Again, what's the difference? People have operated on others from things like tables, sand, and even on an abandoned house in a thunderstorm or a plane in turbulance. Compared to that, IS operation is minor.

Ichika's life support canonically went full power after his injuries with gospel, even though his I.S. wasn't materialized. Frankly, Gospel should also disappeared after it's defeat because it's after all, is in Second Shift.

What if it doesn't have a closed form? I was always under the impression that closed form was only used if the IS was to be carried around by its designated pilot.

Nope, canonically that's what happen in the novel. Natasha fell out of the sky after Gospel's energy hit 0 and disappear. Ichika unable to catch her (Probably his lack of technique and due to BS' extreme speed), but Rin is able to sync the speed and catch her gently.

We already saw VT System as example that this is possible, so, at least not Deus ex machine level. (BTW this happens with ByakuShiki in ST, but breaking the limiter always been Ichika's job so there's a lot of foreshadowing anyway :|)
