Chapter 583 came out as a raw chapter and:

- Utsuro collapses from the Altana crystal being placed in his heart. Umibouzu has a mini-flashback as he returns home in time to see Kagura, in tears, trying to comfort Kouka as she finally gives in to her illness and dies. From her sleeve, we see several Altana Crystals fall. Kamui is nowhere to be seen, implying that he already left and abandoned his family.
- However, Utsuro survives Umibouzu's last ditch attempt to kill him. He appears behind Umibouzu (a la Bleach Style; threatening leer with character in front looking scared and surprised) Abuto tries to warn Umibouzu but Utsuro, looking like a demon from Hell as he's smiling eerily and regenerating half his body, takes back his sword: ripping it from Umibouzu's body by pulling to the right, cutting off the Yato's remaining arm and nearly bisecting Umibouzu.
- Abuto is pissed and tries to avenge Umibouzu but Utsuro recovers his arm that was punched off earlier, along with his cloak and mask before engaging. Abuto is then easily defeated (Utsuro is stronger than Yatos; how the hell is Gintoki supposed to fight him?)
- As he walks off into the distance, smiling smugly, Umibouzu lays dying...and is confronted by his son. Kamui looks pissed that the man he was trying to live up to and surpass, the man who "let his wife die", was so easily defeated. He then charges at him in rage. For the first time ever, Abuto stands up to Kamui and tells him to stop. Kagura manages to drag herself back up and begs her brother to stop. Both pleas fall on deaf ears as Kamui leaps at his father...and is interrupted by Gintoki's sword strike, Shinpachi and Sadaharu by his side.

So it's finally here. Gintoki vs Kamui. It's going to be up to our favorite samurai to finally knock some sense into this idiot. Most likely Shinpachi and Sadaharu are going to get Kagura, Abuto and Umibouzu to safety as the battle goes underway.

Damn what a brutal end to Umibouzu. He's become another G-ya. He's gone...

That right hand. Didn't expect that.

Was almost right with Utsuro saying his own Altana is nearly depleted.

Damn it! From the right arm? Are you friggin' serious? Utsuro regenerates from his right arm, and Umibouzu loses his and dies? Hello? Umibouzu? Are you there? You didn't actually die with your family still broken and your business with your son unresolved, right? Well damn. I guess if he really is dead, as Gintama deaths go, no final words of reconciliation is pretty unique.

Wow....

I almost shed a tear this chapter especially since I enjoyed reading about Umibozu's background story. Wasn't a big surprise that he would be the one to fall but damn, it's still sad to see it. ;_;

Yeah, a big part of Kamui's flaw is that he hero worshipped his father. When he discovered that not only was Umibouzu unable to 'fix' Kouka, but his action was the reason for her illness as well, it was almost like a betrayal he couldn't get over. Kamui is like a lost child that's full of rage and purposelessness and only knows how to bite back in response to that. His entire existence since the 'betrayal' has solely been to defeat his father, so now that he's failed because someone else beat him to it, what's left for him? I know a lot of people's opinions of Kamui changed to dislike once his story was revealed, but I kind of enjoy how the irrationality of his thought process and of his actions show how overwhelmingly human this makes him. We all thought he was this strong fighter, but it turned out that he's really just an emotionally fragile kid who's hiding the fact that he's been running away the entire time (although maybe I'm debasing him a little too much with this comment). I'm curious as to how Sorachi-sensei is going to resolve his arc.

That was crazy. Utsuro said his altana is depleted, so now would be the time to strike for Gintoki and the others. However, there is a brat in need of a good spanking to deal with first.

- Gintoki saving Umibouzu from Kamui. Most likely launches into a speech about how Kagura belongs to the Yorozuya, etc.
- Gintoki trying to knock Umibouzu unconscious to keep him out of the fight and/or for putting himself in mortal danger by headbutting him. Fails spectacularly and gives himself a huge comical bump on his head instead. (Gorilla-sensei never fails with the humor)
- Kamui says something to piss off Gintoki and sends him into a tranquil rage. Gintoki says something right back that sends Kamui into a literal rage. Leaping at Gintoki, he punches him dead-on in the face. Gintoki staggers and he's bleeding but doesn't fall, while looking as if it didn't hurt him at all. While glaring at Kamui like a demon, Gintoki hits him right back with his sword, drawing blood and launching Kamui into the cliff.
- Gintoki then most likely tells him off for being a spoiled brat who abandoned his family when they needed him at a crucial time of their lives. (Kouka's death) Finally the battle between the two begins in earnest! Shiroyasha vs the second King of the Night!

Couldn't resist a chuckle after Gin's headbutt. Ah, that scene felt good. Didn't think I'd be laughing during Umibouzu's death scene, but I'm glad Gorilla did that.

And man, Kamui versus Gintoki, this has been, what, 5 years in the making? Feels like yesterday when Yoshiwara in Flames happened.

Okay, what Gin says this chapter, acknowledging the fact that he's changed- We all knew this, and we've discussed it, but for Sorachi-sensei to have him address it outright like that- this manga is undoubtedly approaching its end.

Damn, Kamui. I feel bad for Abuto. He's like the surrogate father or uncle who just takes shit from his charge despite all the abuse, because he cares enough to keep going. I'm glad the Yato are finally getting fleshed out.

I gotta say though, while the Umibouzu/Kouka love story was great, this arc isn't doing any favors for Umibouzu as a father. He pretty much dropped the ball in all aspects when it came to Kamui.

Gin's note about the 1-vote getters was also pretty funny. Gintama fans can be such trolls, can't we? Some of these votes were so obscure. I wonder if the "Old lady from the lunchbox store" votes were all from the same person.

Looks like the Rakuyou arc is at its end! Next up, back to Earth? I still think the final Chekhov's gun is going to be at Baka Ouji's planet. Gorilla-sensei was just waiting for us to forget him, just you watch.
