring father whom was once really proud of his daughter's intellect.

But when Kurisu got smart and old enough and thoroughly ripped apart his thesis on time travel he broke and said nasty things to Kurisu, supposedly even though he said those things he was secretly sorry that he did and wished he could make things up to her and even regretted that that he couldn't give her a fork (look what they are trying to do) that he bought her as a present for her birthday (which Feyris' bulter somehow recorded this conversation with him), or even wish that he could invent a time machine to go back in time to redo things, but like I said it just doesn't fly when Kurisu went to America for 7 years yet during that time he never made any effort to make up with her, and we all know the reason why he contacted Kurisu in present time was because he wanted to gloat to her about his "new" thesis on time travel. There's just no mistake that right now Kurisu's father is a very sick and twisted man, and no amount of "he used to be a good person" could change that but the drama kept trying to shove that image down the listener's throat. In my eyes the drama script was all sorts of fail and they should have just left things as it was.

Well, perhaps Nakabachi really did regret it back then (which explains the present and recorded words of regret) but, over the 7 years he grew into a hateful old man and that's why he never tried to make up.

I guess they were trying to show he hasn't always despised Kurisu but the hate grew in him as she made better progress than he did.

As for Kurisu turning back...

I think it is because of her love for Okabe...

After the whole father background story Kurisu thought about what regrets she didn't want to have, she immediately thought of returning to Okabe's side to let him know her feelings; it only happened because Feyris went back to Kurisu to let her hear that old message her father recorded and sparked up hope.

Up until that moment Kurisu was very determined to leave, blocking out thoughts of her love for Okabe out, focusing her thoughts on her father as an excuse to leave and thinking it was all for the best. She even used a Dr. Pepper as a lure in the Anime, lol... So there should have been a reason other than the drama of appearing at the last moment because it was the last chance.

It's also not that odd she would suddenly believe her own words and memories would end up reaching a parallel world where she and Okabe can reunite. She did admit after all, that just like everyone else, she has memories of Okabe trying desperately to save Mayuri and also how she tried to help him too.

Just watched the episode... Agree that this is one of the best ever anime episode. A perfect 10.

Kurisu and Okarin is really the perfect couple and with all these past episodes where they had shared all these experiences, the confirmation of their comance seemed natural - but still very, very touching.

This year truly is a year for anime. Previously Madoka seemed to be the best anime. Now it seems Steins;Gates will be very, very close... I'm worried about Fate/Zero now - the standards for the best anime seem so high this year...

I understand all of that, but my problem wasn't that because he turned into an evil man or that he was once a good person, it was the combined implication that a good man who turned evil is able to somehow instill hope into Kurisu. That is completely illogical.

I understand the whole "no regret" angle, that was about the only thing that made sense to me in the drama. I just take issues with the way they executed it by dragging Nakabachi's past into the mix. FWIW I think Feyrius just talking about her own experience with her father would've been a way more convincing story, they could even write about how Feyrius had vague memories of asking Okabe to use D-mail to save her father etc, them trying to tie together Nakabachi, Suzuha and Feyrius father together was just beyond believable. And again, I simply couldn't find how finding out your father being an absolutely terrible person now who just told you to never call and him being a nice person 7 years ago would give Kurisu hope, if anything it would give her more despair because one of the angle of Kurisu's story was that she blames herself for turning her father into a spiteful person. If anything finding that out should make her hate herself even more.

The other problem is that it wasn't Kurisu would believe she would have memories from the different world line - that wasn't even the issue they have and were arguing about, it was that she believes that there would be a different world line where she would survive and that Okabe would find it, out of absolutely no where and no evidence from all of the experiments that had been conducting, well except of course if you have already seen the true ending. Sure you can just chalk it up to "it's love, stupid!", but that's just a coup out and ruins the character they have spend so much time building up.
