I think this is perfect example of anime promoting manga. So many people are going to start converting to manga.

I think those eyes were pretty creepy, actually. All the titan designs have been awesome for creepiness.

Nah, I can hold myself out for two, the cliffhanger is a killer though.

Don't know, I'd say he's pretty scary in a different sort of way.

The cuteness makes their blase killing of the humans that much better, imo.

Yeah, that's creepy in its own way. No way I'm using 'cute' in the same sentence with a Titan.

It's called the Uncanny Valley, which the mangaka used pretty well when creating the antagonists for the series (the titans). The closer they look to being human, the creepier it gets.......and it doesn't help that most of them have a great big grin on their faces while munching on people.

I dunno. I could totally see myself buying a life-sized statue of one of the cuter Titans as a conversation piece for my place.

There's a European artist that makes sculptures out of dead human beings he buys from China. He skins them and puts them into classical poses, and his work has been featured in museams in Europe. Something like that, but with the totally cutesy troll faces in the anime would be quite the icebreaker for dinner parties.

Yes, I was introduced to the Uncanny Valley on another thread here in the general anime section before this series started airing. When I first saw the titans I realized they were a perfect example of it. They're the most uncomfortable/unnerving things I've encountered in anime, the mangaka has a talent for this type of character design.

Now that you guys mention it, it's actually starting to get creepier to me the longer I look to those eyes.

Speaking of the uncanny valley, this video article has a great discussion on that: http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/epi...uncanny-valley

Sorry; dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
On another note: OST is freaking fantastic in this show, any word on when it's coming out?

From what I hear, the OST will be out in June. But yes, the OST is incredibly amazing, I want it now.

The look on their despairing faces are great, but it's missing some sound effects.

Zawa zawa...

Slightly disappointing seeing the still frames and cut-aways in parts, as I was very morbidly excited to see those squad deaths animated, especially after how disturbing the scene in which Eren's mother was eaten was.

Otherwise an excellent episode though, they nailed the surprise despair perfectly. The OP and the training episodes combine to give the impression of an elite squad being formed that kills titans like fodder...and then, THIS. Such a welcome change from the usual shounen formula.
