About Shamisen the cat in Episode 1:

Since the anime is mainly about the 1st novel, Shamisen has no relations to the story as he appears only on novel 2 as a minor role. He is an accident lol

Haruhi reckons that a magician cannot be without a partner, a cat to be exact, like Card Captor Sakura has Kero-chan or Sailormoon with Luna. All the more to parody mahou shoujo and henshin heroines.

At first Haruhi wants a black cat but there was none, so they chose the best looking one. A rare male calico and Haruhi named it Shamisen.

Halfway through a Mikuru VS Yuki fight, Haruhi demands that the cat should talk. Haruhi leaves a few seconds of silence where they will fill in with dialogue later during editing. Kyon was very relieved when Shamisen didn't talk.

At the end of the filming day, Kyon thanks Shamisen for not speaking and says: " I will reward you with some cat food or maybe you want a piece of fish?"

What do you think happened next?

I have a question. In the intro. song they credited Haruhi Suzumiya as an Ultra Director. What's the idea behind that one? I thought she was responsible for finding cast members, setting the stage and situation, always be in charge, and has it her way or else suffer from altering reality. It's not like Big O where we get cast members on a stage playing their roles, questioning their existence, and go on without a director to influence them. I always thought that Roger Smith can infleunce people around him just as Haruhi Suzumiya did.

Gordon Rosewater was the director and Roger Smith was the star that's the impression I got from the picture of them shaking hands, but Gordon got tired of his job and left Paridigm to itself, but then when things got out of hand with Alex he let Angel take the mantle of Director to put things right

I've actually found at least one on Fanfiction.net. It's apparently a Haruhi/Yuki pairing, according to the summary.

Haven't read it yet, but Fanfiction.net doesn't have a specific Haruhi section, so it's just in "Others" right now.

they should atleast make a 24 episode season,not 14:/

well.. that depends on whether you're watching the chronologically correct order or the series presentation correct order.

However, both "ending episodes" strongly imply more adventures ahead...

and after the splash this series made in ratings and buzz, I suspect we'll see more, perhaps after Kanon 2006 completes. From what I've read about KyoAni, they'd rather do a few things well than a lot of things mediocre so I'm doubting they'll increase their staff to try and pump out anything in parallel.
