FRONT MISSION Dog life & Dog Style

I just picked up a new series from a book store titled "FRONT MISSION Dog life & Dog Style" seriealized on Young GunGun and completely blew me away.

The author is Ootagaki Yasuo, the same author who writes "Moonlight Mile" serialized on Big Comics Superior.
The setting is in the near future 2090, an island the size of Hokkaido rich with rare metal appears in the middle of the Pacific around the start of 21st century and war errupts for claim.
Newly formed(2020) USN(New Continental United States with USA and middle and South American nations) fights against OCU(Ociana Confederate Union with South east Asian nations at the center) for control over the island.
It show how man can be brutal with new technology with all the gore an artist can muster out similar to Beserk.
Gang rape, guerrilla warfare utilizing new technology in a urban district, blood splats, it's shows whats within the fog of war that's shrouding the details.
Cold reality at it's worst.

I was conflicted in showing some of the illustration but decided to give a link to better elaborate the kind of reality this piece offers.

Spoiler for Not for the faint hearted:

Wow, that certainly changed the way I see the FM universe.

Front Mission is an SRPG game series by Square Enix, but from the pages provided I see that this manga gives a more gritty view of the conflicts from the civilian point of view.

How does the story unfold, by the way? Are there main characters, or does the manga simply have a broad perspective in a general sense?

From the two volumes I had bought I do not see any linear story telling except for a rogue photo journalist appearing here and there who post his picture on the internet bypassing censorship.
The illustration were from the first story about two TV news correspondents and a contract photographer trapped in middle of a war zone when OCU broke cease fire.
The two were perment employees of a TV station protected by company regulation so they were entitled to leave handing the resposibility of relying the news to a contract agent, the photographer when all hell broke lose.

Interesting concept.

Front Mission has always been from the point of view of the soldiers, the wanzer pilots and the military. It seems this manga gives it a more human side from a different point of view.

And goddammit, I'm still waiting for Front Mission 5, Square!

yea Front Mission 5 (USN military perspective) was supposed to be the best in the series hailed by fans, where it involves mostly about patriotism and fighting OCU. Sadly, unlike it will hit the western shores so dont keep your hopes up.

Yowch at those images, especially the one of Margo.

Now I can be a cold guy, and there are a lot of things that wouldn't even faze me, but something like that tends to affect me. It's just depressing. I guess I'm more affected by the gruesome context surrounding the image rather than the image itself.

If you think those illustrations are depressing, you should read the back story of Margo interviewed by Inuzuka.

Spoiler for Back story of Margo:
