From the very beginning (I recently did the same even though I had already finished the ant arc).
Some things mentioned in the anime happen differently in the manga. Also the current hiatus is over and the new arc will start soon and now would be the best time to slowly start reading the manga to get all your facts straight. This will also make it easier to read the ant arc and what is yet to come (and possibly the new anime which might be more faithfull to the manga).
But yes that would take a while:P.

I don't think things are so different that you need to read from the beginning. If you do decide to read from the beginning and decide that it's nearly the same, the anime ends at around chap 180 of the manga. You might want to reread the last chapter of the GI arc though because its a bit different ending than the anime.

The story in the manga is more coherent and certain things are better explained like hisoka's abilities, Gon's mother and more small tidbits.

Personally I would recommend re-reading everything. The 2 aren't that different, but I think reading from the start would help and since it isn't exactly a mystery story, know what happens doesn't subtract too much from the enjoyment.

If you need to, I also suggest starting from the Greed Island arc. As mentioned, there are some differences there.

So looks like the start of a new arc. This is probably going to take like 20 years if the hiatus persist.

So we're finally at the next arc..... it took seven years, but we're finally here. Hell, that very fact even makes me forgive Togashi for making half this chapter just blank pages with minimal dialogue (though I still found the death scene touching enough).

But on to new business: Man, those new hunters on the last look badass. Even better is that half of them look like they came straight out of Jojo (that guy with his head shaved in a heart pattern looks the most Araki-esque of all, IMO). Also, I think it's pretty obvious that the televised speech of Netero announcing his retirement was a recording (or maybe even CGI). It'll definitely be interesting to see who'll take his place as president (though it'll probably take another decade before we even learn that ).....

the story turn absurd then end the arc in a fast way but the ending is a bit touching but with the hiatus and low build up. You can't feel much the emotion at all.

The black boxes represent the fact that Kogumi is blind and the King can't see anymore. It think it does well given the situation.

Excellent end to an excellent arc.

Yes, makes perfect sense, if you place it that way, but it was sure a convenient for the author though

Even though I hate the entire chimera and arc, I'll have to be honest... I really did like the ending.

Now if only the story could get back to Gon and his friends searching for his father, I'll be happy again. Heck, I'll even settle for Kurapika's quest to retrieve the eyes of his people, just give me something with the original cast being the central characters again.

Togashi, in some parts, tried to make the Chimera Arc some sort of narrative for the Chapter Black concept he made in YYH.

It was what essential both made and broke the arc, in my opinion. For both the heroes and the villains, there was a distinct good/evil yet at the same time, the whole arc was shaded with the grayness of humanity in both ants and humans.

At the same time, the convoluted way Togashi wanted to tell them through the very concept of ridiculously overpowered villains with awkward humanities made it quite tedious, even though I can see why he did it that way.

Isn't that Gin from the back in the bottom left of the group of hunters?

Super-brief spoiler, but what's revealed is a whopper:

Spoiler:

Boy, if Togashi didn't just cut straight to the chase with this new storyline......

what if the chimera ant queen was intentionally set to be washed ashore by someone and all of the previous arc was planned?
