It wasn't the best year of anime, but there were a few gems.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Ika Musume, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (although not as good as Index) and Cross Game were all great anime series.

And I missed my favorite anime girl Shana, so it was great seeing her in action again as well (Shakugan no Shana S).

Before I get started, I'll also share my thoughts on the potential changes/additions of categories and such. I think the "best setting" category is a pretty neat idea, but it's not a must-have category, I think, so it might leave the door open for cluttering the list with a lot of other potential categories. I already posted about the "anime originals" idea in the nomination thread, but in short: as the industry is now, there just aren't shows to fill this category. When there are, I'd be all for the idea, though. I'd also be more than willing to adhere to a stricter template to lessen the workload for those who have to do the manual counting.

I can't believe MM, Seitokai Yakuindomo, and B Gata H Kei all failed to make it into comedy this disappoints me greatly since I found all three to be vastly funnier than the comedies in the selection. Aside from that I thought was a good year for anime personally.

We have the counts over in the nomination thread. The comedy section was fiercely contested, except for the first spot which was pretty solid for Ika-Musume. But there were eight comedies that got double digit votes, and another ten that got over 5 votes.

That's more high vote getters than in the Best Anime Series category.

If I had just one recommendation for next year, perhaps it would be best to scrap the final vote and just have the nomination function as the vote ala write in candidates. The only reason I suggest this is that like last year I find my choices incredibly constrained by my lack of interest in the shows, styles and characters the community at large is regularly interested in and struggling to make up secondary or tertiary choices based on what is available, what I've actually seen, and what I feel like voting for in the categories in question. I don't mind not voting for categories I'm not really interested in to begin with like Romance and Slice of Life, but when I'm agonizing over the choices I have in categories I am interested in like sci-fi, fantasy, soundtrack, Movie, OVA etc. where the vote should come easy to me it kind of sucks a lot of the potential fun out of the whole endeavor.

Again just a suggestion.

Katanagatari was the big winner for me last year and well... guess it's pretty darn obvious w/ my vote.
