Nah, I wouldn't compare her to Rin just yet. Rin's at least embraced the fact that she's constantly flirting with noticing beautiful women. Ilya's still in denial about it.

Still, I wonder if this means Kaleido Ruby bases its choice of masters on some really weird criteria. "I will only accept a master who has tons of subtext with lots of girls... and exactly one boy!"

That would probably explain why Ruby is a Shipper On Deck for Ilya/Shirou. Even if he's her brother, he's really the only straight option she has! The rest of the time she's busy having subtext with Miyu.

You've never read Prisma Illya? I'm surprised, considering you love Ilya so much. It's a magical girl AU with Ilya as the main character,

Never really got around to it, or maybe I did a long time ago; I dinnae remember. I am now compelled to do so, but that'll mean I have to stop playing Yume Miru Kusuri for a long enough time to find and read something, and that's a hard choice.

Well, when you want to check it out, it's on Mangafox. Translation is a little on the slow side, but it's totally worth it.

I'll second that. Well worth the time to check it out; very cute and very funny, with action sequences that still capture a good solid chunk of that FSN epicness.

Plus, it's worth checking out if only for all of the FSN references it throws in. Seriously. The whole scene where Rin made Ilya her slave in season one had me cracking up.

Volume 9 is out! And to avoid spoilers until I'm sure other folks have read it... how to put this?

The manga author very clearly likes Lancer a lot. And that is fine by me. Lancer, rock out!

I am so jealous of you, Moczo. You don't even know. I'm still away at college, so I can't get volume 9 right now.

Hee hee, I pre-ordered it like, two months ago. Well, I won't spoil anything for you other than...

This is an actual line.

Lancer: That girl's actually way too good for you, kid. Don't wait too long before you tap that.

HA! He managed to get that moment in! I loved that moment while playing through UBW in the VN!

The sequence is... half better and half worse than it was in the game. On the one hand, Lancer actually starts sparkling with smarminess during key points. Sadly, Rin doesn't freak out as much as she did in the game, which detracts a bit.

I got my own copy of volume 9 today; and yes, Lancer is cool.

As far as I'm concerned, Lancer can never have too much screentime. The major change they made to this section of UBW? Give Lancer a bunch more screentime. I am... obviously happy with this.

Plus, I'm really wondering what they're doing with Archer, he seemed awfully nonchalant about what's going on...

Had a browse of volume 9 this past weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of Lancer. This pleases me to no end.

So I finally picked up a copy of volume 9 this weekend. My thoughts:

Even in his manga incarnation, Lancer is awesome and hilarious. That is all.

I also liked the little twists on Shirou copying Archer's style while fighting Lancer in the dojo, and the Rin/Shirou moment in the forest. It was different from the game, but I have to admit I still enjoyed them a great deal. It's always fun to see an original twist on a familiar scene.

He sparkles with smarminess!

I thought the whole Lancer training sequence was a nice addition; a good way to drive in how Shirou is improving that manages to get across the spirit of what happened in the game without directly re-using it. I honestly do think the manga is at it's best when doing new material. The author seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

I liked the sequence too because it highlights just how different Shirou's training with Saber was compared to his sparring with Lancer. Saber was just trying to teach him how to survive in a fight without winning, but Lancer was pretty much holding nothing back against him and forcing him to fight as if he wanted to try and win, even if he didn't have a chance.
