I don't see the words on the screen when it plays, the episodes usually have subtitles...
Can anyone confirm if it is supposed to be like this?

I'm assuming you're talking about Hell-Fansub's MKV release (which, again, I'm assuming are softsubs). Sounds like you don't have VSFilter installed, in which case you should read the playback help guide at the top of this forum, or grab the CCCP.
