So far I hadn't, for even a moment, been on the side of the Shiki, however I felt so bad for Chizuru. Up to this point what made me choose the humans' side was how the shiki were going about their business - not merely eating to survive, but enjoying killing and even employing extra sadistic tactics (Tatsumi!). However the pleasure Toshi took in putting Chizuru in that position makes the human side look no better.

I can't believe how Tatsumi is now trying to force Natsuno to kill people while he simply doesn't have to!

What a great turn of events! I really loved this episode so much. The doctor is absolutely awesome to come up with such a strategy. I was so worried that he would be turned. He has now been able to expose the Shiki to everyone. This is definitely the greatest of the season for me.

Natsuno, Tatsumi, grave girl and who? I would like to suspect Mr. Kirishiki, but he did not show such abilities this episode when attempting to save his wife. Seems like a normal human to me.

I'd like it to be Toshio, but he's not quite dead yet.

That was a great ep, and I am unequivocally not on the side of the Shiki. Chizuru and all of them deserve everything I hope they get, with interest.

Toshio has completely turned it around for me. The dude has balls of steel, that's for sure - and he's colder than the deadest okiagiri when he needs to be. Beautiful plan. Great smile.

Definitely looks like Akira was saved by Natsuno - I figured as much. Tatsumi was not happy about him being missing.

I don't know. I just feel a bit of compassion for the shiki. Knowing how human nature drives people to do what they do--changed or not--what could they do?

But given the circumstances, I'm with Natsuno on this one. Just wish he could contact the doctor and get some human blood so he could go werewolf berserk on Tatsumi and teach him who's the meanings mofo.

All that being said, a whole lot happened in this episode. Talk about a super fast turn in the tide.

I'm going to take the guess that Natsuno stepped in and countered the hypnosis placed upon him.

The more you think about Toshio's plan, the more beautiful it was. It was he who encouraged the villagers to hold the Kagura Festival - so that the shiki could be exposed in front of a large group. It was contingent on the shiki being overconfident - which they were. He played Chizuru like a concert grand - it was a brilliant performance. The man is stone cold.

I knew this ep would be great when it jumped right into Tatsumi in the pimp suit and shades, striding purposefully though town to the techno BGM like some badass 70's private detective. And it just got better from there. I love how the roles are reversing at last - the humans are the upstarts, and the shiki the establishment. Are the roles of the hunter and hunted about to be reversed, too? I sure hope so - I've been waiting for it for 17 episodes. They have Toshio, Natsume, probably Akira, and the remaining villagers have finally had the cowl lifted from their eyes. This could get really, really good.

If Toshio represented the ruthlessness and resiliency of humankind, Ritsuko represented the better angels of our nature. Her "Don't I have that freedom of choice" was one of the most tragic and heartbreaking moments of the series.

Yeah. Even though feminist critics might say she's just a cardboard cutout of the stereotypical nice-to-a-fault woman who is always moral to the end and never assertive, I wish she'd get more screen time.

This might sound strange. But Ricchan's morally upright, strong-willed, maybe sweet and nice) (seems like she could be), tall, maybe pretty...reminds me of someone from back home that I've known since high school. I blew her off once (never paid attention to her hints), and it seems like even after college, she never completely lost interest. Maybe I should talk to her...

Hm, I got the impression that Toshio was saved not by being bitten by another shiki, but by performing a whole-blood transfusion on himself, like what seemed to stave off Setsuko's symptoms earlier in the series. You can see the blood bag and the line running into his arm while he's in bed struggling against Chizuru's compulsion. The presence of two marks in the skin instead of just one, if it's not just an artifact of how the transfusion works, is probably deliberate — it throws suspicion off of what he's doing, and could in fact cause the shiki clan to implode looking for traitors inside their number.

I'll also jump on the Ritsuko bandwagon here — she was calm and collected after she rose, and it looks like she's going to stick with her convictions and allow herself to die permanently rather than kill to save herself. I was half-expecting her to drive a stake through her own heart! (I don't think she knows that works at this point, but still.)

If he was actually bitten, I doubt it was by Natsuno; he didn't have the power-up that blood consumption should have granted him when Tatsumi confronted him.

Pay closer attention to his hallucination fit at that scene, you see a brief flash of Natsuno's eyes amongst all the Chizuru imagery. I'm quite sure that's meant to be a huge hint. Also, just because Natsuno didn't drink blood doesn't mean he still couldn't have bitten Toshio.

Ah, I didn't make the connection the first time — they didn't look specifically like Natsuno's eyes to me. I got the chain of events mixed up, in any case; Natsuno talking to Tatsumi happened before Toshio's struggle, so that evidence is off the table. D'oh.

If anyone can outlast the hunger and just simply "die" its Ric-chan, I can just see her doing it.

Not suprised at all Sunako is the one in charge, but I was a little surprised Chizuru is the "baby" But from her actions its obvious.

Megumi's parents are still alive? I know she got bit by Chizuru at Sunako's house so but obviously she had to feed over and over to kill her. Since Megumi under control obviously let her in her house why didnt they go after the parents? Is it cuz Chizuru never had an "offical" invite into Megumi's house since? But Ric-chan got bit on the road and she said her mom and sister looked like that before she died, so they got into her house. I dont get why Megumi's parents werent bitten or "spirited away" by the Shiki.

Yeah that's exactly the reason. Megumi has stated on more then one occasion that she doesn't believe her parents don't deserve to be apart of her new life. & that one opinion of her's is the downfall that's started the counterattack.

Oh no is this beginning of the turning point event? i dont know do they have large human reinforcement after a long months of decays looks to me Sunako got a huge confident planning of final stage which indicate that the human are getting thinner.

Can't help feeling sorry for Chizuru regardless since this episode humanizes her with those flashbacks of her mortal life.
