Premieres July 2nd, same day as Tiger & Bunny airs!

To me that I'm started to looking forward to this anime next month, since those fanarts from Pixiv.net comes early to me.

But T&B actually airs on April 2nd. The 14th episode will air on July 2nd. Both will air on MBS on separate slots.

Yes, that's what I mean. Since Sacred 7 gonna be air next week, it's finally become SUNRISE SATURDAY (I mean previously it called Super Hero Saturday from what people said on their blog because of T&B airs on same day but in 1 show only).

I'm honestly in shock at the apparent fact that this is only going to be 12 episodes. A Sunrise TV show that isn't at least 25 episodes long is pretty much unheard of. In fact I can't even think of an example at the moment. I hope this doesn't mean they are going to be going with what seems to be the new format for anime all of a sudden and it's just a one off thing to see how the show goes.

Is the anime going to be 1 or 2-cour ? I guess it will be a 2-cour show since Sunrise don't produce any 1-cour anime.

No, it's definitely 1-cour.

"Definitely" is too strong. That article gets its info from a TV Kanagawa listing showing how many episodes the summer series they are airing will have. Since this is Sunrise, I find it strange that this would be 1-cour, so I'd rather wait for definitive word from MBS or Sunrise before saying this is "definitely" 1-cour.

Wait, are you guys saying that this show is going to be 12-only episodes just like HighSchool Of the Dead, Infinite Stratos & Marvel Anime series? I was expecting that it will be more like Mai HiME (It has 26 episodes).

I don't know why people always bitch about 12 episode series, movies can tell a perfectly good story in 90-120 minutes and 26 episode series can have excessive padding. Screw the episode count, it's irrelevant, it's what done with the time they have that counts.

Also being 1 cour allows them to cut their loses if it's a colossal flop, I'm sure KyoAni and sponsors are thinking "Boy I wish Nichijou was one cour..." Also companies make more money for producing one cour series.. just compare...

AnoHana 6 volumes for 11 episodes
Tiger & Bunny 9 volumes for 26 episodes.

They both sell the same amount of copies and AnoHana has killed T & B in profit made per episode. Just to make up figures.. say they were selling @ $30 a BD and both avg 20,000 copies per volume.

AnoHana = 3.6 million total, 327,272 per episode.
Tiger & Bunny = 5.4 million total, 207,692 per episode.

So lets see, less risk in case it's a bomba, make more money per episode than a 2 cour series and it's airing in the Summer season so more than likely the timeslot it's airing in already has a show booked for the Fall season.

I'm smelling split-season incoming for this one though.

Wouldn't surprise me, seems that 2 cour series @ 12 volumes is something companies can no longer get away with since 9 has become the standard. But if you just do a split cour series you're back to selling 12 volumes... and if part 1 flops just do a Mitsudomoe and cut the second season down by a couple episodes...

Very possible. Sunrise already experimented with splitting an obvious 50ep show like Gundam00 into two 25ep seasons instead. This could be their attempt to split what would normally be a 24-26 ep series into two 12ep seasons instead.

Either that, so Sunrise just can't get producers to agree to an upfront full length series for a new franchise.

No way that's the case, given T&B is 25 eps and Sunrise obviously didn't expect it to be much of anything.

I... wouldn't be so sure about that. T&B has a much stronger commercial push than most otaku shows, and clearly has very strong production support beyond just Bandai, in terms of sponsors and tie-ins.

True, but I've always viewed T&B as Sunrise experimenting with advertisement while not expecting it to be very popular among anime fans even with the added commercial push. That said, I guess the extra funding from those companies could have helped it secure 25 eps.

I would say that another factor is the recent trends of DVD/BD sales. We're seeing short shows perform a lot better in sales compared to longer shows. The biggest home video successes are Bakemono and Madoka. Meanwhile FMA:B sold pretty poorly. It seems to make sense that studios are starting to reconsider how to structure their shows to make them more popular.

I wouldn't say FMA sold poorly...just not on the same level as the original. I don't know, a lot of 2-cour shows are selling what used to be considered really well this season...it's like the standard for success is now only held at above 20k.
