I have played BF42 a lot (in clans and competetive too).
It was a fun game, but the mods were always better: ForgottenHope, DesertCombat, EveOfDestruction. The series didnt evolve into the right direction for me with BF2 and all its expansions. Infantry fights are fun in BF2, but anything involving vehicles is just boring. None of the vehicles have a realistic, or powerful feeling to them. Most of the time when youre under fire, you are better off just jumping out. Tanks main guns and explosions in general feel very tiny and arent impressive (unlike DC for example, where tanks have a totally different style somehow). So, Inf in modern BF is good, but there are games that do that much better. BF is for the vehicles, and right there.. it sucks. Im waiting for good BF2 mods right now. ForgottenHope2 for example. |

I have enjoyed the games, really liked Vietnam since I had fun learning how to fly the helicopters. The soundtrack was pretty good too. The thing I don't like about the BF series is the damage system. Would much prefer the Counterstrike damage system, BF never felt right to me.
Oooo I did have fun in 1942 driving jeeps at my teammates and then bailing out at the last second so they get run over by and empty jeep and I don't get penalized......good times. And throwing grenades at their feet and watching as they get blasted into the air and fail to open their chutes. I don't usually grief much in games, but it had the greatest griefing options ever. BF2 was alright, enjoyed the stats system, not much else.

You are talking about my series. I started with the BF1942 MP beta and was in love. Played 1942 untill my fingers bled (well not quite but close). XWW2, FH, and EoD allowed that game to hold onto my soul well after it should have been onto the next best thing.
BF:Vietnam was ok. If not for EoD mod for that game it would have been worthless (should have been an expansion for 1942). BF2 I still play like a madman. Mostly you will find me on a Project Reality or an Eve of Distruction server. I am waiting for Forgotten Hope to be released with baited breath. |

BF2142 is like BF:Vietnam: Take the last successful game you have, make a huge total conversion mod for it, and sell it for another US$50. I have no tolerance for cash-hungry crap like this.
Although the weapons in Battlefield 2 are real, the combat isn't. Vanilla Battlefield 2 gameplay consists of finding a vehicle, driving it solo if you're an ass, or crowd into one as a passenger. Otherwise, you'll have to walk or swim and probably get killed midway by someone with a vehicle. If you're not in a vehicle, you're either a sniper or you have a lifespan of 2 minutes. Once you're on foot, your next 2 minutes consist of blindly walking through the too-freaking-big map alone, finding an opponent, get really close, and one of you emerge alive after 3 seconds. Plus, every map has America on it, and there is never China VS MEC. Chinese weapons are also grossly undertech (probably not a word, but you'll get what I mean). If you don't have the Project Reality mod, don't bother with BF2. |

I visited the FH2 website and there is an installer for download: V0.7
Has anyone tried it yet? I dont have BF2 installed right now, so I dont want to go through that process only to see a not yet playable version. If all the tanks and wepaons listed are already in the game, then it should be worth it... |
