Nothing really to comment on this one. Heartwarming moment with Killua and Mito and a cliffhanger at the end. Next chapter will be the set up of things to come. Very excited for it. But not more than July 15th, the start of YS arc

Perfect voice actor for Ging and that was news to me that Gon's mom might still be in the picture when in the original T.V. series (either that or I got a bad translation) I could have sworn Mito said it was her sister who died that was Gon's mother. Guess I shouldn't have just picked up the manga where the T.V. series left off if it switched important info like that.

Spoiler for Anime vs manga:

Mito's first meeting with Killua wasn't in the manga



Mito did not mention that Gon did not mail her ever since his graduation. With two recap episodes you would think they'll bring it up.




This scene is filler



I thought the music wasn't fitting the mood here. It was supposed to be a happy, goofy moment but they gave it a somewhat suspense music.



Mito's "joke" with the license wasn't as funny as the manga. Especially the lack of the boys' comment how she wasn't joking.




Then we see a mini-adventure montage..... trading off, you guessed it: Kite. Are there any other chances to show his flashback before his official debut? I don't think so. And since we didn't get him, there's no mention of Kon as well.







This short scene was filler



This scene was good and heartwarming. The music was fitting so much.



Here we have two missing information: The first is Gon been home-schooled, and the other is the name of the girl he mentions; "Noko".




Killua describes his mom here. In the manga, this was a silent scene and we don't see Mito's face. When I first read the manga, I thought that was Noko who got mentioned by Gon a moment earlier, but then I realized that it was Mito.




When Mito asks Gon on how long he'll stay, he says that he's going to find Ging. In the manga, Mito asked Gon about it.




We never hear little Ging speaks in any of his scenes. Maybe they couldn't make Rikiya Koyama talk like a little kid or didn't want Megumi to voice him.






Mito was prettier in manga in this moment.




Wait, did Killua steal Gon's bed?! It wasn't clear if he was sleeping on it or on the floor in the manga.




The box opening scene was cool. And, Madhouse shows us how well they know the manga events when the showed the details of the string in episode 30 because they knew it'll be important to this moment.



Hunterpedia got an overhaul.



The episode was good. But again, Kite's absence lowers the rating of another good episode.

One last note: Since this is the first non-Horrible Subs episode that I watch, I noticed this still here after the end of the episode. Does anyone knows or have other stills from previous episodes?

And now... let's see how the old version has destroyed these episodes to me and probably to others as well...

Spoiler for Nippon's Adaptation Part 1:

First off, in the manga, Heaven's Arena arc ended with episode 44. But the Whale Island mini-arc wasn't in episode 45, but in 46 instead. Episode 45 was Kurapika-centric. But what's the surprise? This is not the first time he, or should I say "she" get's something before the others! ((Her fight with Hisoka anyone?))



Now to episode 46: We start during the trip home to Whale Island with Killua remembering Illumi's words from the exam, but he calms down after seeing Gon's luggage and remembering Wing's final words before the arrival. Oh, and looks like Gon likes to hang up up-side-down.



I thought this scene was funny



Looks like Whale Island doesn't have any public transportation system, and it takes a long time till Gon's house! But... I thought Killua acted a bit bratty with complaining about the length of the road and the food! I find it strange coming from someone who went through the Hunter Exam beginning to end and called it "boring"...!!



Now to the manga content. Now, I haven't went back to the earlier episodes yet, but is this really Gon's house? It doesn't look anything like in the manga! And Gon keeps comparing everything to Killua's house.




What's with Killua's face here? It's like he's not happy to be there...!!



Mito looks less angrier than how she is in the manga.




Okay, I think we got the main purpose of the episode. It's about Killua and how he tries to adapt to the life of the simpletons! Look how he discovers the wonders of A SCRUB BRUSH!!



And looks like he hates red pepper!



Mito's "joke" with the card was closer to the manga




Of course, Nippon's adaptation was closer to the manga here, except that they left the scene when Gon shows Killua the place where he first met Kite. Poor Kite, he's forgotten in both adaptations...!




After eating the fish, Gon and Killua remain in the forest till evening. Nippon's adaptation changed things a little.



The next day is a filler story about Kon ((Or Konta according to Nippon's adaptation)), his cub and some poachers. The scene dropped a name for the forest that I don't think it was there in the manga.



Then we have ANOTHER filler scene with the boys trying to connect to the internet, followed by Mito asking them to watch the bar and grocery store that they weren't available in the manga for her. In it also Killua sees a picture of Ging for the first time.



Was Killua drinking off-screen? O_o These cups weren't there moments ago...!!!



