Well done. Rin is one of the best little kid characters ever!

Also the light touches of comedy are nice too.

The artwork is rather... Unique, in a good way. Its good to experience something different once in a while.

Going through difficult times without the aid of your family is hard indeed. Let's see how long Daikichi lasts until something happens.

Idk by the end of the episode it seems like he was at least getting the hang of the daily routine, maybe he'll turn out to be atypical and rise to his challenges.

As weird as it might sound, Astarotte no Omocha almost got it last season.
However, compare with this series it was nothing. Everything about this series is just perfect.

Another adorable episode. Daikichi's problems are such that I can definitely see a 'something has got to give' plot coming up.

I get the feeling that she's not a cameo, and is being set up as a deliberate foil. But we'll see.

I know.
Though I think you are using the word "cameo" incorrectly. Either way, I doubt she will be such a sub-sub character.

Im not sure about most, but I am sure about it all depending on the people raising the child.

Anyways this series is the true slice of life from what I have seen so far. Its sad to see such a situation involving a child, yet it probably happens more often then it seems. Good thing we have the hero in someone most of the time.

Rin is great, but let's be honest - there are so many cute little girls in anime you can't spit out the window without hitting one. Daikichi, OTOH, is a rare thing - a 30-ish single male with no love interest focused on balancing work and raising a kid on his own. He's the most interesting character of the series for me so far.

I have to give this series a high praise, the direction is very top notch, you can feel rin's insecurity and sadness when daikichi left her in the nursery, and how sincere daikichi's care for rin.

funny thing i notice is how different daikichi handle rin and how haruko treat reina, the first show how hes inexperience in the whole parenting business but made it up with his sincerity, genuine care and understanding, while haruko seems to be more.. um "dont do that, dont do this", uh authoritative figure?

and yes i agree with guardian enzo, daikichi is a picture of a perfect father imo, a really rare kind of male in anime and to be honest is a fresh breath of air for me, i cant help but admire him not in a gay kind , but more of i wanna be like him kind of thing.

You must realize that daikichi is like he is right now because this is his first experience raising a child, and the ways he obtained one is also the reason. Most parents are like this id guess with their first born because they have to learn. Its important not to compare haruko to daikichi because they are both at different stages in their parenting. As far as we have seen with haruko it seems her child lacks mannerism and discipline. While rin has gained them from her time with her father/mother and environment. I cant speak on the mothers behalf but the grandfather has lots of experience and probably poured all of it and more into raising rin with the little time he had.

Not to take anything away from this series' own identity, but another place I've seen the 'single father takes care of an (adopted) daughter' premise done very well is the Yotsuba& manga from Kiyohiko Azuma. Frankly, as far as cute and heartwarming goes, for me Yotsuba& is in its own league. Where I think this story will have to shine for me is in its more grounded social perspective and situation--where Rin is reviled by the rest of her family, and Daikichi is in a fairly demanding job as a salaryman. I will have to see where it goes, obviously, but heartwarming father-daughter interactions alone will not make this series stand out for me.

I love Yotsuba, it's one of my favorite series. But that is more of a comedy dealing with how a little girls sees things differently from adults.

This seems to be more of a realistic drama of how a single man will raise a young child. Already they are dealing with issues with how he is working long hours and she is stuck in day care until late at night (this is a real issue for single parents).

After picking this up, I'm really glad that I did decide to watch this. It is indeed heart-warming and something to smile about in the end of it all.

"It's sweat!" This just made me laugh out loud.

Oh, wow. The first episode didn't exactly resonate with me in the absolute best way, but episode 2 was great. Full of that fluffy stuff that gave me heart-warming feelings I haven't felt since watching Kobato and season 1 of Kimi ni Todoke. This show really is gonna be a gem. Sticking with this!

While most of you think how heartwarming this is, and it is, all I can think of is: "Man, parenthood is tough! Maybe Daikichi's family had a point after all." It might be worth it in the end if you have a child as endearing as Rin, but what if you don't? Upbringing is not the only factor in someone's personality. I've seen siblings who are calm and collected in one front and loud and abrasive in the other. Luck of the draw I suppose.
