Is the author going through a breakdown or something, perhaps?

Personally I'd be happy if either won although I'm pulling for Rika a bit more.
Oh man I hope you're right about Sena. Lol
But I wouldn't mind Rika either tbh

I don't know... I need to read the whole thing to get the whole context, but from what is being discussed here it really doesn't sound as disjointed as it seems on the surface. If you think of the story in terms of its overarching themes and the way the latest development connect to the way the whole work started, I think it actually does link up fairly well -- even the bit with Yukimura. Sure it's a plot twist and a sort of controversial way to end the novel when it seems like Kodaka has already admitted his feelings for other girls... but if the story is aiming for a resolution where everyone in the club realizes that they're friends and Sena and Yozora's rivalry continues on, this makes sense. I don't think the "epilogue" is going to be all the other girls giving up and Kodaka and Yukimura getting married or something -- it's almost certainly going to be some variation of "life goes on".

So anyway... I'll wait and see. I honestly think a lot of the discussion in this thread seems more about people being upset that their favourite ship seems to have "lost".

I don't speak for everyone of course, but in my case, I've pointed out the same issues since Connect, and Sena was in the lead back then. Even if the epilogue were to result in a Sena end, I would still make the same criticism I've been making all along - that Connect was a mess in terms of advancing the story's overall plot and was most likely some kind of clean up after the author dropped the ball in volume 8. Connect was, in fact, the one LN volume that first got me thinking about the effect that external circumstances such as commercial success, popularity, and even publisher timing can have on a series' plot, an issue that I've talked about in various threads on this site.

It's less of that and more of "this series is a ship running under an ailing captain". Compare that to Fushimi-sensei, who was just slightly put off-course by the powers-that-be.

I got a bad feeling that fan bases, especially Sena shippers, might outrage as the current situation implied that Sena might be at the risk of devastation.

There's a big chance of that happening, but we're talking about a series that's doomed to a not-so-decent end because of the issues of the author and illustrator.

Yeah, it was noticeable, as he gave too many credibility to Sena that made the fellow shippers madly waving Sena flags. Even more so after vol. 8 when he made Kodaka still being an indecisive nice guy and being too concerned of the consequences.

From the the beginning I had an inkling of it ending with Sena but then volume 7 and 8 hit and I was on board the Rika bandwagon. Then Yukimura just came along and pulled that stunt, the author is freaking insane. I can imagine all the neets and shippers going apes-hit like "hurr derr what the fuck where's my predictable formulas".

Which in and of itself is a good thing because it keeps us guessing but volume 9 and 10 didn't steer the plot in any clear direction which is a big no no. Yukimura "getting" Kodaka for now came out of no where especially with Kodaka's internal monologue about Rika. Just end this please.

But by vol 9 Sena's popularity dropped and Yozora started to get more development also Rika climbed up the polls

For the Yukimura end, maybe the author decided to go that route for a very controversial ending,or,he had enough of Sena/Yozora fans fighting OL,or maybe he wanted to have the same kind of hate that the Oreimo author had with that Kirino end.

So with the series ending with vol 11,no chance for a 3rd season, for lack of material to animate

There's enough for a 3rd season.

Season 1 and 2 covered 4 volumes each, but they skipped over a lot of stuff. If Season 3 doesn't do that, then it'll probably be enough. If not they can sorta do a "filler" where they go back to stuff that was skipped, like the Friend Making Game. I'd love to see that animated lol

Popularity isn't an indicator as she lost it to the lack of focus on Sena on Connect and vol.10 since vol.9.

Well lack of LN to promote also crushes hopes for a season 3

I'm reacting to Somethindarker post about Sena gaining an upperhand as end girl because of her popularity and development. Are you a Sena shipper? When someone comments about Sena's end girl status because of her popularity you don't react to it,but if it's her lack of popularity after vol 9,you always answer defending her??
BTW i was still surprised of her loss in popularity because Kodaka confessed to her, giving more hint she might really be the end girl,I was thinking that her fans will rally to vote for her.

She got the more development romantic wise in the novel so much that the author dug himself in a hole.

And no, so far you're the only one who is "popularity poll here, popularity polls there". Fact.

Popularity in polls is a reason some girls win. It's a proven fact, it's happened before and it'll surely happen again. Now I'm not a Sena shipper or a Rika shipper nor a "shipper" at all, I just follow the story and know patterns the japs like, but as soon as I saw Kodaka "confess" to her that was a red flag that she wouldn't be end girl.

edit; I only mentioned popularity as an off matter of fact statement not as proven fact to support ANY claim. Don't get all huffy over it guys we've seen this argument over and over again and know how it ends so move on.

Sena was the most popular girl for longest duration throughout the series, even if she dropped by some votes I'm sure it won't do much to affect her place in the story. Plus we have to see more polls to see if Sena is truly losing her popularity or just a temporary drop or some unknown outlier. Sena still dominated/ranked high in the most of the polls she in. Also from I have seem, majority still preferred Sena over the rest.

In polls such as Favorite Girl with Big Bust, Favorite Girl in Swimming Suit, Favorite Tsudere Girl and the Poll for the most Popular Girl of Haganai, Sena all dominated in it or rank extremely high. Not that I'm an Sena's fan, just that out of two Sena is less annoying and bitchy.

Tell that to Oreimo. Kuroneko was very popular in popularity back then. Until the series finale, she got a heart-wrenching end. And the fan base enraged and threatened to give the author a piece of mind.

I fear the same would happen to Sena fan base in this series.
