Strike Witches [Light Novel] Translation/Discussion

Well, I like this series too much...

Anyway, I've started translating the first volume of the Strike Witches light novel. It's actually pretty good, and imho the best out of all the media released so far. The author (Yamaguchi Noboru) also wrote the Zero no Tsukaima novels.

Anyway, short introduction to the novel. The setting is 1939, shortly after the Neuroi invasion of Karlsland (Germany) began, but the book focuses on a squadron of misfits and unwanted witches sent to Suomus (Finland). For comparison, the anime is set in 1944, in Britannia.

Spoiler for Characters:
Spoiler for Novel translation, first half of the prologue:
Second half of the prologue introduces Katharine O'Hare and Ursula Hartmann. Anabuki Tomoko and Sakomizu Haruka get introduced in chapter 1.

Anyway, I'll most likely be continuing with this slowly. If there's interest over here, I'll continue posting translations, or else I'll add them to an LN translating site like Baka-Tsuki or something.

Interesting, Wikipedia makes it look like the OVA came first.

YET, it says the OVA was made in January 2007. Why is that important?

Because it also says that the first light novel came out in October 2006.

So it looks like Strike Witches, the anime, ova, and manga were all based off the light novel series.

KEEP UP THE AWESOME TRANSLATIONS!

Well, finished off the prologue, and made some changes to the initial part.

Spoiler:

Onwards to Chapter 1 next.

He's already translated 30% of chapter 1, you can read it on the new wiki project page.

First chapter completed. Note that I'll probably be going back and fixing a lot of junk over the next couple of days, reworking sentences, etc.

Next chapter's a pretty short one, shouldn't take long.

I was wondering...is there any chance you might translate the little character descriptions and quotes at the beginning of the book?

If you mean the stuff in the color pages, then they're actual lines from the book, so they're already translated.

Well, it took longer than I expected because of some work-related junk, but chapter 2 completed. \o/

And various fanart/official art of novel characters.
Spoiler for space:
There's hardly any artwork of the novel characters around, and that Katharine pic is the ONLY one not of Tomoko (at least that I've found). D:

Thanks Selkirk! you're doing an amazing job translating these, it's a joy to read.
You get that small card for pre-ordering one of the DVD's?