Here we see Mito praying at a grave. But whose grave is it? We'll find out, along with the second major problem of this arc (We're still not in the first major problem yet)



Then, OMG... ANOTHER filler scene!! Mito cuts Gon's and Killua's hair, and I say it's:


Because we don't see any differences in their hair before and after.


W00t! Manga content! Nippon's adaptation didn't say anything about Noko.




Some imaginary moments of the boys.



When Killua asks Gon about his mom, Nippon's adaptation completely ignored the fact that asking about her is much harder to him than looking for his dad. They also changed the presumed cause of death by making it of illness instead of a car crash.




After that we go back to Kon's cub. No problem so far...



Until we get to the dispute between the boys on what to do with it... Gon wants to keep it alive because he believes that there's a chance to save it, while Killua wants to kill it because he doesn't believe that he got it! He insisted so much that he injured Mito's arm to get her out of his way! And he was about to kill her, until she slapped him on the face. What happened to Killua there?! All of a sudden he turned to a big @$$hole infron of his friend like he has forgotten that he doesn't want to be a killer anymore like he said to Illumi! Like he really got a split-personalty case there!



Then he steps back, and Gon tells him that they can save it........ by using nen......! The same method Wing has used on them to release their nen because according to Nippon's adaptation, nen is in ever living creatures, and that includes plants and animals! But... how is this a healing method again?! Releasing it doesn't cure injuries! And if the cub doesn't learn how to control its nen, it'll run dry and die in the end! But of course they want a happy ending and therefore logic is unnecessary...!

That's not everything... if this episode destroyed Killua's personality, the next episodes destroyed something really important to Gon...

Spoiler for Nippon's Adaptation - Part 2:

Episode 47: The episode starts with Mito's recovery from last episode, then we see the Pandora box.



All these scenes are filler.






Then we get little Ging. His conversation location with Mito was different than the manga. Ging also looked a tad different and looked more like Gon compared to how he looked in the manga.





Again, no mention of Ging being the first son of the Grandma and Mito is the daughter of her second son, or the fact that Mito's parents were the ones who dies in a car crash in a vacation after Ging's departures, or even Ging's father who got lost in the sea. Nippon's adaptation also made it to be that Gin's wife is actually Mito's sister! But in the manga, Gon's mother was unknown. Another change is the fact that Ging left after his wife's funeral instead of separating from her for unknown reasons. Oh, and he grandma is made to be Mito's mother instead of her grandmother.



In case you're not following the changes, here's the charts to make it simple:




Then we get a filler scene about Gon's desires.



Looks like the anime insists on making Mito much nicer than her manga self.




When talking about Ging's childhood, this scene from the manga got delayed a bit, and the talk about the boat got extended a bit more.




Mito's manga self is still prettier here.




Then another filler scene between Gon and Killua about last night.



Then... do I need to say it?! Another filler scene with Mito trying to retrieve a sheet got blown off by the winds and remembering Ging when he found her.



While trying to open the box, it says that Killua can lift up to 12 tons.



Is it weird that Gon says the marking on the sticks resembles what he saw on Wing's thread, without showing them to us to confirm it?!



The soundtrack was unfitting for the scene of Ging's tape. This was supposed to be a mysterious, suspenseful scene and yet they gave us a soundtrack that didn't make it seems like it!




And these are the faults of Nippon's adaptation of Whale Island's arc so far. They messed up Killua's personality, messed up the usage of nen,and messed up Gon's family and how they relate with Mito's family!

Gon finally arrived home.
It was nice watching him and Killua just be kids for a while.
The story about Gon's (Ging) dad was pretty interesting.
So now the new mission will be finding Gon's dad who's also a hunter.
That mysterious box be probably be very useful in the future.
That should be really interesting to watch.

At this point I wonder how i even watched the 1st version of the anime...

I mean adding fillers is cool,but changing important information to some rubbish only shows that they probably didn't plan on going too far with the series.

The 1999 series was intended to have an entirely different ending than the manga-canon version. Once the 2011 series gets to that point in the story, I'll do a little write-up about Furuhashi's original ending. It's significantly different.

That was a very good episode. Some very touching moments and an immediately engaging mystery set up at the end.

I loved this weeks episode but I am disappointed that MH decided to skip out on their chance to show us what they should have shown us during the very first episode.
Their anime adaption has been pretty spot on so far and is handled with a lot of care, I really can't see why they would take away such an important moment.
What could they be planning/thinking?

It will still be a long while before that "moment" becomes relevant again, so they're probably saving it for when they can be sure that this adaptation will cover that much ground.

Madhouse has proven time and time again that they know what they're doing, so even if I'm upset with the absence of that character, I will allow myself to be optimistic.

I hope whatever Madhouse is planning about him, is a good change.

Can't answer that at the moment, but I think they gave the anime an open ending since the manga is still running.
