The recent sales on stocks of Chinese banks is kind of interesting. Recently Goldman Sachs sold a large amount stocks of the industrial and commercial bank of China. They all made quite a lot of money on their investments, but these are moves that bring a lot of questions.
My guess is that they are forcing the CCB to give them preferential shares. Either that or there is some creative accounting done by the CCB that remains to be seen by the general public.

The CA part, I think it should be that many construction firms owe the CCB money that the bonds it holds are more or less junk; remember the article about China building tons of stuff which nobody buys or rent?

From the online comments I read, there is a consensus that the housing price will eventually fall. At the current price, a large part of the population is excluded from the market because the houses are totally out of reach of the common people. A large part of those who are in the market are not buying house because they need to make "investments": so there are a lot of speculative money in the market because (1)rich people want to get richer (2)some government agencies and state own corporations that have access to cheap loans looking for a quick profit, and the problem is compounded by the 2008 stimulus package (which is also a factor in causing inflation) (3)speculative money from foreign investors. Everybody knows that there is a bubble, but when it is going to burst is

So there is a debate going on between the have's and have-not's: one side wants the price to fall out of pure necessity of living. Without customers the price will fall; the other side wants the government to do "something" to protect their investment: otherwise it will be a big problem for the economy, blah, blah, blah....
Not dissimilar to the bailing out of American banks. The question is how much it will fall so some sort of balance can be reached. The government officials has a track record of exploiting the have-not's and covering up their own greed and mistakes. On the other hand, the urbanization of China is raging on and there no lack of potential buyers. What is lacking, however, are people who can afford to buy a house.

There are many, if you haven't forgot the trend of betting against China that's going on since a couple of month ago. I haven't done any research so I have no idea how much money they have made (not much, I suspect).

I am not a Chinese national, though I do hear from my Chinese ex-classmates telling me about their parents wanting to move to Singapore because they say it is impossible to do business without guanxi there. Alongside I do hear that businessmen do exploit each other too, namely those with CCCP connections exploiting those who don't.

Regarding the American banks, I had a small chat with my mentor about that issue and he gave me a final piece of a puzzle : if BofA is dumping all their Chinese stocks, it means that they are getting their cash back; meaning which they would either reinvest or bunker down on it, making BofA a good investment in the future. Also, Goldman Sachs do hold alot of Chinese stuff, and with BofA making their withdrawal, GS might do the same in the next few months to get cashback, leaving the Chinese economy high and dry.

It would be ironic that the biggest douches who crashed the US economy 3 years ago may be the ones saving it too, doesn't it seem?

And in the "Sorry, no one taught us how to behave like grownup" department of North Korea antics:

I wonder how the message was passed they were supposed to boo. It certainly wasn't spontaneous (cuz ya know.. sometimes the government doesn't want them to boo).

The president of The Citadel military college apologized on Monday for not reporting to law enforcement an allegation against a camp counselor involving sexual activity and a child. Asked by a reporter what he would tell victims and their families about the college's admitted lack of action, Lt. Gen. John Rosa responded: "I'd say we're profoundly sorry.
"We're sorry that we didn't pursue it more. We acted on what we thought was our best information ... We did not pursue it enough."
Over the weekend, the nationally known South Carolina college detailed an abuse allegation against one if its alumni, Louis Neal "Skip" ReVille, 32, who was arrested late last month.

Sorry but the Europeans have the market cornered on crazy fans.

Maybe but we don't need a Hooligan culture in Canada to get a Hockey Riot.

I'd stay out of certain places of Oakland if the Raiders were taking the bagel.

As for that hockey riot, as an African American in the states, let's just say I was........perplexed at the sheer wanton destruction happening in wealthy white Vancouver. Naturally there are exceptions but that was a HELL of an exception.

But no I still stand by my original statement. It's not like we don't have crazies here in the states, but in European countries it seems to be a much more potent type of sub-culture.

WTF. I recall things like out-of-control celebrations that resemble riots with fires and overturned cars when teams in certain cities win in the US. How much worse can Europeans possibly be?

I don't recal anyone shooting an American player in any sport for missing a vital shot in a game. I seem to recall some South American players that were shot for that reason.
