Er... remember, it's BOTH an Avisynth filter and a DirectShow filter, as well as a VirtualDub filter (as I keep saying - the rendering routines are the exact same, it's just different entry points in the DLL when called from vdub/avisynth/directshow). When used from DirectShow or VirtualDub, it obviously can't rely on Avisynth for colorspace conversions. And remember, VSFilter is based on Avery Lee's old Subtitler plugin, which, being a VirtualDub filter, always works in RGB32 (just like VSFilter when used from Vdub). I imagine doing the rendering in RGB is much simpler than in YUY2 or YV12 (the chroma subsampling would complicate things, I imagine - but I'm no programmer). And, well... it's Gabest. His stuff tends to do silly things occasionally

I just inspected the VSFilter code a bit, Rasterizer.cpp in Rasterizer::Draw(), and it indeed only supports rendering to a surface consisting of packed 32 bit values per pixel. No planar surfaces, no other bit-depths. (Aka. it's pure RGB32.)

Now that I think about it, wasn't there some other project where people were going to write a replacement renderer for typesetting?

yeah many have tried reinventing the wheel, but the main issue is if they make a new one will the commands change, if so doesn't seem worth it to me. I for one don't wanna learn a whole new typeset scripting language...

VSFilter does indeed do subs in RGB32, but it does NOT convert the whole picture to RGB32. It ONLY converts the pixels it needs to RGB32 and back. I tested that specifically the other day.

Most of the efforts I've seen so far primarily involve creating a VSFilter clone that works on something else than win32, and/or is faster - but does just the same work. There are more ambitious attempts too, like pixiesub, which is a renderer for USF (the Matroska vaporware subtitle format), but those are rarer.

yeah many have tried reinventing the wheel, but the main issue is if they make a new one will the commands change, if so doesn't seem worth it to me. I for one don't wanna learn a whole new typeset scripting language...

If the new scripting language is more powerful than ASS/SSA, then one can write a simple converter to convert ASS script into the new scripting language.

Well, I just wanted to say that my ssa to after effects script has been updated for after effects 7.0.

I'll add more functions when I get a hold of the scripting guide.

I have a question with the after effects...

No himself as adding effects. I import the file .ssa I add you any effect and I come up against the effect like cut. Without animation only he seems at a place and next in the other one. Also you want to know as I add a brightness when a letter appears .. help me plz u_u
