The original Haruhi series did it but I don't know if that was the start. What surprises me here is that Kajiura's management agreed to this - I'd expect the OST to be a strong seller on its own, and presumably they get more revenue from a separate CD than from taking a small cut of the BD sales. I guess there must be other factors at work.
Personally I like the Haibane Renmei approach, where they released a normal standalone OST but also bundled a second bonus one with the DVD first pressing. Nice way of saying thank you to the hard-core supporters while still making the main soundtrack available to a wider audience.

Wow. Again and again new notable pieces - I think that Madoka may be Kajiura's best work since Noir. There are so many music pieces I'm looking forward to, much more than usual.
The latest one is a piece I even overlooked during the first watch - the slow, sad, and almost tragic music starting at 15:20 in ep9, when Kyoko and Madoka walk to the showdown with Sayaka. Because damn, the show offers the sad content to go with the music... Haaaah... *sniffle* Beautiful. |

Hmm hmm hmm the lyrics of Snow Falling (Magia coupling song) has never been so relevant to the anime before. "The world is a box", indeed. Now I mentally picture Homura and Madoka walking side-by-side, free from the QBeans hellish scheme, in a cooling universe...

Same here as of episode 10. But, Madoka's wish is still a mystery, and we know her wish can't be the same as "before" anymore, otherwise this story will just become a non-story. I have a feeling that her wish could turn the OP/ED around again.

Not actually. Nanoha A's did it prior to Haruhi.

Spoiler for actual show footage:
Here it is, without the lines said by the characters (mostly), lovingly recreated, then re-rendered into MAD form by a fan: I prefer to have the tune only here, as when the official version comes up with Kaida's/Kalafina's (I'm not sure who's doing it, would love to be enlightened on this) awesome vocals embedded into it I most certainly wouldn't be underwhelmed then. As a footnote, I have yet to decide whether this, or Kara no Kyoukai comes up tops as Kajiura's best score for me, so darn hard to decide. |
